Superbid Time

  • The Department has finally issued the much awaited "superbid" vacancies. This is the reward for these Officers who exhibited professionalism and a dedicated work ethic in areas that most Officers would prefer not to work. Please keep this in mind when the Department offers another opportunity to work in another non-bid unit. The risks definitely outweigh the rewards.

The only silver lining to this thunderhead is the fact that these officers are not locked into these districts. They will have the ability to bid out of these districts as early as September 15, 2011 if bids are available.

The Department intends to fill the following vacancies effective August 18, 2011.

    Dist ----- # of Vacancies
    003 ----- 28
    004 ----- 45
    005 ----- 73
    006 ----- 43
    007 ----- 56
Take a look at the 005 District number - 73 openings. That's exactly as many openings as were posted 29 July. We spoke with someone downtown and they claimed almost 1,200 PAR forms were filed this period, which means either no one bid for 005 or exactly the same number bid in as bid out. Makes you wonder about 005, doesn't it?

We're going to predict under 20 openings will be posted next period city-wide. The Area 2 manpower issue has been "solved" for the summer.

Anyone with half a brain could have seen the "setup" coming. MSF and TRU were small units. Then two years ago they started expanding and the perks were expanded too (physical training time, dry fire time and come late and leave early). The word spread among the young officers that MSF and TRU were the places to be. And most of those officers went for the bait and soon the mousetrap made a horrible noise and now they are stuck.

The department set them up pure and simple. No one was bidding to those south side districts and they resolved this pressing problem. In all reality these young officers will be stuck there for a long, long time.

I didn't know C Dub went back to 005. That's probably why there are soo many openings.

As long as we are on the topic of C.W. Any old timers here know the real story about her? I've got 10 yrs on and it was before my time. All's I know is she wore a wire for the Feds and tricked on her 002 district tac team putting some of her fellow p.o.'s away, while she was doing the same shit as them. Then the department promotes her ass to CAPT because of that? What a joke.

off topic, the civil lawyers are already taking advantage of the disbanded units. A couple of lawsuits were filed today which has the common quotes of "the now disbanded mobile strike force" or another one I read said, "the now disbanded Targeted response Unit".. what a joke. In the lawsuits make the accusation that an "underlying" reason the units were disbanded was because of more rampant behavior by officers and of course the comparison to SOS was made in the suit. And then the suit goes on to say how the choir boys who were arrested and beaten by the officers of msf tru etc were just stormtroopers assigned to these units. What a joke. We know why these units were disbanded and it had nothing to do with discipline or bad behavior. These lawyers will stoop to anything to make thier case look good and sound dramatic. 5 suits filed today from arrestees who beat their case. All are brutality beefs, three from MSF and two for TRU. The suits were filed by three different law firms... what a bunch of bloodsuckers. Is this just the beginning of more suits to come by taking advantage of the disbanded units? to the officers of MSF and Tru, hopefully your paper was complete and well written because Ive got a feeling if it wasnt these lawyers are looking at every single case that is still within the statute of limitations(two years). either way, its all bullsh*t!

No,I really don't think so. I think it's because the scumbag lawyers read that Rahm stopped outsourcing these cases and that the Corp. Counsel will resume settling them without going to trial. Easy money, that's all that it is about.

Hey FOP, from a district officer who has alwys worked these areas where most Officers would prefer not to work, FUCK YOU.

I, along with thousands other officers have always worked in patrol and have always worked in the areas you says others prefer not to work, where is my superbid for a reward for working in these areas?

I am sick and tired of the TRU/MSF people complaining about volunteering to work in these areas and not getting rewarded for it. When will the PO's who are assigned to these districts going to get rewarded. We are the one's running from job to job, getting personals denied, getting lunches denied, get days of denied while for years TRU/MSF officers worked a 10 hours schedules with 2 hour lunches anywhere, early ducks, not radio jobs, training that district law enforcement is denied, etc.

How does one know if they work in a shity district? ???? Look at the number of bid openings. Doesn't necessarily mean bad officers or bosses but maybe the police hating non taxpaying citizens in crime ridden districts along with the bs law suits and the catch and release court system can have something to do with it. Now if one wants to throw in bosses on getting numbers, denying time, and have a majority of dog asses. What you get is one burnt out p.o. in a really quick time that may turn into a dog ass themselves if they cant bid out before its to late. And then the process may repeat. Also what's the sense of trying to bid to one shit district to another its going to be the same. The only bright side is that you already know the ins and outs of your shit district and don't have to relearn another shithole. If you seen one shithole you seen them all. Im just saying.

All you guys who are ending up with crappy bids, just take it easy. One of the first things you have to accept on this job is nothing lasts forever! You will be out of there eventually. Make the best of it, otherwise time will drag...and drag...and drag.

As I look back on my career, I wish I would not have reacted to some of the changes so ballistically.

Enjoy your life. If you have a long-ass haul to work, look in books on tape. It'll make the time go--even if you're not a fan, at least try it.

Good luck to all of you. Unlike a lot of others on here, I don't want to see fellow officers suffer. Consider this a lesson learned--no security into units that are volunteer--hopefully you won't make the same mistake again.

Good luck and I hope you all land on your feet and end up having some fun while you're in the foxholes.

Alert issued for elderly man with Alzheimer's

3:40 a.m. CDT, August 5, 2011

"Chicago police early this morning issued a missing persons alert for an 86-year-old South Side man with Alzheimer's disease.

"Harry Brown was last seen at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday walking east on 80th Street from Fairfield Avenue.

"He was wearing a light tan baseball cap with "Mass Mutual" on the front, a beige zip-up sweater, light tan linen pants and brown and green moccasins.

"He is 5-foot-11 and 110 pounds with brown eyes, brownish gray hair and a light black complexion. He has a close-cropped haircut, and some stubble as well as freckles on his face.

"He is known to frequent the area of the 10800 block of South Rhodes Avenue where he recently lived. He now lives in the 7900 block of South Fairfield."

Help the guy out, huh? The healthy are eaten alive in such areas, never mind the elderly and disabled.

Don't agree with the above statements. They did not deserve what happen to them. I do agree with they knew it could happen to them. I hope this teaches everyone to never leave a bid spot for a non bid spot again. I am sure there will still be them ego maniacs that feel the need to allow the department to get around the contract. Everyone is always saying get out of patrol as fast as you can. The truth is, if everyone stayed in patrol and stopped jumping ship the department would be forced to fix patrol and follow the contract. Until every cop sticks together and stops allowing the city to get around the contract this job will continue to decline. No matter how much you love yourself try to fight the ego urge and stay put in patrol until the department fixes the problems. The old saying get out of patrol as soon as you can was created by the city and the shifty management skills they have perfected. No matter how much a boss promises you do not fall for the bait. Stay put in patrol even if you are in a shit district. Force the department to fix the problems and they will eventually have to offer openings.

Most of the bosses are awful. (Command staff? Yeah, they have to "command" because there's no one who would follow these "leaders" willingly.) Many of the POs are dog-asses (I didn't say all....just many), which makes the workers throw up their hands, shake their heads, and try to get the work done anyhow. And the communities in these districts....well, for the most part, they don't give a damn about life in general, law and order in specific.

I recall one district who had an ass for a WC on 1st watch.

most of the pos , not all, checked all equipment, primarily beat cars, for safety violations and new dents / scratches etc.
They filled out the vehicle damage reports or requested pools till drivable one were found.

This was in the fall of an A/2 district.

The WC was moved. Took 2 periods.
This was the first and last time any organized, team effort, was used to support one another against a bad boss.

The huge Lollapallooza concert will pay no taxes. Seems the mayor's talent agent brother has a big interest in that operation so naturally the taxpayers get fucked, as usual. Meet the new mayor, same as the old mayor!

Sure it sucks, but you can not have your cake and eat it too. People left for these uniuts leaving them empty. They had a good run, now its over. Whether you are assigned to OCD, or 35th, when its done you are sent anywhere. That is the gamble. They got screwed no more than the next guy. Bu dont worry, your fearless leaders will land on their feet.

Are you kidding?? She was a visiting w/c I'm our district and I had to handle a department crash. I reminded the officers to Anov the other driver and when I presented the pack to her she questioned as to why this citizen had to get an anov. I stated that it is in the order to do so, she made me go print out the order and show her.. This is her knowing her shit??

You volunteer to go someplace, then be ready for shit to change. People are bounced out of decent units all the time. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Who gives a shit where they send you. So you have to work a little and lose the perks of 2 hour lunches and early outs. But the 1st and 16th are the only thing that matter. Other than that, send me any damn where you want. I ain't going to bitch or moan. You send me somewhere I will just do the job. If something else comes along so be it. If not, no sweat. BTW you can use the black uniforms for painting or changing your oil. They won't go to waste. You are just pissed because you can't dress like a ninja anymore.

You are all bitching about working in a shitty district. What district isn't shitty. If you work in a district like 008 or 016, there are decent parts, but you spend most of the time handling the jobs in the shit areas. So whats the difference. I worked the ghetto districts and the decent district. I will take the ghetto districts anyday. The cops you work with are all ass busters who cover each other's back. When all hell breaks loose the calvary is right there for you.

WRONG! I work special employment once a month in 005, always bring in activity and this guy has a hard on for the people who work special. He micromanages and assumes every cop who works special is a dogass. Sergeant Smith is his hatchet man and they treat people like crap, whether or not you bring in activity. Also, I had heard from other people that both he and Jones keep a record of who brings in nothing at the end of the night, but didn't believe they had the audacity to actually keep a paper log, which I actually saw one night. It was on a clipboard and had a heading of "Negative Activity" on top and several officers names scrawled below which I could not get close enough to read. When I saw this, I couldn't believe it was for real. Shouldn't this be some kind of union grievance? No wonder no one wants to go to 005, between O'Donnell, Jones, and Smith, they all treat people like crap, I feel sorry for the people who have to work there.

I don't understand the fuss...if these officers are such "hard charges" then they should enjoy working in 005 or 006. The real work begins when they get to their new districts. Welcome to handling jobs on midnights officers...

Why is fop saying this was a no bid spot? These were bid spots, which is why the officers can't just go back to their original units of assignment?

No they were not bid spots, you went on a phone call or you sent a resume. You never filled out a par form. You may have been detailed for 90 days, but after that 90 days you gave them permission to assign you to this unit. None of these units were bid spots. Remember they can detail you any where for 90 days, they can only keep you there after 90 days if you volunteer. That is what happened. They bs'd all of you by saying you are detailed for 90 days. You all fell hook line and sinker for the old smoke and mirror the city of chicago is so famous for. After the 90 day detail the department permanently assigned you to this unit. You allowed them to do that because you did not request to go back to your original unit. They bs'd you by calling you an elite unit, and allowing you to work out on company time, sent you for some training, etc. So, you got comfortable and allowed them to take advantage of you. It happens, but I hope all of you have learned a valuable lesson. Never do any thing to help this city deviate from the FOP contract. The only thing the FOP failed to do was to warn you about what the city will do to you. This should have been brought to your attention prior to the 90th day of the original detail.

I did five years in a district. Then I did eight years in TRU. Had a blast. Detailed to a southside district for 90 days. Now I get to go right back where I came from cause I made it by bid. I would do it all over again. Dont hate.

The above poster is the exact reason why this department is so deep in shit. Great you had a good run, but the entire time you allowed the city to deviate from the contract by volunteering for the unit. So the rest of the department got shit on so you could have a good run and end up exactly where you started. Sounds like your going backwards to me. If all you special unit people would have stayed put in your original districts or stayed in a bid spot, the department would not have been able to run around the contract for 8 years during your good run. Not hating my friend, you just sound a little on the selfish side. Remember there is power in numbers, and until the blue shirts realize this and begin sticking together, nothing will ever change for the better.

Hate to bust your bubble blowhard, the elitist bullshit these type of units foster & the individuals who think they're somehow better than the POs assigned to the Districts is the root cause of this type of divisiveness

The above post is totally true. But, the reason these type of units get people to believe this shit is because that is how the management fills these spots. They totally bs the po's and get them to believe they are the best of the best. Also, I have been on 15 years and since I was in the academy every one always said get out of patrol as fast as you can. So, from the beginning you are being spoon fed on how shitty patrol is and how great a unit is. This is managements smoke and mirrors to get po's to attract to these units so the city can beat the contract. Until every po begins to stay put in bid spots and stops falling for the management bs of how great you are if you are in a unit, nothing will change. Things will stay the same.

The elitist bullshit just doesn't happen in units, I have seen many po's that think there shit doesn't stink because they spent thier whole career in the ghetto.
I will say on average the units ego problem seems to be much bigger, but when it comes down to it, I don't care if you deliver the mail or work a foot post on 63rd and Ashland, as long as you come when we call for help, you are ok with me.

To the one person who writes the officers in units think they are better than everyone else obviously you didn't personally know any of them because that's so far from the truth.

Maybe some day you will be in a unit that you probably have applied to.....
