Um, Info Please?

  • North Side detectives are warning businesses in the city’s Near North Police District about burglaries that resulted in many “expensive items” being stolen from three high-end retailers in the last two weeks.

However, while police are asking for the public's help in the investigations, police would not release locations, exact dates or times of the burglaries.
Evidently, the detectives wanted to release the locations, dates and times, but they were all afraid to access the reports that had the information available to them. The newest policy seems to be the following:
  1. respond to crime;
  2. write a report;
  3. send report to supervisor for signature (electronic or paper);
  4. bury the report in the decorative shrubbery around the Area Centers in the hopes that someone spontaneously confesses on video and the State's Attorney can then deny charges in a few years.
The Department is getting as bad as the media in not broadcasting the descriptions of criminals terrorizing city businesses and citizens.

This sounds like something Sgt. Froggy in Area One RBT would do.

MO:
Wait until you're ready to leave, send off a vague news alert with no RD#'s, contact News Affairs and then tell them if they have any questions contact the oncoming watch because he's leaving.

Ten minutes after he's gone News Affairs calls and wants to know who's going to do the interview with Channel X because their at the District 2 desk waiting.

Thanks Frog, you goof. You'll get the LT promotion soon enough.

Wellll. Don't you see?

If you file crime reports into an electronic circular bin of sorts that no-one is allowed to access and if they do are reprimanded -- than it becomes so easy to report that crime is down.

All is lost. All is lost. A broken machine are we. We have been thought by are master to hate one another. We are quicker to give someone eles a break. A police officer is held to a higher standard then a superior being. I feel like I have been beaten down by the establishment called supervisors. They have so many who are promoted way beyond there means. I feel up beat but look the other way while off-duty and try to give the best service on my jobs and that's it. After 14 years I don't care anymore about this city or crime. This has become like a Vet-Nam. I wish we could just pull out and go home. I will not stick my neck out for anyone.

For god sake, whatever anyone does, do NOT access those police reports on the department's computer system!

You might get disciplined for looking at super secret crime reports and you might commit the most unpardonable sin of letting the public know the truth!

The public can't handle the truth!

You wouldn't want people to know how out of control the situation really is downtown with gangs of roving black youth terrorizing businesses and pedestrians almost daily.

What do you think we have here, a transparent democracy! Hell no! We have a Daley ruled government!

We won't be having any truth spreading, no no, that will not do.

Back in about 1981 or so, there were a series of overnight window crash burglaries along Michigan Avenue... high end jewelry and electronics stores. After about the third or fourth highly publicized incident, the Greater Michigan Avenue Retailers Association called the Mayor's office to complain. Twenty four hours later, there was a new midnight Tac team in 018 called the Michigan Avenue Detail.

The burglars were caught and Michigan Avenue WAS NOT the place for any shithead to be since the only purpose of the Detail was to protect Michigan Avenue. They were locking up anything on the street that moved and as those smash and grabs were isolated incidents, soon the team was allowed to expand their turf to the west to Clark Street. Eventually they went anywhere that an arrest could be found. That team was very productive and with the nightlife in the Rush Street area etc. there was always criminal activity to chase down.

Amazing what can be done when you have enough manpower around to do them.

The liberals of our society make it quite clear with every move. They do not want any of us to do what has been traditionally known as police work. They desire no societal law enforcement or lawful punishment for unlawful acts. They want us to merely be an inanimate barrier or wall between them and bad people, but they do not understand that the savage or hoard will not be merely contained. The savage has a thirst for new victims and a mere wall will never be high enough to defeat them.

Northwestern University police issued a crime alert Sunday night warning students of an attempted robbery near the school's downtown campus.

About 8:40 p.m. Sunday, a female student was walking on the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue when a teenage boy approached her while she was waiting to cross the street near the fieldhouse of Lake Shore Park.

He pushed her backward and demanded money and her cell phone. A second teen, who had been walking ahead of her, stopped, turned around and stood in front of her, police said. Soon after, two joggers approached and both of the suspects fled.

One of the suspects was described as a white male, about 16 to 17 years old with a thin build and a buzz-cut hair style. Police said he was about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark sweatshirt.

The second suspect was described as a black male, between 16 to 17, with a buzz-cut hairstyle. Police said he had a husky build and was about 190 to 200 pounds. He also was wearing blue jeans and a dark sweatshirt.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Northwestern University Police at 312-503-3256.

There are some aldercreatures that do not want crime statistics and crime locations to be discussed when it comes to their wards. It can hurt business and rentals. The same goes for ma ny suburbs. The mayors just donot want these things talked about. Go into some of these suburban police stations and ask them for crime statistics and locations of crime for their town and they will tell you "No", file a freedom of information request and then you will wait a long time.

Since the department has gone into stealth mode on crime info and prefers to busy itself with internal nonsense, there is a need for a repository of crime information that can be viewed by PO's without penalty and keep the citizenry informed. SCC is clearly that forum. Post criminal happenings in the tourist area and the home front and embarrass the department into action.

Mayor Daley Invites Chicagoans to Final Open House Before Leaving Office

Rachel Krech – Sat Apr 23, 12:06 pm ET

"Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley is currently the city's longest serving mayor. However, after 22 years and six inaugurations, Daley is stepping down on May 16 to make way for mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel, who won the mayoral election on Feb. 22. But before Mayor Daley leaves office he is holding one more event as a way to thank Chicagoans.

"From 1 to 4 p.m., Chicago residents can head to Chicago City Hall at 121 N. LaSalle Street to attend Daley's final open house. Daley will personally welcome visitors, just like he has at each open house he has held after his inaugurations in the past. This time, Daley will be thanking and saying goodbye to Chicagoans."

A reader comments --

"Excellent writing Rachel, I mean really. For those of you that want to know the date, it's May 9th. Proofread much?"

*

By the way, this will also be one of the city's last turn-ins, a town clean-up of the dangerous obstructions left by the Daley adinistration. Bring in a rubber speed bump from your alley, or at least six feet of useless black metal fencing, and you'll receive a high-quality, carefully inspected city-confiscated firearm in return.

Despite the fact that this is where the tourists and "190 North" crowd hang out, they are left stunningly unprotected, at the mercy of any 70 wilding teenagers who can hop a CTA turnstile and head for the Loop. There have even been thefts of patient's and staff's belongings inside Northwestern Memorial.

We are seeing mob violence. We need K-9s down there, and shotguns, and buses ready for mass arrests. We will not get them.

Wait until some Dowager Empress gets hammered to death in her Astor Street condo. Daley will be safely gone by then, relaxing in soft clothes over on his private beach in Michigan, running Obama's re-election campaign on the phone.

Oh look -- it's another residency issue... sort of..

How corporations beat Chicago Taxes.

--clip via capitolfax.com--

...

Some big Chicago-area retailers have found a way to avoid paying high local sales taxes on their wholesale purchases. They’ve essentially set up their own “tax havens” in downstate counties that have no local sales taxes. The havens mostly are just one-person offices with a fax machine.

The retailers contract to purchase mass quantities of fuel or construction equipment or lumber or whatever, and then those contracts are faxed to their little downstate offices, stamped as received and then faxed back to headquarters and — voilà — no local sales taxes are owed.

In January, the Illinois Department of Revenue lost a court case filed by Hartney Fuel Oil Co., Putnam County and the town of Mark, Ill. (population 500).

Hartney is based in Cook County but had a “sales office” in no-tax Mark. The Department of Revenue claimed that Hartney owed sales taxes in Cook County, but a Putnam County judge disagreed.

Nobody really noticed. But then some folks got the bright idea of introducing a bill at the Statehouse to codify the downstate court case to make certain that all Chicago-area companies had the same option.

Bad move.... ?

Read more >> http://capitolfax.com/2011/04/25/tax-haven-plan-may-backfire-badly/

Well what's so bad about the move.

If you nail the businesses they will just move out that's all.

Meanwhile what happened to we are all in this together krap?

The politicians create an illusion that taxes have been raised for everyone -- but it's only a smoke and mirror game with tax breaks and give backs that cheat our taxpayers, our pensions and the ability to pay for alderman's and X-mayors personal 24/7 Praetorian security forces.

No criminal charges now -- remember these are companies that create the so-called much needed jobs. So just let them off with a plea deal and a hand slap while neither admitting or denying the charges and a promise to not do it again.

Are we getting warmer?

Jeez, I mean, that was the Chicago Fire. Can we get a little more specific?

*

In the meantime, they just reported full details and showed the business's (not city pod) videotape of a burglary being done at a hair-care supplies place on West Roosevelt Road. Back door looked like something from a junkyard it'd been pried so many times, really ridiculous, like everything else in these areas it's like there's bears trying to get in all the time.

Guys loaded up a van, didn't even touch the cash register. They took $80,000 worth of packages of cosmetic human hair, which poor people need to buy.

I know of at least two people in this department who are by far, viewed by people in the IT industry, as two of the smartest around. Neither clout. One a sgt. by testing, one a det. by testing. Both with street experience. Could make Goldstein cry like a sissy if they called him out.

But no clout, no position. Sad.

Um, if this guy is so golden, why did he join the police dept.? Anybody know anything about his application or hiring process? Sounds like the fix was in from the get-go. Seriously, if you were THAT much of a golden child, wouldn't the private industry be knocking/breaking down your door to hire you?

My guess is he's a mediocre talent at best, and just like Booberman, will be passed around to agency after agency.

Seriously...if you were that smart, and in that much demand, and could command a much, much higher salary in the private sector, why in the world would you join the CPD?

I will have 25 years on this year.

I don't recognize this department.1500 were hired in '86. Less than half of us are left. When we came on we were shown the ropes by real policemen, who were ALLOWED to be the police.

You young guys/gals would be well-served to pay attention to the 'revolver police.' Because when we are gone, you will have no one to learn from. I'm STILL learning from the guys with 30 years on.

I feel sorry for you guys with a lot of time to go, because working conditions for you will only get worse.

Take advantage of the free tuition. Finish up your degree, get a masters or a law degree. They're not going to be giving any raises, so reap the benefits you can. St. X has all kinds of classes at the police academy. I just got my MBA. Cost to me if I paid myself, around $34K. Took me two years. They also have a special certificate for 'Fraud Investigation.'

Have a plan 'B'.

4/25/2011 04:43:00 PM

You don't get it, do you? Chicago's stupid tax rate is forcing businesses to DO business elsewhere.

Instead of maintaining two offices, the businesses will just close down the Chicago office entirely now. And so the decline continues.

Another of the "Know Nothings" being heard from. Hey dipshit, businesses that buy for resale pay no sales tax, it is paid by the consumer at the point of sale. Therefore it makes no difference where the business buys its stock.

You pay tax on a car, or technically anything else, that you buy at the rate of the locality where you live and where you garage the car. The Illinois tax is NOT a sales tax, it is a use tax. Big difference. Believe it or not, and you won't because it is impossible to enforce, but those big ticket items that you buy from ABT, or any other store outside the city are also subject to use tax based on where it will be used. It gets collected on cars simply because they must be registered, that is licensed.

They desire no societal law enforcement or lawful punishment for unlawful acts. They want us to merely be an inanimate barrier or wall between them and bad people, but they do not understand that the savage or hoard will not be merely contained. The savage has a thirst for new victims and a mere wall will never be high enough to defeat them."

They had at tops around 80 detailed out. The detailed out people went into a second page on the old worksheets.

Some no one had ever seen, no one knew what they looked like. The best spot had to be midnights at the Cardinals house. Go to bed and get a sound night's sleep then go run your business in the morning.

When you own a business you pay no sales tax on items you are purchasing from a wholesale distributor for the express purpose of resale. (You report what happened to it at the end of the year. sold, restocked, returned, etc) anything else purchased for the business such as a cash register, fax, window treatments, refridgerator, etc taxes are pd just like anyone else. Business orgs are renting shops in strip malls where the tax is advantageous to them and all the businesses in that org will use the address as their own store#2 enabling them to legally get the tax break. Just like IBM and Xerox, etc do. Where do u think the little guys learned it from?

In the meantime, they just reported full details and showed the business's (not city pod) videotape of a burglary being done at a hair-care supplies place on West Roosevelt Road. Back door looked like something from a junkyard it'd been pried so many times, really ridiculous, like everything else in these areas it's like there's bears trying to get in all the time.

Guys loaded up a van, didn't even touch the cash register. They took $80,000 worth of packages of cosmetic human hair, which poor people need to buy.

First of all, "poor people" can't afford this kind of hair because its very expensive. It's people like you that always want to blame "poor people". Get it right dude. There are people of all races ( who can afford it)......yes even whites because I know stylist that have white clients...that pays tons of money to wear weaves.
