Davis Drops Out

  • A dramatic 2010 in Chicago politics ended with one last flourish Friday night as U.S. Rep. Danny Davis dropped out of the race to succeed Mayor Daley and threw his support behind Carol Moseley Braun.

“In unity there is strength. In strength there is success,” Davis said at his downtown campaign office, flanked by Braun and state Sen. James Meeks, two of his former opponents in the Feb. 22 election.

“I just want to unify behind the best candidate. Everyone I know thinks Carol is the best candidate.”

In this case, it must have been a decision who had the least amount of baggage. Braun can appeal to a wider base in Chicago who nostalgically remember her Senate run and don't remember her general incompetence in the position. She'll also blunt Clinton's campaigning for Rahm.

2011 is already shaping up as fun politically.

If Braun can get the majority of the African-American vote, she'll win. But watch for Rahmbo to thwart her plans by making deals with the reverends. The political reporters are going to be busy, but the rest of us are fucked.

I am so SICK of this racist bullshit. A 'consensus black candidate' should be insulting to members of the black community. It says that all black voters are capapble of recognizing is skin color - not the issues. And members of the black community, you should be ashamed and outraged. All that 'civil rights' talk and work over the past 50 years means nothin, apparently, since so many of you are happy simply to vote for the black face on the ballot. That's not progress, people - that's ignorance. And the media - you media types who read this site - shame on you all for your complete cowardice in not taking these people to task for this behavior.

There's no way she'll get my vote. She can't even manage her own finances -- she has five mortgages on her house. She also made questionable deals with a business man who's now in trouble for sexual and racial harassment of his employees. I hope more of her baggage comes out between now and the first day for early voting -- January 31, 2011.

Carol Moseley Braun will fix things right up when she is elected mayor.

That is why she has been sitting on the political sidelines for almost 14 years.

Some highlights of Moseley Braun's career:

Moseley Braun was the subject of a 1993 Federal Elections Commission investigation over $249,000 in unaccounted-for campaign funds

In 1996, Moseley Braun made a private trip to Nigeria, where she met with dictator Sani Abacha. Despite U.S. sanctions against that country, due to Abacha's actions, the Senator did not notify, nor register her trip with, the State Department. She subsequently defended Abacha's human rights records in Congress.

In 1998, after George Will wrote a column reviewing the allegations of corruption against her, Moseley Braun responded to Will's comments, saying that "I think because he couldn't say ni--er, (censored for our more sensitive SCC bloggers) he said corrupt," She also compared Will to a Ku Klux Klansman, saying "I mean this very sincerely from the bottom of my heart: He can take his hood and put it back on again, as far as I'm concerned." Later, Moseley Braun apologized for her remarks.

In an interview with Tim Russert in 2003 Russert reminded Moseley Braun of an interview she had with the Chicago Tribune editorial board after her senate defeat. “Carol Moseley- Braun appeared to write her own political obituary by declaring she would never run again for public office. ‘Read my lips... Not. Never. Nein. Nyet.’”

And then there are the old allegations of medicaid fraud concerning Moseley Braun's mother where Moseley Braun admitted "mistakes were made."

Yup, great mayor in the wings there. Lost of choice mayoral quotes just waiting to be recorded for our amusement.

Moseley Braun was also an Assistant States Attorney in Cook County from 1973 - 1977.

This is the "black consensus candidate?" Makes one wonder how bad incumbent US Senator Alan "Al the Pal" Dixon was to be defeated by her.

Prepare to crown Rahm the new emperor.

I still hope the prick gets knocked off the ballot for residency. Here's what RAHM has accomplished: winning in the 5th district with the help of Donald Tomczak, the corrupt Water Department boss who had his foot soldiers out working for him; and being anointed Chief of Staff by the Chosen One because he was an "enforcer" and pugnacious. Do we really want this guy to be our Mayor?

Ms. Braun's brother, Joe Mosley is a Det. Sgt with the Chicago Police Dept., and her dad was a Cook County Sheriff's Deputy. Ms. Braun herself is a former Asst. U.S. Attorney, Il. Senate Member and the first black woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate and ambassador to New Zealand under Slick Willie. So she is probably the most qualified, but because of her backing by Rev. Jackson, I and many others cannot support her. Jessie is Hate Pimp who lives by creating racial divides. He must have nothing to do with electing the next mayor.

It's so infuriating that there are two sets of rules when it comes to race and alleged racism. The media was all aghast with reports of alleged election day communications between the camps of Jane Byrne and Richie Daley in the early 1980's. Those two and Harold Washington were all running for mayor. Exit polls showed Washington was headed for a win by late afternoon and it was alleged that Byrne and Daley people saw the results and struck a deal. Daley's foot soldiers were told to tell people at polling places to vote for Byrne to avoid having Washington elected. The two powerful white politicians conspired to fuck over a black guy. The facts were that Washington won, Byrne and Daley denied such a deal, and Byrne and Daley hated each other so much they would have rather seen Washington win then the other. That was a racist plot per the media. A plot that was not a success, was denied, and made no logical sense. Since this mayoral race started, black reverends and leaders have admitted to wanting to find a "consensus black candidate". They are openly admitting that race is the number one factor in backing a candidate. That's so racist! No media outrage. No tearful public apologies. No sensitivity classes required. Can you imagine if Tom Dart had dropped out after a meeting with the only other white candidate in the field and then told the media how it was "best for us".

African community this needs to STOP! If a African American represent ALL AMERICANS as their President then a Hispanic or White can be the Mayor of Chicago and represent all Chicagoans and that goes for Cook County President also, STOP PLAYING THE RACE GAMES ALREADY ITS 2011 already!!!!!!! I thought MB was a good candidate for mayor not for her skin color, but she wasnt part of the daley machine. CMB has stated that she wants to represent all Chicagoans. Danny Davis, not CMB made the remarks about Clinton.

Her chances just improved exponentially with Davis dropping out.
***********************************

Not true. According to WBEZ 91.5 and I quote "Another candidate for Chicago mayor is telling a former president to stay out of the campaign.

Former Illinois U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun is the latest candidate with harsh words for former President Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton is expected to campaign for Rahm Emanuel, much to the chagrin of Moseley Braun."

I don't make this shit up. I know many would like to pretend she isn't all about her own, but she is.

Some more idiocy that is being programmed by the man behind the curtain, in this case the political dummies (Sharpton, Jackson), thinking they are going to position themselves into power behind the "best" black candidate.
Davis put his dick in his mouth when he demanded Clinton stay out of Chicago and don't rally for Rahm. (old black men can be the worst racists, they are parallel to all those Archie Bunkers out there)
CMB has too many skeletons that already flew out of her closet and now more will be exposed by the ever-conniving RE. Brace yourself Chicago for some more hilarious (yet pathetic) politics. Too bad the dummycrats can't come up with at least ONE DECENT nominee.

It's time to get the clout out of office.

Everyone likes the clout when you can be on the beneficial side of it, receiving the unfair favors and benefits. You'll hear an awful lot of "we're on you side" b.s. during the campaign..and what usually happens after? Yeah think about it..get these career politicians and the family royalty out of office.

What would happen if the "white" candidates all said publicly, "we need to unite the "white" vote and rally around only one "white" candidate to get he or she elected? First, it would never happen because they would be called racist. Second, every news station across the country would run the story all day and have every store front Rev. on TV calling them racist. It's funny and sad to see the black candidates led by the fake Rev. jesse jackass so driven by race. The racist double standard will always exist.

Millionaire lawyer Al Hofeld was also in that race. Hofeld spent an immense amount on attack ads hitting Dixon and ignored Moseley-Braun. He dragged Dixon down to 35% and pulled 27% himself.

Meanwhile, Moseley-Braun corralled the black vote, the feminist vote, and the reform-liberal vote (being a Hyde Park googoo); she got 38%.

Anyone remember when Carol Mostly-Gone was our Senator? Disappeared right after the election and resurfaced as the guest of a dictator in Africa. Embarrassed the liberal gals on the gold coast and in the wealthy north-shore communities that helped get her elected. She talks a good line, but is really pretty dumb when you get right down to it. Proof? Clinton made her an ambassador to get her the hell out of the country so she wouldn't say anything else stupid. And, how much money did she give that boy friend of hers, forgot his name. Ksogie? She will run this city into the ground, what's left of it.

I think the black camp is still banking on Rahm losing in the appellate court on his residency issue. Just a month ago CMB had the lowest percentage of voters among the big names at only 6%. She may get the majority of the black vote, but she will not get the liberal lakefront vote, nor the non-black city worker vote, nor the hispanic vote, nor the middle class white vote. If Rahm does not get the 50.1% needed during the primary, which he probably won't, the three way runoff will be between Rahm, Chico and CMB. The non-black vote will back the horse that they think will win in order to not get CMB in the runoff. My early prediction: Rahm 38%, CMB 30%, Chico 23% in the primary, the rest going to DelValle and the other also rans. The runoff: Rahm 58%, CMB 32% Chico 10%. Just a prediction, not a guarantee, anything can happen.

7:19 is right.

They want to avoid a run-off with Chico.

Davis dropping out is just as shocking as Alderman Pat Levar endorsing a 35 year old Hispanic woman/union official for the United Foods Worker's for Alderman of the 45th Ward.

If women turn out heavily, no telling what may happen. Carol and Marina....works for me.

I never figured that the elected officials from the 45th Ward were so progressive.

To the person trying to bring down Joe M or call him a hack. I would ask you say it to his face. He has been proven on this job long enough. So please keep your baseless comments out of here. On the other hand as I said DON'T BE A COWARD and say it to his face.

The top two get into the runoff, not the top three. Rahm will make the runoff, provided he doesn't get knocked off the ballot. The question is will Chico or Mosely Braun end up in second place?

If Rahm gets knocked off the ballot, CMB and Chico would likely be in the runoff together.

CMB had no qualms about slapping Steinberg upside the head. I doubt that this independent African American woman is afraid of the Rahmsicle. She didn't ask for permission when she took on Al Dixon, and she's not a token "lady" type the local democratic bosses seem to favor.

Even if she doesn't win....it's going to be a lot of fun.

No way is Rahm better than CMB. Anyone who thinks Rahm likes the police doesn't know Rahm. Vote for anyone but Rahm. If you thought Daley screwed the police over, you haven't seen anything yet.

Carol implied Al doesn't understand sexual harassment (i.e. Clarence Thomas sexually harassing Anita Hill).

Carol forget that important lesson, when her then boyfriend Kgosi Matthews sexually harassed women in her office.

Who's coming to town to campaign for Rahm? Bill Clinton who never had to face the wrath of women voters after his multiple bimbo eruptions in the White House. All the dirt oozed out after his re-election in 96. Ask Al Gore what he thought of the bimbo episodes with Clinton......it cost him the presidency in 2000.

For someone who forgot Carols boyfriends name you did a good job of spelling it. But then it is a very common name. Is this the best job Rahm would give you? You must suck.
