- In 2007, my husband was shot in the line of duty. Today was the first day of his trial the People vs. Bobby Selvie. At 12:45 pm I turned at looked back in the court room and saw only one Police Officer, our good friend Tom McDonagh. I thank all of our good friends that came and showed support but by 12 45 the courtroom was completely empty and it was scary. Scary to know that this defendent already thinks he is calling the shots, not taking deals offered to him, scary to think that the police don't come out in force to say, Heh this is enough. If you are in court tomorrow, please come to room 602. Don't come for me, don't even come for Pat, come to show bad guys that they don't run the show, they don't call the shots, they can't continue to get away with shooting the police

Important information like this should have been posted on the FOP website!
The FOP don't even post Seniority info in a timely manner anymore let alone any other more important information that the members should know about!
Before the FOP rebuttal garbage starts about this or that! I check the FOP website daily for information and it always seems to be lagging or late with information. Do other Officers see the same thing?
How are the masses who are working side jobs, dealing with family issues and doing police related functions are to know that this case was on!
Not making excuses, but just saying the obvious that I'm sure effects us all!

Know that I will make every effort to attend. Can we assume it's at 26th/Cal? I don't remember hearing anything from neither the news, of course, nor from our union, nor the department. Why hasn't the union or the dept. sent out notification about this? Why haven't the union and dept. each sent a representative to attend from start to finish? Typical lying m.f.ers saying that they're there for us, but in reality nowhere to be found.

I will admit that I did not know, and the hones lies on me because Monday was the one day this week i do not have court, but please tell me that they had signs posted up in the sign in room. I hope that somebody had put a sign up - if not, somebody get on it.
If you are at 26 Cal at all this week, you should be there. You tell the ASA to text or call you when you are truly needed and you go sit in that room. I will be there. I am embarrassed that it took Pat's wife to write to SCC to inform us.
What has happened to the CPD?
Pat is a stand up guy and deserves our support. I'm sorry but the FOP should have sent us something or maybe posted a notice in the daily bulletin.
You'd think CPD would send an official representative. You'd think Mayor would send one too, at least for first day. Shame on both.
Just dealt with the asshole this morning at work in the jail. Him and his boys took they're sweet time getting ready for court. I hope the prick gets the maximum sentence.
Wow, do I need say more? I remember on trials of offenders on police shootings when there was standing room only and spilling out into the hallways. That is a pure shame that this had to be written. It is disappointing on every level to think at what this department has come to. Honor those who honor your families and loved ones by putting their lives on the line every day to keep this city from completely falling into an oblivion.

Officers and community have to come out in a show support for the officers who risk their lives in our communities. We can't sit back and not get involved or lives are at stake. The POS, judges, media, etc. has to see our presence or we will loose our communities and jeopardize lives of police officers.

now that is a great idea my friend. Although it is not SCC's responsibility, FOP should be on top of this, it is anohter way of getting the info out there.

No Excuse but had no idea. Shitty thing when no one informs us of stuff like this. A one liner in the daily buletin or the fop website would have sufficed and I'm sure plenty of coppers would have cleared their schedules to attend. My apologies Mrs. J.

This is the typical mentality of most cops. This is what one of them told me: I work 1st watch and thus can't show up. I hope other coppers who work 3rd watch show up. Also, if the department gave us o.t. then more cops would show up. I am not being callous, just truthful.
P.S.- I had traffic court. But you better fucking believe it I am showing up the next day! Let's get out there guys and gals and pack that court room.
I had no idea this was even going on. There is no way for us as officers to know these dates if they arent publicized by the dept or the FOP. I admittedly will not be there today either as I have to work but will try to make it friday. I would like to apologize to the family but I think the apology should come from the deptartment for not showing any concern. Again as officers, we show up, do our job, and go home. Many people, that follow your blog myself included would love to show support and even go to court. Yes I could split my day and work in the morning go to court and finish my day in the evening. Yes it would be a hassle but not a shot in the back hassle like Pat endured. We would need location and expected times to show support. Other than being in court is there anything else we can do while the case is being tried?

When I told the girl who answered the phone, not Pat or Jessica I told her about the court case & usually Frank would have it on the web site. I told her that I read this on the 2nd City Cop & she stated "that was my 1st mistake!" When I told her that the "Officer's" wife wrote in taht the court room was empty & would like to let the officers at 26th Street that the trial is going on & would like to have some of the Finest in court.

Times have changed. People have become more self oriented and forget the tradition of brotherhood. Communication has been hampered by different motivations, therefore everything is lost in translation.
I see this in recent passings of retirees....no news no recognition at times.....forgotten heroes..... It's sad.
But a reality. I hope at least in our hearts we don't forget those passed, and those in need.

I posted early how numerous people who had lost in the last election are now sitting on FOP Committees getting cash from the FOP funds to sit on these Committees. Check out the FOP website, we have more people on Committees then actually assigned to a ghetto district. Why do we need so many? How much is this costing the FOP? Is Mike paying back those who ran on his ticket with him and lost by assigning them these positions? Every day he looks more and more like Quinn, Daley, Rahm, etc.
So don't worry, Mike will always drop the ball unless it makes him look good or puts money in his or one of his hang arounds pockets!

The detective's handling these cases are the ones who should contact FOP and have them get the word out. The FOP doesn't get notified of these cases the detectives do. Being a retired detective you should know that.

Anyone know what's going on with the administrative detail of po's that began on the 19th? It is a 90 day detail or an indefinite thing? FOP had a blurb on it on the 17th and said they'd talk to O'Neill on the 20th, but nothing's come out.
At first I felt guilty then I thought about it... what the F I didn"t know about it.

Just to let everyone know. Tomorrow 29 June 11 the court room is being moved to room 606 the judge will start around 1000. Myself and a few officers went on the 27 June at around 1330 hrs and the courtroom was empty. But on the 28 there were roughly 9 officers there towards the end of the day. It's sad but at least there was s few more officers showing up tomorrow it better be a packed house

There must been improvement from Monday. The co-defendant who plead out and testified against Selvie was all over the place with his statements.
That is the CPD that Jody, Daley Ilana, and Mara all dreamed about. Staffed by scared little self centered kids that pimp on each other and write revenue tickets to feed the crooked daley thiefdom. Did you ever wonder why these new police use so much hair gel? Well it's because they need something to keep the little brains that they have in their heads. Thanks to those officers that attended the trial today. THanks also to Officer Beatty at News Media that offered assistance in contactinng commanding officers. No thanks to Google search engine that supplied me with the Chicago Police Department Headquarters phone number: 312-744-4000 (311). This week was a good example of assuming the word was out, when it was not. The trial has been moved to room 606 for Wednesday. Thanks also to all officers that serve and protect my family from the generations of violent criminals I am now too familiar with....may your wives and children never truly know the horrors of Cook County's inhabitants.
Please post the time, date, room. I'll make a special trip to 26th but not going down there unless it's definitely going on.

I have met your husband once or twice before. Great man, Thank god he is OK. The outcome of this case is in my prayers. I have not been to court and I apologize as my schedule just doesn't allow it until Thursday. Wife working, children at home on summer break, cases in outlying courts and side jobs. Best to you and tour husband.

Skahill isn't in charge of CAPS since CAPS re-organized.
Maybe some of those court officer's / sgt's could get off their duff's and pop in to rm. 606 to show some support,it's not like they're overworked and they get a free pass from actual policing.
Beth - I hope they pack the court for the rest of the trial. I know if my dad was still alive and on the force he would be there. Hopefully this POS is found guilty and gets the max sentence.
