No Coverage

The papers didn't cover it. If it was on TV, we missed it. The major news radio station was mysteriously silent. But it's something everyone in a position of power ought to be thinking about:
  • The head of the Chicago police union says the city is not ready to host two major summits that would bring both international leaders and protestors. [...], the president of the Chicago police union, said summits like the G-8 and NATO bring a "bunch of wild, anti-globalist anarchists."

Protestors notoriously clashed with police officers in Seattle and Pittsburgh at previous political summits and [he] says Chicago's police force doesn't have the manpower needed to deal with thousands of potential protestors.

"The City of Chicago needs to take a serious look at how much revenue they're going to allocate immediately for new hirings because we are not ready prepared for a large summit such as this," [some guy] said.

If the stories out of recent parades are true, along with the 010 District melee and all the recent wilding/gooning/flash mob incidents downtown, then the dreaded "manpower" issue is going to be front and center very quickly. Academy classes ought to be started in very short order to make up the steadily declining numbers, because we can name a dozen people who will retire before May of next year just to avoid this thing.

It isnt an issue of adequate Manpower,it an issue of competent leadership. 98% of the current White Shirts couldn't lead themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Oh, goody. Maybe coppers from another jurisdiction can get in trouble like we did in Pittsburgh.

Also no coverage of the fiasco that was the Gay Pride Parade, over 20 arrested, 10-1's called battery to P.O's, assaults to P.O.'s, all kinds of fights, public drinking, indecent exposure, sex acts in the alley etc.
Why no coverage of this in the media? why is this swept under the rug? Couldn't be because we don't want to offend the gay community do we????

Also, no coverage of all the problems in and around the PR fest all week, there were over 30 arrests just on the last saturday of the fest, 014 was on bypass, all prisoners sent to 025. 10-1's called, shots fired, gun arrests, battery to P.O.'s etc etc. again, no coverage. Guess we didn't want the truth to be known about the PR's and their nonsense fest either.

If this were 1968, we would kick all their asses and the useless media pricks asses for good measure. Ah, but this is 2011 and there are no Viet Nam vets and the department is getting ever closer to all 5 foot tall officers. Not to mention we're smaller in stature now, our numbers are dwindling. Even if they kicked the hiring into overdrive, we could have maybe 800 probationary officers by then? The district I work in is down about 125 officers. If we lost another 30, we'd be at 50%. We're having trouble putting up rapids and manning all the beats and a wagon. Unless we're going to borrow a couple of thousand coppers from somewhere, we just don't have the manpower to handle this stuff.

This was on the NBC5 news at 10PM last night and has video of one of the 911 callers from North Avenue Beach last Memorial Day calling out Emanual and McCarthy for 'spinning' the heat and public safety story to avoid embarrassment. NBC has an "Exclusive interview" with Dick Johnson and the 911 caller who stated the beach was "covered with animals."

Woman Believes Beach Violence Covered Up

"[Amy] Schwartz says she was walking from Oak Street Beach toward North Avenue Beach when she witnessed a woman being beaten by a gang of people on the beach and called 911."

"...Schwartz believes the story of what really happened that day is being purposely downplayed in the name of saving Chicago's summer tourist business and the reputations of the city's new mayor and police superintendent."

"Both Gary McCarthy and Rahm Emanuel have said the people suffering from heat exhaustion was the only reason for closing the beach."

"A city spokesman says the violence calls were handled promptly, and deny there's any attempt to spin the facts."

It's too late to hire to have PO's ready for street duty next year. A PO is really not much good until at least a year and a half after hiring, actually, more like two years. Until then it is all training.

The City needed to hire a year ago to have additional officers ready for street duty next year.

Too late for that.

And now there are no more bodies to scrounge from inside spots or specialized units. No more units to cannibalize. and of course, there have been no promotions for quite a while. The ranks of detectives are particularly shorthanded.

Se we are going to be either screwed, really screwed or really really screwed.

No matter what, there are only 7 days in a week in which a PO might work. but there is 24 hours in each day. That's never been tried before, 24/7 on duty, but nothing would surprise me in this town.

If there are not enough cops to go around, does Chicago have the cool and expensive tech toys for crowd control?

I can only wonder what kind of chaos will hit when the flash mobs start to target the out of town protestors as easy pickings... Many protestors have nice laptops and smartphones after all.

The manpower solution will be to eliminate the 5th period furloughs. While they're at it they might as well cancel the 13th period to deal with the silliness of the world coming to an end on Dec. 21, according to the Mayan calender.

How is the City going to handle something like this, being undermanned by 2,000 Police Officers!

How many more Police Officers will leave the job before this garbage starts up!

We have plenty of war vets on this job now. Guys and girls who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's not 1968 any more. We, by not voting, or by voting for socialist assholes disguised as democrats, have allowed this to happen.

How many cops are even fucking REGISTERED to vote? Was it 23% of the FOP membership? That's pathetic. I served in the military and overseas in Iraq. I take my right to vote seriously and have never missed a chance to cast my vote against the Machine and its subversive criminals.

Unfortunately, I'm in the minority. When I went to vote against Rahm, the place was literally empty. I was the only one in there voting. Think about that the next time you wonder why we are the only state in the union that doesn't have concealed carry and is in the worst fiscal shape in the country.

When they come for your pensions, don't wonder how it happened. You let it happen by not getting involved. You let Daley get a massive pension while he stole and bankrupt this city. Now you have Rahm trying to finish the job and put socialism in place when he can get everyone dependent on the government.

Reading this blog, it's clear there is not sufficient law enforcement and if anyone comes into Chicago, they should be packing.

Concealed carry still not legal in Illinois? Neither is all this BS crime that seems to go on unfettered by those who are paid to enforce the laws (Are you reading this Anita???)

In Toronto, a smaller city with less violence, they had about 4,000 police dedicated to this adventure, and still lost the town. As of today, the bills are still flowing in.
Here, with 3000 men short, it would take 40% of the entire police force ( at overtime ) to work this. Don't forget the other massive costs, including barricades, bus service, lost tourism dollars ( yes we have a major convention at the same time )
and the potential violence at the airports also, we are in lots of trouble.
Not only that, with the State Police missing about 30% of the manpower, County dito, there is little or no back-up on the horizon.

Manpower down, down, down, Training in crowd control non existent, All the supervisors who had a handle on past events are all gone, so there is no leadership in place.
