Cop Killer Dies in Prison
And his wife and step-son want to thank their supporters over the years:
- Hello my name is Bob Peloza, I am the son of Chicago Police Officer Robert F. Wenzel Killed-In-The-Line-Of-Duty 13 Jan 1973. Today I received news that his killer died in Statesville prison Sunday June 26 2011. This is a great day for my mother and I, we no longer have to go to parole hearings or do petitions. This is such a joyous day, we are so happy. For the first time in a long time, I cried tears of joy... Finally my father can rest in peace knowing his killer will rot in hell..
Quote from my mother: Good morning everyone. This is to thank each and every one of you for anything you ever did to help me keep the murderer of my Bob in prison. It is finally over. HE IS DEAD. As of Sunday. No more parole hearings, no more petitions. He is on his journey to HELL. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
Rose
On behalf of myself and my mother thank you to everyone who thought of us, helped us and signed petitions to help keep him in prison
On behalf of the crew here at SCC, may the death of this murderer bring you and your mother peace at last.

Bob was working Area 6 Traffic solo on the midnights when he pulled over a northbound vehicle for traffic at 1801 N. Lake Shore Dr. near the pedestrian overpass to North Ave. Beach.
Rest In Peace, Bob.
Richard Luckey just left Stateville in a pine box en route to Hell.
I pray that this brings closure for the Wenzel family.
It should have happened at the end of a rope shortly after the incident.
This country has lost its way. I don't believe the Founding Fathers would have wanted to support scumbag killers at the taxpayer's expense.
Revolution is coming, but not soon enough. The Land of Lincoln is a degenerate socialist cesspool.
My deepest sympathies to the family that had to suffer for so many years with this unnecessary hardship. At least the fight is finally over. Ours has only just begun.
RIP Lura Lynn Ryan... all reports say she was a wonderful and classy lady. Her only mistake was she married a corrupt politician. Well, actually, she married a pharmacist who later became a corrupt politician.
So, it turns out that between Lura Lynn's visits to the Federal penitentiary at Terra Haute, Indiana, Jim Thompson has been able to snowjob the warden into letting George Ryan out to visit friends and family and enjoy himself back at home on FOUR separate occasions. That's bullshit! I'm sure other inmates don't get those same considerations!
Guess now, there's no longer any reason for corrupt George to be busting out of jail. He can just sit back and wait for Blago to come join him and talk about the good old corrupt days in Illinois politics! Of course, Madigan and Quinn are still participants, so here's to getting the whole gang back together again... IN PRISON!
Good things come to those who wait!
Bob Jr. is a wonderful man, and truly a great friend... Bob I am glad you and your mom can finally have PEACE.... Love you!!
We win together, we die together.
WE are the Chicago Police.
You're welcome. I wish a violent and painful death would have afflicted the shitbag instead, but good riddance anyway.
good glad to hear the good news. now you guys can hopefully move on with a new chapter in your lives since the piece of shit is dead.
For the youngsters, the murder of Officer Robert Wenzel (who was working a one man car) spurned the Chicago Police Wives to 'DEMAND' TWO MAN CARS after dark!
God Bless his Family!
This post by the family sent chills up and down my spine. There but for the grace of God go any of us.
May your husband and father rest in peace; may you find comfort and relief in knowing that all of your efforts to keep his killer in prison worked.
and they lived happily ever after........
never forget,SEMPER FI
RIP Officer and God Bless your family that waited too long for this day.
I hope this malignant monster hated each and every one of those some 48 years in prison.

'spurned' means rejected - which would mean the CPD wives rejected the idea of two man cars
I think you meant 'spurred' which means 'to urge on'
Hopefully, the Wenzel Family is now at peace.
LATE NOTICE: On that same note, the families of Severin & Rizzato are still (along with other cop killer families) attending parole hearings.
Their EOW was 17 July 1970.
A BUS (SPONSORED BY THE CHICAGO POLICE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION) WILL LEAVE HDQTRS. AT 0415 hrs., THIS THURSDAY, 30 JUNE 2011 BOUND FOR SPRINGFIELD TO ATTEND THE EN BANC PAROLE HEARINGS OF VEAL AND KNIGHTS, KILLERS OF SGT. SEVERIN AND ANTHONY RIZZATO.
Sorry, for the ALL CAPS but emphasis is needed at this late notice for any available member to attend this hearing. No testimony is required. If possible, wear your uniform as a sign of support.
Hope to see you there.
WE WILL NEVER FORGET
May the bastard burn forever in HELL !!!!!
38 years of 3 squares a day and healthcare while the family endures 38 years of pain attending parole hearings and such.
Sick. Really sick.
Illinois is so broke they're going to start letting guys like this out.
I can't imagine the pain this family has been going thru since first being horribly victimized 38 years ago.
Parole hearings where incompetent patronage employees mis-pronounce the victims name and lose or forget the facts of the horrific crime or subject the family to any number of insults and indignities as a result of parole board and staff insensitivities and incompetence.
My g-d, may the family of this slain officer find peace at last!!

Which of course is totally ignored (the one man cars) today!
After having their father and husband taken from them, they are forced to endure a lifetime of torture at the hands of the judicial system. How can anyone think that is right? God bless your family.

I've been signing petitions to keep that scum in prison for 25 years. Mission accomplished, the shitbag died inside.
I knew and remember Officer Wenzel. He was a good man. May he rest in peace. I will never forget the nearly 100 Chicago Police Officers killed in the line of duty during my 34 years of service. I retired in 2002. I fully realize that I could have been one of those who did not make it home on any night that i went to work. We worked alone back then and had dash mounted radios that needed to be warmed up .God was truely looking down on me. I want to thank those that worked hard to bring the Police Memorial to realization and to Ald. Burke for publishing his book, " The End of Watch".
Peace to your Family.
God Bless you and your family
Thanks for the update and good news that the sob has died in prison , may his soul rot in hell
THANK GOD THE PARSITE IS DEAD. I WAS A POLICE CADET IN 1970, WHEN I HAD ACCIDENT ON LSD NB, YOURE DAD HANDLED THE JOB WHAT A NICE GUY, I AM NOW P.O. AND OFTEN THINK OF HIM WHEN I AM DRIVING, ON LAKESHORE DRIVING,I ALSO SAY A PRAY TO ST MICHAEL, FOR YOUR DAD.I AM FROM A LARGE POLICE FAMILY. MIKE T. 019DSK, 2 WATCH SOON TO RETIRE.I WILL CONTINUE THE SAME AS ABOVE.
Though mortally wounded, Bob Wenzel was able to return fire and cripple that bastard. I pray that he was in pain until his dying day and now is in hell.
I thought it was the murder of Officer Kenny Kaner on Union in Englewood that started it.
Your father was a lucky man to have such a loyal and loving family.
Officer Wenzel, gone, but always remembered and will NEVER be forgotten.
Amen.
The court that really counts is the one on Judgement Day. This murderer will get his true justice then. Best of luck to the family of the slain officer. I can't imagine the grief they have endured over the years knowing that their loved ones killer might one day win his freedom.
Rot in hell..scumbag!
(NYPD ret)
I was assigned to Area 6 traffic in 1973. Back then the traffic division handled all traffic accidents, patrol did not. I worked the 3 to 11 shift, Beat 9652(VASCAR) We were one man cars then. Robert Wenzel relieved me.
Thank God the killer has finally died. He was shot and paralized by Officer Wenzel. Officer Wenzel returned fired despite being shot in the face at least twice. After Wenzel's death, most traffic cars were made 2 man by supplementing with additional officers from the Patrol division. After a couple months, this was was stopped and those additionl patrol officers were returned to their units. Then Area 6 traffic manpower was actually cut in half. Later,Area 6 traffic was disbanded completely.
God Bless Officer Wenzel and his family.
Dennis Eichler retired 2003
This is welcome news. He can sit in the corner of hell reserved for cop killers.
God bless the Wenzel family and the wives who stood up for two man cars. And still the dept puts up one man cars on 3rd and 1st watch. Like the officer murdered in 019 by the crazy bus lady.
You do not have to work alone? Right FOP? Oh sorry. You guys are too busy planning the golf outing. Nevermind.
Retired now, but feeling sad for the CPD. Stay safe.
NEVER WORK 10-99, no matter what the fuck the Bosses want. Go home sick if necessary, but NEVER work 99, NEVER, not even once. The odds are to stacked against you working 99. Too hard to see everything going on around you.
REPEAT: NEVER,NEVER,NEVER,NEVER,EVER WORK
10-99.
The live you save WILL be your OWN.

June 19, 1970 PO Kenny KANER at 74th and Union (007)
January 13, 1973 PO Bob WENZEL at 1801 N. LSD (018)
Both murders occurred on midnights 2 1/2 years apart with shooters in custody at or near scenes and subsequently convicted. BOTH cop killings compelled the City to reinstate 2 officer cars during the hours of darkness.
However, as is their wont, the City reverted to many 10-99 units after "things cooled down" in both cases. It's but one facet of "the Chicago Way". How quickly they "forget".
Now if only double cop-killers Johnny VEAL and George Clifford KNIGHTS would die in agony in prison [SEVERIN-RIZZATO sniper ambush at 1150 N. Sedgwick on July 17, 1970]. See above 8:17 AM post.
Other unfinished business: Ex-Ald. John Rice, 36th Ward, received our request to rename the intersection of Palmer and Nordica in the 025 Dist. as Honorary P.O. GREGORY HAUSER and P.O. RAYMOND KILROY Way. No results. Spearheaded by the 25th Dist., perhaps the new alderman will have the intersection renamed in the memory of two great cops.
May God bless Kenny, Bob, Jim, Tony, Greg, Ray and all our other fallen heroes.

Really you use this post to mention the Ryan Family? This post is about a true hero and his family not one, in a long line of Political Scum from Il. Take your tears and go away.
Former 018, 1st watch (now thankfully out of Shitcago)
Rot In HELL
So glad your family will finally have some peace, God Bless. The Johnson family

As a retired Illinois State Police officer, I worked my entire career as a "10-99 unit". Straight out of the academy new troopers are itching to break loose from their FTO's so they can ride solo and do their own thing. After a short while you grow accustomed to being alone and even dislike when someone has to ride with you temporarily, like when their patrol car becomes disabled or something. You learn to listen to your radio closely so you know where the adjacent patrol car is and what he's doing and try to call in a good description and pick a relatively safe location to make the stop. But no matter what you do, the potential is always there for the shit to hit the fan. There have been a number of occasions when the "blue tornado" has come to our aid in the Chicago area, and we will forever be in your debt and at your service. Working alone, especially in a high crime big city like Chicago, is inherently dangerous. Thanks for always being there for us, cause the politicians who continue to allow manpower to dwindle to the point where officer safety is a real issue don't give a rat's ass about coppers, no matter what department they represent.

Many years later the same problem cost Richard Francis his life. It is sad we move one step forward and two steps back. When will we get leaders of this city and department who actually care about not just this city's safety, but ours. We have lost too many brothers and sisters in blue. God bless the families of all these heroes. May they someday all find peace.
I will never forget the nearly 100 Chicago Police Officers killed in the line of duty during my 34 years of service.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
100 divided by 34 =just short of 3 officers a year.
I retired in Sept 2010. In my 25+ years, 51 killed.
And people have the nerve to complain about our pensions.
Looked up that this prick was given 75-100 years. Fuck it. Why even give a number if the Widow has to BEG to leave him locked up?
God bless you Rose.
Prayers and good thoughts to the Wenzel family. I have been on the job for 26 yrs, so I did not know Officer Wenzel. I do know that it is a shame that this vermin got to live on the tax payers dollar all these years while the family had to suffer. Fighting to keep a killer in prison against a system twisted to free him. The poster who said the founding fathers did not intend things to be this way was exactly right. The concepts and priciples of this country have been totally corrupted, and there is a revolution coming, to bring back the ideals of the original American Revolution. But I am digressing...my thoughts are, God bless the family, and may Officer Wenzel finally rest in true peace.
Bob it is with great pleasure that I read the news today. Your father and mind (Kenneth Kaner) paid the ultimate price while riding in one man squad cars. My fathers killer still exsists and so do parole hearings since the early 80's. I know of the relief it must give you to know that their is no chance your father's killer will walk among us. My family still lives with this fear. It's a fucking shame history ( one man cars) repeats itself while Daley has a crew of body guards still protecting him. This city didn't deserve their blood.
KK
my name is Bob this article is about my father Bob Wenzel, i would like to thank all of you for your wonderful comments about him. please be safe all and again, thanks...
Good riddance.

Officers like Wenzel, Kaner and Rick Francis get killed working one man cars while Ed Burke and Richard M Daley are so very safe with their 24/7 CPD bodyguard detail.
Something is very wrong with this picture.
This morning, parole was again denied for double cop killers Johnny VEAL and George Clifford KNIGHTS.
Burn in Hell!

No the original poster was correct. It was after PO Wenzel's murder that the push began.
"Anonymous" at 9:20 PM
I beg your pardon? I didn't get your name?
"Area 6 Homicide" accurately sums it up at 4:31 PM. In the aftermath of the Kaner (and Wenzel) homicide, the City ordered that all cars citywide be manned by 2 officers during the hours of darkness; no 10-99 units.
I remember it well. I was there working 007 as a detective (old Area 3). I proudly looked on when the guys from 007 disobeyed direct orders from the street deputy and the Englewood commander by refusing to work 10-99 units the night after Kenny had his head blown off by a point-blank shotgun blast as he wrote up a report.
Within 24 hours, then Supt. James Conlisk ordered that during the hours of darkness (3rd and 1st watches), all citywide patrol vehicles would be deuce units.
After Officer Kaner was murdered, Englewood officers refused to work 1-man cars on the 3rd and 1st watches. The entire city then went to 2-man cars.
I believe one of the offenders in the Kaner incident was a police officers relative. Also didn't this cause the transfer of Mills to 10 and Flip Watson to 7?
I was in traffic court with Officer Wenzel the day before he was killed. We had a great 15 minute conversation and I departed. I was working the morning he was shot as an Evidence Technician. On City Wide 2 I heard the lookout sent and later the announcement of his death. It was a tour of duty that I will never forget.
