Damn Cold Night

  • Meanwhile, outside, a blocks-long line -- filled with police and supported by firefighters -- waited in freezing temperatures to file through to pay their respects.

Some greeted each other. Many lamented about a shortage of manpower on the street and the frequency with which they find themselves at such scenes.

Final remembrances only in this thread. Dress for the weather today, boys and girls. Updates will be late, as you might imagine.

It was freezing cold waiting in the line at the wake but I was so proud and happy to see such a long line. I would have gladly waited if it were 10 blocks long. RIP Officer.

Would have waited a mile to get in. Great turn out by Chicago, CFD and all the other agencies. It always shows the respect. Many of the decent bosses waited in line along with us blue shirts. RIP Mike. May God watch over him and his family. Don't care how cold it is, will be out there today also. Being cold doesn't even begin to feel the pain his family is going through. The least anyone can do for this tragedy.

ABC is streaming the funeral services. The first thing I saw was weis in uniform and daley both going up to the family. No comment need be made about those two.

I can only imagine what that family is going through. And then to see weis in uniform and daley... ughhh.

Rest in peace valiant brother, comrade in arms. You family will be taken care of and you won't be forgotten.

This day was for the FLISK family to mourn the loss of their loved one. I "commend" the family for not allowing J-FLED nor DICKHEAD to speak on behalf of Police Officer Michael Flisk. His beautiful daughter did an outstanding job reflecting the family memories with the support of her three brothers. Father Nagle was clearly stunned when J-FRAUD was announced to speak and approached Fr.Nagle informing him he was not allowed to speak.

AND!!!!!! AND!!!!!!!!!!
J-FED was wearing (3) yes "THREE" ribbons on OUR uniform. He been here less than three years.........
F@@K it takes a P.O. who is granted and deserving of an award more than that to get a ribbon, and who knows how long before a ceremony for your achievement.

THANK YOU: FLISK FAMILY for your choice to only speak on your fathers life as you remembered him.

"He Answered The Call"

Today in the sun, I bid him farewell
A man, a hero, I never knew well

Like many before him, who answered the call
Wearing a badge, he was destined to fall

Though by choice a long life and a happy old age
Would he have chosen, had he written the page

But the office he chose never promised long life
Just half of his salary, for his child and his wife

He went without fear, into the darkness of night
Bringing comfort to some, to some others light

Easing their pain and calming their fears
He did his duty, never asking for cheers

A husband, a cop, he answered the call
We bid him farewell for he gave his all

Got a chance to watch the services this afternoon on CLTV. What a beautiful family Officer Flisk has. No wonder he always talked about his family.

It tore me up to have to watch his children deal with this senseless tragedy. But they held up better than I would have that's for sure.

To the Flisk family, I know I speak for many Chicagoans when I say I'm so sorry for your loss. There are many of us who appreciate what your father did as his life's work. We will always remain grateful. God bless.

Before conclusion of mass, celebrant, don't know his name, called upon Weis to speak. Weis walks up to him & they exchange conversation for a minute or two.
Weis turns & walks back to his seat, looking as small as he acts. Celebrant then says, Oh, we assumed Supt. would be speaking....but apparently Peg (daughter) will speak on behalf of the family.
Usually the details of who is doing what are worked out in advance by family & clergy. Had to wonder if this was done on purpose to slam Weis & Daley.
In any event, his daughter delivered an outstanding tribute

Let them who caused this sit among those of us who suffer and see what they have done. A good man was taken from us and they still, heartless as ever, wished to play their spin game and profit politically.

You were rightfully denied that opportunity by a family of the decent tragically affected by the savage barbarians you have enabled. Walk back with egg on your face to match the undeserved ribbons you wear on a uniform you disgrace.

I am heart sick by all of this but glad that you now see what you have done and can now know with perfect clarity how we see you when you disgrace us with you presence at such an awful time.

You have no place amongst those who have honor. Honor, duty, loyalty and brotherhood are not just words to us. They have a meaning you wretched scoundrels shall never know.

May God bless and keep us, peace keepers and protectors of the weak, and take our fallen into His arms.

That is what the city needs, a decent family man up from the ranks, no "phone calls" or political dynasties or interchangeable "managers," just an honest working copper who learned his trade on the streets and has earned the respect of others.

Boy, think about it and it gets to be a pretty long list, huh? (grin)

God bless all this day.

Oh -- Channel 7 showed Daley and Weis each saying a few words at the funeral.
