Look! Money!

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced a plan to improve access to the Chicago River by building four boathouses on stretches of the waterway that already draw scores of kayakers and other paddlers.

The city will spend equal shares of public funds and private donations to build the structures, estimated to cost $4 million each.
It sure seems that as fast as Rahm is making cuts in one area, he's spending the "savings" even quicker instead of paying off debt and long term liabilities.

Why is anyone surprised? Paying off debt and long term liabilities are what our future paychecks are for. Preserving and extending 'The Magic Kingdom' along the lake front is what Rahm promised in his campaign and he is keeping his promise.

After that gushing "Friends of the Chicago River" lady I saw on the news today -- not to mention that huge battleaxe of an EPA administrator, the one twice the bulk of Rahm, with the size 16 pumps -- I'm coming down squarely for the homeless.

Where can I get me a Streetwise?

Shouldn't the police budget be cut and paid for before we go spending millions on fucking kayakers!

You don't understand SCC the mayor has to keep feeding millions of our tax dollars to connected contractors so he can fill his war chest for his next run for office. For every tax dollar spent on these worthless projects some of that money goes back to politicians as "donations". Can't get elected or reelected unless you have satchels full of cash to run a campaign. The proposed park in Rosehill cemetery is another example. Who gets the contracts for that one? They don't look in the Yellow Pages.

OT - Elected officials AGAIN ignore federal laws

Cook County Votes To Free Immigrant Inmates Wanted By Feds

Before Wednesday, a federal mandate required the Cook County Jail to hold inmates suspected of immigration violations for two days longer, even in misdemeanor cases such as traffic violations and minor drug arrests. The criminal cases are then turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which decides whether or not to deport the immigrants.

The ordinance, a version of which was originally drafted by County Board Commissioner Jesús García earlier in the summer, was created in response to a federal ruling in Indiana, where a judge determined that ICE detainers are not mandatory, and counties can opt out at their will.

It's good SCC--the city won't be able to cry poor when contract negotiations come around.

Why isn't the media asking him some tough questions? If he closes police stations to save $2 million bucks to build boat houses, WTF???

Actually, WTF? WTF?

I hope someone is keeping track of this Democratic Math. First Responders are the fall guys in this scam. This is by design, we can't strike, we get no sympathy in the media and when we die, it makes for good TV with the weepy eyed Mayor at our funerals. Daley did it for years and Rahm is trading the safety of the public and our lives, to fund boathouses and the Office of New Immigrants etc by diverting our budgeted dollars into the General Fund. Disgusting!

He learned it from Dirty Little Richie: the public likes pretty baubles. Boat houses on the stinkin' Chicago River? Sure! Planters in the middle of god-forsaken industrial streets? Excellent!

Screw the bread, the voters love thier circuses! Suckers.

There's always money for the Peter Pan's in yuppy-ville to underwrite their perpetual adolescent lifestyle.

Sports, boats, running, jumping, bicycles ad nauseum.......

When their knees are fucked at 50, they should pay for their replacements and other sports related bullshit injuries themselves. Maybe Rahmbo can get them a deal with a wellness coach.

What the f__k is U.S. Federal law worth if any gerrymandered-up "Hispanic" power base in any county can just ignore it?

Who runs America? America, or Mexico?

Oh -- they announced a 24-hour "anti-deportation hotline" service here yesterday...

I admit, I'm a liberal, but this plan to build boathouses is ridiculous, stupid and wasteful. Do we really need TWO of these boat houses on the north side and TWO more on the south side? Ping Tom Park is a 6 minute drive from 28th and Eleanor. River Park and Clark Park (which already has a perfectly fine private kayak rental business) are 8 minutes apart. What a joke and a sad waste. We don't need even one of these. I bet you could clean up a lot of mold with $16M.

I can stop this overnight. No cooperation with the federal government? No grants of federal funding.

Federal money is an addictive drug, a corrosive poison that no state can leave alone.

When confronted with a choice between a few floor-scrubbers and tire-changers and old-mattress pickers, and a architect's conception showing "bird sanctuaries" and "boathouses" for their gleaming fantasy city, my guess is that they'll come around.

"Dispensable" is the word I'm looking for.

You'll see how much they care about "diversity" when they have to somehow pay for it by themselves.

How about building dance and ballet studios in every Ghetto neighborhood. Teach the Gangbangers the art of ballet and maybe the cha cha cha. I would guess about $100 million in TIF funds would do the job. Dancing is good. Look what it did for Rahm.

I work on the river , it's bad enough right now. Most Kayakers have no idea what they are doing. Night time fireworks during the summer is the worst a lot of them have poor lights or nothing at all.

I've come close to hitting a few of them cause they are so hard to see. Just a matter of time before a tour boat hits a kayaker
