Honor Guard Event

Police Memorial events begin shortly and this is one of the more moving ones:
  • In remembrance and appreciation of the ultimate sacrifice made by the Chicago Police Officers whose names are etched in the granite, the Chicago Police Honor Guard will post a guard at the Gold Star Families Memorial Park for a period of 24 hours on 02 May 2011. Officers and their families are encouraged to visit the memorial during this time to render honors to our fallen brothers and sisters.
St. Jude's is this Sunday and we expect a massive turnout due to last year's losses. God bless the fallen.

"...we expect a massive turnout due to last year's losses."

Our losses will likely be meaningless soon:

When an arbitrator ruled this month that Detroit could reduce the pensions being earned by its police sergeants and lieutenants, it put the struggling city at the forefront of a growing national debate over whether the pensions of current public workers can or should be reduced.

Conventional wisdom and the laws and constitutions of many states have long held that the pensions being earned by current government workers are untouchable. But as the fiscal crisis has lingered, officials in strapped states from California to Illinois have begun to take a second look, to see whether there might be loopholes allowing them to cut the pension benefits of current employees.

Every district on 1st & 3rd watches should send 'at least one' car during their tour for an honorary 'drive-by' of our memorial.
A slow and silent pass in revue with the 'blue' illuminated throughout the night will be a solemn show of support to 'Honor Our Fallen."
Thanks to our Honor Guard for this 24 hour vigil/march in front of the (waterfall) memorial.
Stop by to view this tribute and CPD Honor Guard 'Changing of the Guard' on behalf those that made the 'Ultimate Sacrifice.'

Thanks SCC for making this tribute a separate post on your site.

Please turn out for our deceased brother and sisters, no matter what the weather.

Most of us will be going to a brunch afterward, usually given by our District Commanders or a local restaurant. No what or where or who is paying for it, please don't be a cheap ( ), leave a couple of bucks for the wait staff.

I guess for the first time in the last 2 years, I will actually attend St. Jude and walk proudly!
I couldn't find it in me to attend the last two years.
No way was I going to walk past that command stand and salute the largest collection of ball warmers for
J-Fled & 3M that I could imagine. Now that Hillard has sent at least two of the carpetbaggers packing (Roman & 3M) and Weis has been sent on his merry way, I am
definitely going!

Just one question about the Memorial on Northerly Island...

Why the Hell would they pick an Area for a Memorial that is Routinely Filled with Drunk and Disorderly jaggoffs?

I am sure any of the officers who died in the line of duty this past year would not mind giving up all of their pension to be alive today. St. Jude is not about money, politics or any other BS, it is about police brotherhood. We are a unique fraternity, honor it, stand tall and be there for them and their families. We want the public to respect us and we can't respect our own. This is not the place to worry about pension cuts. Our losses last year were monumental, how much money would bring back any of those officers? A copper can always make legal money, if he is alive. Remember, there but by the grace of God.....

Did anyone see the Cinco De Mayo order? Their parade starts before St Jude is over. As usual CPD provides security, that means many will not be able to attend St Jude.

Let's not have the usual whining or political statements about why we shouldn't go. This is about our brothers and sisters who were TAKEN from us! Their families deserve to see us in force, so they know that we will NEVER forget!

I am extremely embarrased to ask this, but I just retired. I will be there. But can we march at the end of the line or somewhere? Thank you.

Everyone should show up as support for not only the fallen brothers, but as support for the families. There should be no excuses. Let's band together and show the true meaning of togetherness, our sisters and brothers in blue!
