85 Clemency Petitions
Quinn continues to release convicts and erase criminal records:
- Gov. Pat Quinn granted 85 clemency petitions on Good Friday, pardoning or expunging criminal records on a number of felony and misdemeanor crimes, including some that were committed more than 50 years ago.
The crimes Quinn wiped from the record include reckless conduct, aggravated assault, robbery, resisting a peace officer, drug possession, burglary, theft, arson and prostitution. Quinn denied clemency requests for another 189 cases.
The earliest offense dates to 1960, the latest was committed in 2004. Most of those who received pardons were initially sentenced to probation or paid small fines.
As listed, many of these charges aren't run-of-the-mill misdemeanors. And it sure would be nice to have those "resisting a peace officer" convictions made permanent so it popped up on routine name checks. But Quinn can't be bothered with that.

Don't bitch if you were too lazy to vote, or worse yet, voted for Queef, I mean Quinn.
Sorry. Lifelong "criminal records" are bullshit for most offenses.
Rape, murder, molesting kids, sure... Those are the gravest acts of anti social behavior that might warrant a lifelong Scarlett letter... Drug offenses, fights that wind up getting charged as "aggravated assaults" petty bullshit and low level felonies? Sorry, no. It's just plain wrong to make every sentence a life sentence.
Just say no to third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances, but second chances make sense.
As a nation, the United States is toast.
Most of the voting public, (at least those who can be bothered to vote), are sooo totally and thoroughly ignorant of the factors that matter in a free society.
The savages only care about keeping their stomach and their crack pipe full.
The crime family has learned through trial and error how to control everything by first controlling the lawmakers, the courts and the media. The rest takes care of itself. It is the sole reason that left wingers like Pat Quinn exist... to do their bidding and dirty work.

Quinn is a softball moosh jagoff.
At least Quinn can't clean out Death Row. Ryan already took care of that before he went to jail.

Right. We could be like Ohio or Wisconsin, voted in Republicans who promptly gutted police & fire bargaining rights. Good move eh?
But the Republicans in Ohio promised police & fire they would not include police & fire in union assaults. Police & fire then supported the incoming Republicans and sold their union brothers out and got the shaft in return almost immediately.
Does that mean support Democrats?
Hell no, we simply need to think carefully and support those who will safeguard OUR union rights and pensions.
Nothing else matters.

Patton may have sad that but he didn't say it first.
It is generally attributed to George Santayana.
How nice of him...a..hole
Pardoning people on Good Friday?
Maybe Pat Quinn read that in a Bible that he 'found' in a drawer at a hotel he was staying at on our dime.
He must have thought that he was just following Jesus.
No, you're not even close to a 'St. Patrick.'
But with all the people you lied to and betrayed perhaps you can take the biblical moniker of... Judas.
P.S. Put the book back

12:31:00 AM ask the dad from Arlington Heights about your opinion, oh that's right you can't. Maybe Quinn will grant clemency to that kid next time around so he can have one more chance.
Quinn is a piece of shit.....and so is anyone of these fucking morons that voted for this asshole!
Just say no to third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances, but second chances make sense.

I disagree. What is the reason for a record if it is not, in fact, a record?
How about... don't mess up in the first place? Be accountable for your actions. Man up. Is it too hard these days to do the right thing?
This constant state of forgiveness for people is the reason people feel they can do what they please. There are no real consequences.
Thanks alot to every shithead that voted for Quinn.
I would like to know the racial breakdown of who got pardoned.
I would also like to know what those who didn't get pardoned did....they must really be very nasty people.
Don't do the crime if you dont want to do the time.

Preckwinkle: Criminal justice system racist
By Michael Volpe Times Correspondent | Posted: Friday, April 22, 2011 11:09 am
CHICAGO | In the winter of 2008, then presidential candidate Barack Obama asserted that blacks and whites "are arrested at very different rates, are convicted at very different rates and receive different sentences for the same crime."
Speaking Tuesday at the Fairmont Hotel during an event sponsored by the Executives Club of Chicago, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle echoed that assertion about Cook County's criminal justice system.
"Nobody talks about institutional racism, but what kind of a criminal justice system has an outcome where 70 percent of the people are African-American and the rest are Latinos."
Preckwinkle described Cook County jails as "entirely black and brown people. ... This is in a county where a third of our population is African-Americans, a third Latino, and a third white and Asian."

Right, let's make sure we broadcast a swipe of the pen to exonerate criminals looking to wipe their slates clean after living it easy and all on impulse.
Why this media emphasis and fascination with redemption?. After all, it takes more effort, discipline and conscience to live a good life all along.
I really don't understand it.

Hey, lib. A judge handed down their sentence. For most, it was not their first offense. Hence, the sentence. Gov. quinn should be judge in every criminal case, since he's basically making the msentence anyway.
I work in 001 and keep running into more and more of these jag-offs downtown everyday. All starting with that woman who was beaten within an inch of her life for not giving asshole a smoke. Almost every single one of these "clemency recipients" uses the Pacific Garden Mission as their new home address. If you have family members who like to go downtown, tell them to keep their head on a swivel, cause these a-holes get really brave when there are no coppers around.
Will Q grant clemency to the CPD 1300?
Everyone knows....a vote whore politician scrambles for every vote they can get!
" low level felonies " are you joking? Felonies are serious crimes, that's why one should consider the ramifcations of committing one, you know, like a record!
I'm sure if the arson, robbery, burglary, reckless conduct that led to your injury or it was your arrest that was resisted which also resulted in your injury or a civilian who has beaten enough to require hospitalization, you feelings MIGHT be different.
Crack, heroin, how about I sell some to a member of YOUR family...you ok with that?
In 60 years of life I managed not to get a record by
not commiting a crime, if I can do it, so can everyone else, you know, like the millions upon millions that don't commit crimes.

I've never been arrested so I don't have to worry about a criminal record. Everything one does has repercussions so you have to think before you act. Sometimes shit happens, to bad. If you have been arrested and it follows you for the rest of your life OH WELL. If I'm going to hire a person, I want to know if they have been arrested even if it was only one time for bullshit. My father, mother, brother and sisters have never been arrested so it is possible to do the right thing. So if one fucks up then accept the outcome. You sound like a liberal and your attitude is what is turning this country into shit. ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS!!!
Well when do the sheep stop standing around muttering holy shit, these politcians that sell off peoples safety for votes or their own personal gain are getting old..........
Time to wake up people....
The best predictor of future behavior, is past behavior. At least a criminal history gives the good guys some warning.

RE: Preckwinkle Comments ;
Here's a thought, maybe, just maybe, the arrest & conviction rates are the way they are because those arrested and convicted by a JURY or plea of GUILTY are the ones commiting the CRIMES.
Oh no! Can't even think that let alone say it because it's " racist "
Don't care for Obama & his policies, your a racist...I stop you for speeding & no plates...racist...you get arrested for shooting someone & get convicted ...racist. The picture a little clearer now.
I wish I had a life long EXCUSE for FAILURE, in school, in society & in life.
This brings to mind the drug offense expungement process in the courts a while back where everyone was coming in for random drug screens (requirement for expunging their criminal records). 99.9% failed the drug screen, some for offenses ten or more years old.
People don't change, only the excuses do.
Most of those who received pardons were initially sentenced to probation or paid small fines.
--------------------------------
IOW, most were never considered any threat to the rest of us at all even when they were sentenced.
This is a very common practice in every state.

why wish for something you'll never need?

"Nobody talks about institutional racism, but what kind of a criminal justice system has an outcome where 70 percent of the people are African-American and the rest are Latinos."
(perhaps a system where 70% of the assholes commiting crimes and getting pinched are the aforementioned 'African-American'?)
Preckwinkle described Cook County jails as "entirely black and brown people. ... This is in a county where a third of our population is African-Americans, a third Latino, and a third white and Asian."
(which means that the 3rd 'white and asian' either don't commit crimes or don't get pinched.)
Pardoning people on Good Friday?
"Give us Barabas!"
Right. We could be like Ohio or Wisconsin, voted in Republicans who promptly gutted police & fire bargaining rights. Good move eh?

Since that didn't happen I have to ask: Are you intentionally misstating the facts or are you not keeping up?
I will give you the benefit of the doubt today, but don't let it happen again or I will not be so generous.
"Nobody talks about institutional racism, but what kind of a criminal justice system has an outcome where 70 percent of the people are African-American and the rest are Latinos."

Should be 80% African-American since they do 80% or more of the crime.
Why go after white or Asian people? They are generally the victims.
Obviously it s time to de-criminalize black on black crime so not so many of them will get arrested.
I had no idea Perrywinkle was so fucking stupid. Advanced degrees and all and she thinks the crime stat demographics will somehow match the racial makeup?
How come the only African-American to speak up about black crime and entitlement is Bill Cosby and he gets shouted down as an Uncle Tom?
These people are living in a fucking dream world. There will be no improvement until the AA race begins to take responsibility for their own actions and their own condition in life.
Now go get in line for that 'guvment cheese.

Another CPS student heard from. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Nice, between Ryan commuting death penalities & releasing violent offenders and Quinn expunging more criminals, law abiding citizens will not have a chance. My guess is Quinn didn't even look at each case he was signing to ensure this perpetrator truely took action to correct the offense against society. Just because someone is "old" or a case is old, does not mean that person is any less dangerous. Remember, it is not just about what we can do, but who we know and who we can influence and who we can pay to do our dirty work.

Oh no, not that.
So it's OK to gut public workers union rights if police & fire are not included? Sounds like a sell out.
They are still trying mighty hard in Wisconsin since one the political party in power is blaming evreything wrong with the country on unionized workers.
From API: "As Ohio Gov. John Kasich prepares to sign a bill that limits collective bargaining rights for 350,000 public workers across the state, police officers and firefighters are refusing to give up the fight to block the legislation. Unlike Wisconsin's high-profile effort to limit collective bargaining rights for public workers, Ohio's newly passed bill includes police and firefighters, who say the new law that sped through the Legislature threatens the safety of both their officers and the people they are paid to protect."
Hey what about "womb baby" the latest serial killer of young women. He'll be coddled for the rest of his stining life.
To the ill informed twit. We in Chicago don't have bargaining rights, we don't have a union, a union has a right to strike, we and others don't. Also agreements do not have to be kept by the city in final OKs. We have a bargaining agent in the FOP. Stop whining for these other public employees, teachers etc. who wouldn't care what happens to you or your tax money.
Don't do the crime if you dont want to do the time.
4/23/2011 09:22:00 AM
In Illinois, go ahead, do the crime
and don't worry, you'll only do half the time!
Bullshit. Carlos Santana said it first I heard him.
Hey 20/20. Daley hid the Pacific Garden Mission just so you know. If you see it, let it know that Meigs Field has been looking for it for years. signed, a City of Chicago parking meter change counting machine, ret.
Is it too late for him to give me clemency from this reprimand?
It great, do all that police work: investigate, talk to witnesses, compile all the evidence, make the arrest, write a thorough report, go to court......all for nuthin.
Stop saying we don't have a union. Everyone knows the agency to which we're referring. It's like telling someone it's Illinoy not Illinoise as though they were two different states. Thanks, I almost went the wrong way.
