Be Aware

Stories like this pop up every so often, but not usually with the 18-year sentence at the end:
  • A gray Nissan kept turning up outside Chicago police patrolman [LH]’s home on a quiet block in Chicago’s Southwest Side, scaring his family.

It circled his home a few times in October 2010, rounding the block, according to Cook County prosecutors. One of its occupants, Trini Morado, stopped and stared down his wife, [...], and their 7-year-old daughter, prosecutors said.

On Thursday, [they] got to testify at the sentencing of the 6-foot-tall, 305-pound Morado, where their stalking case was used by prosecutors to ask for a stiffer sentence on a kidnapping charge against Morado.

Morado, 39, of the 5100 block of Normandy in Chicago, was given 18 years in prison in Cook County Circuit Court in Maywood.

Yet another reason to seriously look at residency. Or the city supplying all active officers with a car and half-a-dozen bodyguards/drivers.

And a little known fact is that the offender, along with the co-defendant, are related to Capt. Juan Morado from 006.

It's called "doxing" and you'd be amazed how adroit a typical 15 year old is at it...

Once they have your name, forget it... They will have your home address, your family's names, etc in a matter of minutes. Something as simple as a personal email address is usually attached to a cascade of information that leads back to your personal identity.

The amount of publicly available personal information is staggering. You, as a LEO, have no insulation from this, whatsoever- presuming you own a home, pay an electric bill, have a credit card, published a marriage announcement, etc.

The only real soloution to this problem is to pass Federal legislation allowing individuals to 'opt out' of certain public records publications. Until the laws catch up the terrifying new technology, accept the fact that privacy died when the internet was born.

There are ways to improve your situation; everyone needs to spend some time understanding the issue of privacy in the online world and what you can do to maintain yours.

You'll never be bulletproof from an A+ Electronic Ninja, but it's possible to outwit the average shithead using google and a library computer.

He has the little prick sit in the 006 parking lot with his lights off trying to catch them leaving a little early. Sgt Z is a fucking tool!!! Yeah, no big surprise there. The dept wanted this whole thing to go away bad. Especially with the Capt being involved. Serious gang ties. Makes you wonder how the guy us still on the job and how he got promoted. Another three time merit wonder. Capt was unable to save him this time like so many times before. Only reason he went away was because of the kidnapping case was from Riverside. If it was in Chicago he would have never been charged. He caught the stalking case while out on bond for that one.

And yet the State of Illinois continues to deny its citizens the ability to carry concealed handguns. My next door neighbor is a police officer, and HIS wife carries the Colt Detective Special her late father gave her while she hauls her kids to school, soccer, softball, church, etc.

I'm just a lowly security officer, but my wife totes a .357 Magnum. I have made some enemies out and about while working.

All,

I had the pleasure of attending my first Comp Stat meeting today. I can say it was an eye opening experience in terms of what is being asked of us. With that being said, I can tell you it is imperative that everyone from myself down to the lowest sonority P.O., know where, when, inside or outside and motive regarding why crime is occurring. We also should be deploying our resources as such on a watch by watch bases given that trends change from watch to watch for certain things. From attending the meeting it is clear to me that bad numbers is not what places you in the proverbial trick bag, it's not knowing what your numbers are and not addressing it.

Having said that, a lot of the focus will go back to some old school mechanisms for crime prevention such as locking up the dice game players, ANOV's when appropriate especially in the areas where we have spikes or historic problems, loitering etc.

So I can ensure everyone is on the same page and know what we should be doing, I want every watch (Capt/Lt) to conduct an analysis of the crime on their watch and let me know what you are doing to address it submitted via email, feel free to converse with tact and mission teams. I know I've had specific conversations with you regarding crime issues, but I want to ensure if the Supt or 1st Dep walks in on any watch, we all are on the same page. The time frame I want to concentrate on is 5 Jun to 29 Jun. You should be able to cite, what day of the week, time and locations are most problematic for your watch. Subsequently you should be able to cite what gang conflict if any may be a contributing factor, or if we have identified a robbery crew etc. Once that's done, the enforcement in these specified times should be targeted, ie arrests, contacts, if it's a hotspot dispersals should be done along with ANOV's when warranted. We should all be familiar with Caboodle and data warehouse, it's all in there.

To help everyone a tad bit I'm going to attach the chart from 29 May to 25 Jun, things are not going to change much. I just want you to look at and you will clearly see the times of our public violence incidents as well as arrests and contact card during the same time period. Just a hint, if the violence is up during a particular time, then so should contacts with people in that area, arrests, contact cards, street stops, traffic stops, curfews, school absentees etc. Today is thursday, I want your analysis by sunday. In reviewing the past 28 days we are pretty good but there is room for improvement, but I want to see if we all catch the same thing. This is not rocket science or designed to trick anyone.

Also, the Supt wants us to start pounding ALL QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES. (See the Bureau of Professional Standards Website)
ALL Burglaries
ALL Motor Vehicle Thefts
ALL Thefts
Vandalism
Prostitution
Narcotics

Thanks in advance

Didn't a member of the CPD with the same name intervene on behalf of another family member who was arrested that day? Just wonderin'.

Reading this I ask - well what about the average citizen? How paranoid should we be?

I know this is Illinois, land of no crime, according to the politicians who say people don't need guns.

My response to that is they don't need armed security details then.

Let's start saving a lot of money by disarming the politicians who may think twice about the real crime going on in Illinois when they are unarmed and susceptible to what the average citizen is exposed to.

You're ALWAYS under observation and you're NEVER safe, not even in your own home. It's not being paranoid, it's being an adult in a world full of shitheads. Too much ado about nothing. The capt actually sent a retired sgt to tell the officer to drop the charges. When he didn't the capt had a fit since the capt owns the house that his gang banger brother lives in and that house was put up for bond on the kidnapping case. After the stalking case bond was revoked and capt was very concerned.

So what is so new about police bosses tied in with gangs? How many bosses were tied (and are still) tied in with the Chicago Mafia. Plenty. I can remember gambling addict bosses who were "owned" by the mob. Supt. Matt Rodriguez had to leave because of his "friendship" with mobsters. And how about Mayor Daley 1 & 2. They were all beholden to the mob. And the beat goes on.

Nothing paranoid about being prepared... Better to have it and not need it than desperately needing it and ya ain't got it...

We're armed, cell phoned and accompanied by the two 150lb+ four legged defenders even when we take the trash out...

Never come home and pull directly into the garage/parking spot... Do what we call the "figure 8" approach... Think about it. It kinda makes sense.

One of our esteemed family members made mention of the Mossberg 930 SPX semi-auto shotgun. Interesting piece of armament. A stout fighting shotgun for 1/2 to 1/3 the price of an FN/Benelli/Beretta?

Too bad the G/O's reflect the previous administration's goofiness about "pistol grips" making long guns dangerous-er.

Kinda silly actually... M4's have pistol grips but shotguns are problematic? Or maybe we missed somethin'?

Hmmmmm...
