Mysterious Mailing
A tag team of mayoral candidates blasted Rahm Emanuel on Thursday for sending to Chicago households a letter tailor-made to reassure city employees that he will not seek to reduce their pensions.
City workers have questioned how Emanuel got their home addresses. But Emanuel spokesman Ben LaBolt said the letter — in a blank white envelope with no return address and a postage stamp — was sent to “households across the city.”
The mayor told reporters, “I don’t know anything about it.” But Braun stood her ground, calling it a “throwback to the bad old days” in Chicago.
“This is voter intimidation and intimidation of city workers,” she said.
“A personal letter … was sent to the homes of city employees, essentially telling them that ‘We know who you are, and we know how to reach out to you and we want to talk to you about your benefits.’ Well, the point is that’s illegal.”
She offered no proof of the illegality.

OT but can someone have a certain midnight sgt in 008 shipped to another planet so we don't have to listen to his droning annoying voice anymore? I mean when he isn't sitting in the station telling everyone what a superstar he is, annoying the watch commander, the desk crew, the po's, the cleaning crew, the cock roaches, as well as the prisoners and citizens that come into the place, we all know he's out there somewhere sleeping. If you are so good why is it that you aren't in charge of the department? Why is it that you are still in 008 on midnights? No more phone calls? Please bid far far far away.

The letter was received in my household. The letter, however was addressed to my wife, who is NOT a city employee.
Just remember, a vote for Chico is a vote to continue Sanctuary City laws. Not that Rahm won't do it either but Chico thinks Gutierrez is a hero and that makes me sick.
These were probably taken from Voter REgistration Lists which are public and culling out certain zip codes with a high percentage of city workers. More people got them than city workers,
I would recommend to the union to look over the statute for "Compelling Organization", it is in the ILCS and is a felony. The law was created decades ago, here in Chicago to disrupt the compelling of Union membership. Its often used to charge Gang members... It may be worth a look.

In Aurora, the we don't get along with our mayor. (he just laid off 8 officers among other things) During his first campaign, he mailed letters to homes of all the police officers living in the city (thankfully we don't have residency but I was living in the city at that time). This pisted me off so I looked into it. It turns out that it was legal as his campagin filed a FOIA request to get the names of all the Aurora Police Officers and then filed a FOIA request for the names and addresses of all the registered voters. They then crossreferenced the lists and sent out the letter. It sucks that all this stuff is just there for anybody to look at.

Every exempt member of the department gets, or did at one time, an alphbetical printout of every member of the department, sworn and civilian, with date of hire, home address and telephone number, pay grade, sex and race and unit of assignment. this is probably true for other departments in the city as well. Not hard to have someone give you a copy.

If I as a suburbanite have to pay a city income tax - I want to have a vote for who becomes mayor.

The city gets enough in taxes every time a commuter has to go buy a breakfast or lunch. Parking rates are another deterrent for conducting business in Chicago.

I understand that you are getting taxed to the gill, but I do believe taxing people who come from the suburbs to work in the city is fair game.
There are many reasons why I feel this way.
1. The highway is always packed because of so many suburban commuters refuse to take the train because they are all to important to take the train.
2. The suburbanites come in to the city take the jobs away from people who live in the city.
3. The suburbanites clutter the downtown streets with their vehicles which cause traffic congestion.
4. The traffic congestion costs city dwellers money in the form of police service and TMA's.
5. If the police and fire and all other city workers have to live in the city, why shouldn't someone who works in the city have to pay a tax. The suburbanites are getting city services and not paying their fair share.
6. This will sound a bit on the racist side, but the main reason suburbanites should pay a work tax is because of all of the suburbanites who chose to flee the city and let the neighborhoods crumble. If the city is good enough to work in, it should be good enough to live in.

I'm pretty sure that political calls are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry.
There's a special place in HELL for chicago politicians.
