$50 Grand per Speech?
For a politician who was once viewed as inarticulate — and even took public speaking lessons to overcome that reputation — Mayor Daley sure has come a long way.
The retiring mayor has signed on with a New York speakers bureau and lecture agency to make a living delivering speeches — in exchange for a fee in the $50,000-an-engagement range.
The Harry Walker Agency has a blue-chip roster of clients that includes former President Bill Clinton, former Vice-Presidents Dick Cheney and Al Gore, former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and rock star/philanthropist Bono.
Has anyone from the Harry Walker Agency actually seen Shortshanks deliver a speech? It's painful. Choppy monotone, little-to-no-audience connection, constant mangling of the King's English.
And then there's the question of what he's going to speak about?

Just compared pay checks: on 16 Jan 2011 I cleared $31.38 more than my 2010 paycheck (that's the 2% raise kicking in), on 16 Feb 2011 I cleared $63.80 LESS than the 16 Jan 2011 paycheck. Sooooo....after our pay raise and Pat Quinn's tax increase I am -$32.42 per paycheck.

She is busy suing Jon Burge for his $36,000 annual pension but not Shortshank's three pensions earned during his life of crime as an elected official.
Burge goes to jail while the prosecutor then (Daley) never sees the inside of a courtroom and never has to answer so much as one question related to the complicity of the Cook County States Attorney's office as headed by one Richard M Daley.

I just got my first real check of the year with my new raise. Being a responsible person, I deferred 60% of my raise into deferred comp and took the rest. But the increase in my federal tax rate ate up the raise plus a little more. Today I got my first straight check without clothing allowance, etc. It's $75 less than the check I got 1 December.
So everyone lies, President Obama lies when he says he won't tax the middle class because my federal withholding is higher, Governor Quinn lies when he says he'll re-do government when he actually just raised our taxes. All the local government bloodsuckers lie by raising my real estate taxes even though my property has decreased in value. And the biggest lie of all, we (police/fire) are being unreasonable with our pensions, when we pay a higher percentage of our income towards it, and have no "sweeteners" like local politicians and such who cash in their overtime, sick time, vacation time to boost it.

Some Watchdog: A Follow Up
Way back on January 27, 2011 I questioned why our Pension Board Trustee Mike Shields was nowhere to be found in Springfield when the most important piece of pension legislation in my career was being discussed and put into law.
Seems as though I was not the only person who wanted an answer. Mike was addressing a roll call at Midway Airport when a member asked about his whereabouts. Rather than answer the question, he deferred to one of his running mates, Saul Del Rivero. According to Saul, Mike does not get along with President Donahue so what would be the point of Mike being there?
When I first heard this I thought that maybe this was just Saul trying to deflect the question for Mike. Then I realized that this was probably the truth. It is the same pattern that Mike has exhibited for years, even throughout this election. Mike talks a good game, but if you really think about it, it is never a face to face confrontation. It is always through a video or media outlet. There is never anyone to fire back at Mike. Anytime that anyone has challenged Mike during this election campaign, his response has been to retreat.
What is even more amazing is the fact that Mike's absence from Springfield was not merely an oversight. It was a conscious decision on his part to absent himself from legislation that guarantees the funding of our pension. God help us all if this guy somehow becomes our President

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley will speak at Wheaton College next month and participate in a fundraiser for the school’s J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy.
Free and open to the public, the speech is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 3 in the Barrows Auditorium in the east wing of the Billy Graham Center at 500 College Ave.
The Hastert Center also will sponsor a fundraising dinner with Daley in support of its programs. The dinner will be at 5:15 p.m. in the South Party Room of the Todd M. Beamer Student Center at 421 Chase St.
Daley will speak briefly at the event.
Tickets are $100 a person or $150 a couple. For more information, call (630) 752-5975.

What made you think that? If you were paying attention, which you weren't, you'd know that the income tax increase is retroactive to Jan 1, 2011.
But he will only be hired to give speeches every April 1st?

Off topic...just saw a commercial for Susana Mendoza for city clerk. In the ad they say she has a plan for hiring more police officers. help me out here. Doesn't the City council approve the budget and the finance committee approve any new hires. What the fuck does the city clerk have to do with any of this. Also, I'd love to see her try and reduce the price of the city sticker....like that's ever going to happen.

Plenty of scars up here as well. When Gainer was Corporation Counsel for Chicago, he was instrumental in producing the city's Draconian gun registration ordinances; "one slip, one late form and the gun becomes permanently unregisterable and subject to confiscation." I think he then moved to a high police post in Washington, D.C., probably to work on the same kind of thing.
Don't know what he does today -- cleaning septic tanks? It'd suit him.
