Hot Pursuit

  • A man is facing a slew of charges Thursday after allegedly attempting to rob a Wicker Park home, then taking off with a police officer in the back of his getaway car.

Police responded at 2 p.m. Wednesday to a call of a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of North Winchester, Shakespeare District police Capt. Marc Buslik said.

Two men allegedly attempted to burglarize a home but fled down a gangway and into an alley toward their still-running car when the homeowner gave chase, Buslik said. Police officers found at least one of the suspects, identified as Timothy Davenport, 23, in the alley, Buslik said. He was Tasered after he allegedly punched an officer, the captain said.

Davenport allegedly continued to resist police and drove away as police tried to remove him from the car, Buslik said. One officer was thrown from the moving car while a second officer became locked in the backseat.

No officers seriously hurt at last report. But fleeing with an officer in the back seat? How the heck are you going to get away from him? "Oh man, this guy is still following me. I can't shake him!!"

Wow, now that is some crazy shit. I've heard some weird things in my day, but fleeing with a p.o. in the back seat? Wow.
What do you do if you're the p.o.?
Start punching him while he's driving? Shoot him? I mean, that's a wild situation. You don't want him to crash if you're going at a good clip either b/c you're in there.
Weird, wild, stuff!!!
(how did they get him to stop?)

Was the back seat officer ordered to terminate the pursuit?

I am so confused. How did the officer end up in the back seat?

Why didn't he just pull his weapon and stop the offender?

Well kidnapping IS a forcible felony. But then again this is Crook County so you can't really count on anything going your way or you getting the benefit of the doubt.

hey -1/21/2011 12:13:00 AM,

all you have to do is like the movies, buckle in real good and wait till the car reaches a high rate of speed and shoot that motherfu!@$%! and after the car is done crashing and rolling you unbuckle yourself and quickly get out of the rolled over car that is spewing gasoline and as your walking away light a cigarette and toss it behind your back to ignite an explosion of that vehicle. Or you can do like the movies and roll out of the car into traffic using the tactical spring and roll they teach us.
Seriously though you do whatever you have to do to get home safe.

Toss on your seatbelt and shoot the offender in the back of the head.Pursuit ended..You would be justified within the use of force..

Glad everyone is okay. This guy and his brother went to prison for a string of burglaries and weapons charges. Detectives were able to clear up more than 50 cases involving these guys. That was in 2008. He did about a year and then he was back to his career. Wonderful. Maybe this time he'll spend 2 years behind bars so he can be out before he's 30 and still young enough to commit some serious crime.

No glory boy.

Because they could have been KILLED doing something stupid.

You NEVER stick any part of your body inside of a car that is still running when a shithead could take off. You should have learned that in your 2nd week in the academy.

Just keep staring at yourself in the mirror as you straighten your department commendations kid.

According to the NY Times article, members of Congress are preparing legislation to allow states to declare bankruptcy and restructure debt, to include public pensions. Ciites have that ability now. Something is coming down the pike and within the next 2-3 years. If you really think and are going to rely on a state consitution to protect your pension, to include the retired members, then yuou might just be disappointed. It seems that some governments are preparing to take this matter to court. And, it seems we will get no sympathy from the general public, most of whom just do not want to shore up the funds with higher taxes. New Jersey is asking for 9% cuts in retirees pensions and substantial increases in contributions for those still working with a raised retirement age. Scary times.
