- Welcome to Chicago politics Mr. Superintendent, and you thought you were running this department. There was some truth to some of the rumors pertaining to the exempt movements that were supposed to happen on Friday. The deputy chief of Area 4 was going to Area 1 and the deputy chief of Area 1 was being demoted to Lieutenant. But the Superintendent forgot one thing, this isn’t New Jersey this is Chicago and in Chicago he isn’t as powerful as he thinks he is. Funny he really thought he was running this department. How quick one learns that it’s not the Superintendent but the politicians that are in charged, why do you think things are so screwed up.
So for those of you who don’t know what happened, it seems that someone (politicians) didn’t like the idea of demoting a black deputy chief in a predominantly black area and replacing him with a white deputy chief therefore the whole thing was put on hold.
Not surprising to long time Chicago watchers. Plus, if he has to keep Ernie and Tony around, you know he isn't the one making decisions. And when coppers see that, survival mode kicks in and everything else falls by the wayside.

The issue of reverends and aldercreatures who do not know their ass from a hole in the ground is noting new in either Chicago or the State of Illinois.
Until someone like Commander McCarthy has the guts to stand up to the situation will not change.
So, as a CITIZEN, a non-Police CITIZEN of Chicago who has worked for more than 30 years to assist those members of CPD who put their lives on the line every night to protect us, I strongly urge Commander McCarthy to TAKE A FIRM STAND on this issue and TAKE CONTROL OF HIS DEPARTMENT.
It is not only the respect of the men and women of the Chicago Police Department which is at stake here, it is the INTEGRITY of CHICAGO and our ability to protect ALL of the Citizens of Chicago while working with the most qualified individuals available to do those jobs.
It is time to set aside RACE, COLOR, and ETHNICITY and select the best person to do the job.
STAND UP AND EFFECT YOUR DECISION Superintendent McCarthy!
Your future as the Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, along with the respect of both the rank and file officers, and the respect of the Citizens of the City of Chicago, depends on your ability to RUN YOUR DEPARTMENT!

He'll learn what? To hide his true feelings and beliefs? It is too late. The man let us all know his exact view of the world during his display at St. Sabina. Why shouldn't we believe him? Take with a grain of salt anything you hear about a man's character, but believe it when it comes from his own lips.

Every superintendent that Daley appointed sold out to the mayor and the reverands and the political class, that is why the department is in such a mess. Will McCarthy be different ? Maybe, I still think too early to tell. Wait until the busy summer season is over, wait at least until the end of the year. Hilliard played the Daley game and look what it got him ? Huge govt. contracts for his security company and he appointed some of the most incompetent goofs in the history of the department. Maybe McCarthy did sell out. Maybe he would do anything to run the 2nd largest police department in the US. Maybe he will settle for only partial reform and eat some of the goofs appointed by Hilliard , Fat Phil and Weiss.I still say too early to tell.But, keep the pressure up. The city will be 600 million in the hole next year and will refuse to raise property taxes. That does not look good for any raise and it sure does not look good for the future of the pension fund.
Look for civil disorder to rise, especially when Obama is not re-elected. Arm up good citizens, and aim for center mass.

I am amazed that anyone would even suggest it could be any other way. The only hope is that the Rahmster is serious about changing things and that seems unlikely at best. The only change likely to happen is a change in who runs the group of thieves at the top of the Chicago political machine.
Dealing with the issues that face CPD means dealing with those same issues in the rest of City government and it just ain't gonna happen unless those at the top want it.
