Daley's Pension

  • When Mayor Daley leaves office in a couple of weeks, no one will be throwing any tag days for him. WBBM Newsradio 780 has learned the mayor will be receiving government pensions totaling nearly $200,000 a year.

Mayor Daley has already notified the Municipal and General Assembly Retirement Systems he wants to begin collecting his pension on May 17, the day after he leaves office.

When he does, he will be collecting a pension of nearly $184,000 a year. Of that, 64 percent will come from the state pension system and 36 percent will come from the city pension system.

[...] Daley has not been in the state legislature since 1980.

And, because Daley has about 40 years of government service, he’s eligible to receive the maximum of 85 percent of that mayor’s salary.

When Daley left the state legislature in November 1980, his salary was $53,000 a year. Blair says the state portion of Daley’s pension will come to more than $117,000 a year. More than $66,000 a year will come from the city pension system.
Go figure that one out. And not in the article, but heard on the live broadcast by WBBM, the pension fund Daley is drawing from has liabilities that are four times the current assets of the fund.

But the evil police and fire fighters who spend 20, 30 even 40 years damaging their bodies and sacrificing personal time with their families, might top out at $60,000 a year to live out their already statistically shortened life spans.

Once again you hit the nail on the head. Shortened lives of police officers and damaged bodies and minds. This is rarely talked about and St Judes is not only about those who died but of those who will never walk, talk or think correctly again because they answered the call. Da Mayo always considered the police as a good photo oportunity he never cared or he would have given one Sunday a year to honor those who made the the ultimate sacrafice. I think Rahm will know better....

This is what's wrong with America. What a twisted sad joke! The lowley police officer risks his life every day and gets ripped by the politicians and media for collecting an average pension that we put over 9% into every two weeks. But Daley can collect big bucks and no one gives a shit. Question....How much side money is he getting for favors? Fuck Shitcago!!!!

STATE SUPREME COURT RULES BACKSEAT ARMREST IS A “CASE”
People v. Holmes, Ill. Supreme Court, Docket # 109130, Opinion filed 4/7/11. The defendant owner/driver of a motor vehicle, an Indiana resident who had been issued a carry license by his home state, was stopped by Chicago police officers for a traffic violation. Pursuant to a search, a 9 mm handgun was recovered from a backseat armrest of the car. The Court noted that “[t]he armrest separated the two back seats and contained a storage compartment that closed with a latch. The compartment could be folded up into the seat or left in a down position. At the time the gun was recovered, the compartment was closed and latched.” Testimony conflicted as to whether the armrest was folded up (defendant’s testimony) or in the down position (officer’s testimony).

The defendant was charged in count I with aggravated UUW, alleging he carried an “uncased, loaded and immediately accessible” firearm, violating 720 ILCS 5/24—1.6(a) (1)(3)(A), a felony. The second felony count alleged defendant carried in his vehicle a firearm “at a time when he was not on his own land or in his own abode or fixed place of business” and “had not been issued a currently valid FOID card in violation of 720 ILCS 5/24—1.6(a)(1)(3)(C). ...

Of course he never gave a rat's ass about the Chicago pension system except to rob it. He was never a member of it. The same will be true of Rahm, who said he will not collect a "city pension". It will be just an add-on to his Congressional retirement.

This is exactly why pensions are such a mess. As we know the Political Hacks collect hefty pensions in excess of 100,000 and 200,000 while we get 60,000 max if were lucky. If they really wanted to fix the problem they could simply set the Maximum pension at 75,000, no matter who you are or what your salary was. If these people made working salaries of 150,000 or more and couldn't put aside some to supplement their retirement income then there is a problem. That said then where is the logic that you and I, who make not nearly close to that, are getting such a great deal. We pay 9% and we pay for health care benefits that continue to diminish. Comp Dent is an absolute joke, prescriptions cost are soaring. If any of you remember when we had Bankers Casualty Insurance we have taken a nose-dive with respect to those days. They attempt to deflect criticism away from themselves by attacking us, we are the public enemy and people love to hate the police. Political Strategy that works when you own the media lock stock and barrel.

Has anyone heard those radio commercials regarding public pensions?
Some woman is complaining that 95% of the tax paying public is paying for the "sweet deal" retirements of the other 5% a.k.a. public employees.
This is a terribly slanted and inaccurate radio commercial. In it she encourages everyone to visit illinoisisbroke.com. The radio spot is clearly designed to turn them against us and not let accurate facts get in the way.

Most politicians get into politics for money and power, few for the people,Government is for the people, but while Daley complains about the budget and it shortfalls ,he has made well sure that he has more than enough to get by and still power and influence not to mention giving speeches, money power,ego...all wrapped up into politics here in this great shitty of ours! I take care of me first then you,or maybe not you just me...that's the society we live in now....it's all about me,my money,my power,my brains,my gun,my clothes,my friends,my family, my summer home,my pension...so down the toilet we go!

Just think of all the democrat organizations that will not be able to have Daley as a speaker the coming years because at $50,000 a speech he will be allowed only one since he would be considered the filthy rich if he makes over $250,000 a year. And we couldn't possibly think cute little richie is the filthy rich, we already know he is filthy in other ways.

Not a cop. I do not understand why some politician cannot propose amendment change for the pension plan. This is sickening that a politician who does not put his life on the line, lies to get elected time and time again, can walk away with a six figure pension, free health care and police detail. Sorry the earlier comments are correct. If you are bringing home 150k, take home care, expense account and cannot save something or even put that into the average 401k that is a problem.

What about his pension for being Cook County States Attorney? How much for that? And how much for the many boards he will sit on after retirement.

That is, if Daley has time while he takes that remedial English language for dummies course he has been meaning to take.

It's not just Richie DALEY....

Did any of you see Friday's Sun Times?
The paper contained an article documenting the 27 HIGHEST paid retirees on the state payroll. Of the 10 the ST documented, former govs. Jim EDGAR and Jim THOMPSON, along with Dawn Clark NETSCH and Roland BURRIS were listed.
The top 10 retirees were paid in excess of
$1.4 MILLION DOLLARS for ONE YEAR!
This article also explains that they are entitled to 85% of their last year's salary.
So...explain this to me: How can someone making less than $100,000 a year have a pension in excess of $130,000/year?
And they're complaining about police/fire penions?
What a crock this is!

I just read the Sun-Times article about Vanecko. 603 230 against 505 145 Self Defense my a**. You can bet if Vanecko was 505 145 and died, Koschman would have been charged and found guilty. This one should have gone to court for a judge or jury to decide. The bac of the victim means nothing as he was not driving. I am sure Vanecko had the same or higher bac. Typical spoiled little brat who always got out of everything. The CCSAO should be ashamed of themselves for this one.
