Parent of the Year - NOT

It's like a clown car traveling at 60 mph - what could go wrong?
  • A motorist who lost control and flipped a sport utility vehicle with 12 children inside on the Eisenhower Expressway Sunday afternoon will be cited with child endangerment and several seatbelt violations after the wreck sent all the kids to hospitals.

The crash happened about 1:15 p.m. on the outbound Ike near Kostner Avenue and left 14 people hospitalized, including nine children who were seriously hurt, three who were in fair condition and two adults.

Even a Hummer only sits what - eight? But this SUV had 15 people? You might think they were smuggling illegals.

Couldn't drive to any number of huge supermarkets stuffed with fresh meat and produce. They live in a "food desert," remember?

The Explorer has three seating rows, which are 55", 55", and 45".

Front seat: two adults, one child in the middle, one child in passenger's lap.

Second row: five children on seat, one in an older child's lap.

Third row: five children.

If the children are all 12 and under, and mostly 3 to 7, this is doable. Not a good idea, but not quite clown car packing.

I note BTW that the MSRP on the Explorer "Eddie Bauer" is $32,095. Yet this driver couldn't afford insurance?

Just A Civilian (who couldn't afford such a car when he was single and making $60K)
