    Our pensions are under attack!!!!!
And again:

I just signed up to go with the FOP to Springfield by bus. The FOP has chartered three buses, as of 1530 hours on Friday only 17 PO's have signed up to go! ONLY 17!

Don't go cussing out Shields and the FOP if you don't get on that bus, be at FOP Hall at 0730 hours on Wednesday, 26 Oct 2011
Apathy is our enemy here. Get involved, make some calls, write some letters, take a bus ride.

CPD can't fill 3 buses , get enough signatures on a petition to reduce alderman , afraid to write tickets around aldercreatures offices that want to take away benefits , around churches on sunday etc . That's why next contract Rahm will stick it to us.
20% od CPD do all the work and most are on tactical teams or in specialized units . The rest could be replaced with civilian community service officers to complete case reports and issue tickets .

Better get on Board people, if U don't think these Illinois Politicians would LOVE to steal your pensions, you are sadly mistaken. They ONLY understand numbers, so if only a few show up, there is NO strength shown to them, and the issue becomes a Big Target for them to weasel their way into, and Loot till Dry.

Wow three buses eh? That would support about 180 people. The Springfield mayor must be licking his chops at the revenue generation opportunity. What are we talking about here $90,000 in fines the mayor can hope to collect at $500/head? They only to need to find an ordinance to charge you all under.

Is Springfield like Chicago do you know? I mean where freedom of speech and the right to free assembly is only allowed from 6am to 11pm?

Yeah I'm trollin'...

Because people don't give a sh1t until it hits home and their families are directly involved -- then it's too late and I'm not sure we are there yet. Let someone else do it..

Now is not the time to be passive. Everyone needs to become active and aggressive in achieving the goals of the membership. FOP IS AS STRONG AS ITS' MEMBERSHIP. It is not one individual but all of us collectively. Get on the bus. Support the legal actions we as police officers can take. Talk is cheap, now is the time to stand up and be counted. The politicians are counting on us to be passive and they will have their way with our pensions. Show them we are not a bunch of punks that will sit back and let them do as they please. It is your moneythey are trying to take away from you and your family. IT IS AN OLD SAYING BUT VERY TRUE "STAND UP AND BE COUNTED" GET INVOLVED AND SIGN UP FOR THE SPRINGFIELD PROTEST.

There are some wedsites that will send a stock non-threatening email to Senator Tom Cross of Oswego, and will calculate and send emails to your State Senatora and Rep.

I disgarded the stock email and send this one:

This is a THIRD RAIL ISSUE.
You and Rahm have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve.

(Cross sends the following when someone sends him an email on this)
“These pension funds are made up of a majority of taxpayer money, which is why it is so important that an accountable and appointed board be assembled to represent taxpayer interests.”

Once the money is in the Pension fund it belongs to the present and future pensioners. Not to the mayor and his cohorts to as their personal piggy bank. And has the past and present mayors contributed the proper amounts due to these funds.

Remember what happened to Dan Rostenkowski, that arrogant SOB slashed the Social Security Benefits earned by government
employees. He was chased out of meetings by angry seniors. He was surrounded by government employees and thought no one would blow the whistle on his dirty little scam with the Congressional Post Office and went to jail.

Again, this is a Third Rail Issue.

---------------------------------

Now I make this suggestion to the FOP and PB&PA:

Make a lot of noise down in Springfield but don’t go down there to just say “”NO! WE DON’T WANT THIS!”

From what I understand, and I do not know every thing about it
the New York City Police Department Pension System is in a lot better shape than ours.

It is funded 69% while ours is only 40%.All of their board members are police and all are elected by police offices and pensioners.

If we go down there and just say NO to this Cross bill the best we could do is maintain the status quo.

Well the status quo is not that great. Look at what Daley and his band of thieves have done in the past with the system the way it is. Remember when Daley wanted and got us to forgive a $25 million debt owed our Pension Fund, of our tax money to adjust the post 20 year of employment formula. Our biggest problem with this fund is the city does not pay it's bills and get to steal from the fund through bad deals they couldn't
put through anywhere else.

I suggest that we have our FOP and PB&PA lawyers quickly look at the NYPD plan and rewrite it for us.

Then go down to Springfield and say we don’t want the Cross plan we want this.It is based on the premisethat once the city pays it pension obligation it has no more right to that money just like when it pays any other bill.

Then we deliver the draft of this bill to our State Senators and Representatives in Springfield with a real stern warning about who they really work for.

Rahm will pressure them to ignore it and go for the Cross bill. But the fact that we stated we really want something else and that the real question,” Whose Money Is It?” may eventually have to be answered in court.

If we get this question into a Federal Court, outside of Cook County we probably could win
such a case. But we need to ask for something that removes the city’s influence from our control over our money PERIOD.

P.S. to the above. This Tom Cross bill would hand over control of the Pension Fund to Rahm Emanuel as Mayor of Chicago. Now who in their right mind would want him in their pocket?

There are thousands of men and women who after years of honorable service to the citizens of Chicago rely on their personal investment in that pension fund for their income. Many of those people no longer live in the city of Chicago and therefore can no longer vote for Mayor of Chicago who has all that power over their income and investments. Is this not an issue like “No Taxation Without Representation”?

All of the members of the pension board should be voted on by the present and future retirees.

What jury outside of Cook County wouldn't side with that, but we need to go on record asking for it.

The battle Cry fo this should be, "IT'S OUR MONEY!"

A book that exposes the radical nexus behind "Occupy Wall Street" is set to officially launch next week at the movement's downtown Manhattan park headquarters, WND has learned.

Red Army: The Radical Network that must be defeated to save America" exposes the extremists behind Occupy Wall Street along with the radical socialist network that seized political power in Washington over decades, shaped Obama's presidential agenda and threatens the very future of the U.S.

"Red Army" documents how these radical groups are working to spread America's wealth and transform the country into their vision of a socialist utopia.

OT:
Just finished reading an article on the Sun-Times online covering the police brutality march downtown today and was shocked!
First of all there were only 25 marchers in this group, they were at the State Building and due to their pathetic turnout they joined up with the Occupy Chicago group (most of whom didn't accept this merge). Still the Sun Times covers this group of 25 instead of OC whose numbers were near 1000...
However, the shocking part is that 8/8 comments were pro-police. Being the Sun-Times I expected tons of their anti-police rats bashing us but instead they suggested this group go and march against the gangs. Was a small but nice surprise.

Why is it that the judges are not getting their pensions fucked with????? They are government employees too.

Very simply, if the unions took these pension issues to court, the judges would certainly agree with them because judicial pensions would also be involved. No judge would ever rule that his pension should be diminished. Therefore, you would expect the judges to give unions a favorable ruling.

Now, with judges exempt from their pensions being reduced, they can rule on ours. The politicians in Springfield and Chicago will certainly tell them that they were excluded, and therefore, rule on behalf of the politicians.

Rahm and Madigan are two of the most deceitful and dishonest politicians I have ever seen.

They are trying to take control of the money WE put in for OUR pensions, get it?

Rep Tom Cross (nexis:law firm business w/ Chicago) and Darlene Sengrin (SP? don't have my notes, nexis:tens of thousands in campaign aid from Cross - bought and paid for) are Reps from Oswego and Naperville.

They, under the guise of reform and preventing double dipping (which is fine if they left it like that - but that's the smoke and mirror part) slipped in a little paragraph that lets the Mayor take full control of OUR pensions. This paragraph allows the Mayor 4 picks on the board to our three ELECTED picks. In short, the Mayor wins every time.

Does that explain it?

To all required to have your gas mask downtown check the filter to see when it expired. Most have expired and the city does not have any new ones. The expired ones won't work.
--------------------
Just plain false. As a practical matter, they will last indefinitely if the filter remains in its sealed pouch.

The expiration date is like the expiration date on a car seat or most drugs. It is required for liability reduction purposes, but as a practical matter does not always mean all that much.

It is true that over very long periods (like multiple decades) of time the filter can become somewhat degraded for various reasons, but it will still work. In any case, for the few minutes of use they are typically needed, it does not matter all that much.

PS - I am not a cop but have a fair amount of knowledge in this area with far worse things than tear gas. Things like chlorine gas and hydrogen sulfide, things that will actually kill you in a few minutes of exposure. Tear gas is just a nuisance by comparison.

One thing you might want to seriously consider though. Even with masks it is not all that unusual to get a whiff of something nasty. If you wear contact lens, you probably will want to make sure that if you might need the mask that you make sure you have the lens inserts in the mask with your current prescription. And don't be wearing your contact lenses when there is any chance of tear gas, pepper spray, or mace being used.

would someone tell me what the fop alternative is to pension reform? it has to happen if it doesnt it will be insolvent in our lifetimes.

10/22/2011 12:30:00 PM<<<

It was suggested that instead of 4 appointed by Rahm and 3 elected by us we draft our own statute and present it where ALL members are elected by us. This is how NYPD and many other departments manage their pension funds.

Once the city pays its debt to the pension fund it is no longer the city's money. Rahm want to be able to call it back in no interest loans and bad deals no bank would touch with a ten foot pole.

Why should Rahm have any say at all in our pension fund. We should just get good financial managers and stay away from bad deals like what will come from the city when G-8 and NATO bills come due.

We should offer an alternative statute so if this gets into a court battle at some time we can say what we want. Otherwise the best we could do is to maintain the status quo and as you know under the Daleys we haven't done too well with that. An all elected board by the current and future retirees who have a stake in this fund are the only ones who should have a say on who is in that board.

Stay safe, the battle cry for this action should be, IT'S OUR MONEY!

employees. He was chased out of meetings by angry seniors. He was surrounded by government employees and thought no one would blow the whistle on his dirty little scam with the Congressional Post Office and went to jail.

Obama, Durban and Hilary Clinton as senator all signed on years ago to legislation which would restore the Social Security bebefits we EARNED. But this was just an empty shell of a law that never went anywhere.

That's why it's important to not loose hard won benefits in the first place.

P.S. That SOB Rosti still collected his full congressional pension even while he was in Club Fed.

About a year or so ago, a bill was signed into law that required municipalities to begin making large contributions to underfunded pensions in order to bring the funding level of these pension funds up and reverse the downward trend the funds were on. The city would be on the hook for hundreds of millions in higher contributions as a result of this law which was to commence around 2015. However, there was a provision included in this law which allowed the individual pension boards to vote to opt out of this requirement. This now brings us to this latest bill introduced by Tom Cross which affects only the pension boards here in Chicago and Cook County. By giving the majority on the boards to the appointees of 9.5 and Preckwinkle, the question is how do you think the boards would vote on whether or not to let the individual pension funds opt out of the requirement for the additional funding? I believe we already know the answer to that question if it should come to pass. Call your representatives and let them know your view on this issue before its too late!

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to those you stop with the last name of BEY.
This is a common name used by Moors as a code word and catch phrase.
They are very quietly operating in these impoverished districts. We uncovered and shut one down(David Ali/Farr) in 019 a year or so back. They claim diplomatic immunity from US laws including DL,ID or registrations and have a very smooth line. GIU and OCD are also aware of this but keep alert at the street level to the red flags that pop on these people.

To the people who have court, are single parents or have any other bullshit excuses why they can't go to Springfield:
If you needed to refinance your home and this was the only date available you would find a way to get there as it was saving you money, but you can't find your way to Springfield to preserve your life savings, brilliant. The quote should be re-written that for every 100 Chicago Police Officers, there are 90 that don't give a fuck, 8 that will come up with any excuse not to go to the fight and 2who live for the fight and will fight to the end. So until we start getting more than 200 members out of 10000 at the FOP meetings nothing will change. Coppers will continue to talk tough and critisize the FOP and bitch about losing benefits but will not get any skin in the game by getting involved and Rahm knows it. He's counting on you to continue to be the lazy, do nothing loud mouth, to busy to get involved, to important to get involved person that you are and he will bend you over and stick it in you big bad ass. An Illinois politician says this!?

How many double dippers are there?

Military pension and police pension?

Police pension and teacher pension?

Police pension and NABET/CWA pension?

As far as I am concerned if you paid your dues, like Social Security, if you earned it, it is yours.

To Mr Cross and Darlene J. Senger.
The fact is that all of the money going into police and fire pension plans belongs to the workers because it is part of the compensation of the workers. The fact is that the Police and Fire unions negotiate their total compensation, which they then divvy up between cash wages, paid vacations, health insurance and, yes, pensions. Since the Chicago police and fire collectively bargained for their compensation, all of the compensation they have bargained for is part of their pay and thus only the workers contribute to the pension plan. This is an indisputable fact. So when you start talking about transparency for the taxpayers Mr Cross and talk about "These pension funds are made up of a majority of taxpayer money" you are absolutely incorrect, these funds are our money the majority 66% is deferred compensation or pay and 33% is our contribution. Maybe you should have considered introducing legislation that calls for an elected position of Inspector General for Chicago and also an elected inspector general for Cook County. Someone that would be allowed to hire their own staff of secretaries and investigators who would have subpoena powers, powers of arrest and be able to investigate any corruption period. Then you would be thinking of the taxpayers jerkoff.

Then you would be thinking of the taxpayers jerkoff. The Chicago Police pension fund formerly known as “Policemen's Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago” has had 4 Mayoral appointees and 4 elected members that are annuitants since its inception. It has been plagued by bad investments that were tied to politically connected firms who have lost our entire investment or performed below the average of the rest of the money managers while collecting the same fees as the better performing funds. All influenced by former mayors. We don’t want any political influence regarding our money like one of the Mayors current appointees Stephanie Neely who voted to hire a fund who made campaign donations to her while running for Treasure of the City of Chicago or Vanecko, the mayors nephew, who lost our entire investment and also victimized other city of Chicago pension funds. We have 2 active police officers for every retiree and our fund is 40% funded. New York’s Police pension fund is 69% funded and it only has 1.2 active officers for every retiree. How you ask? Their pension board consists of 8 annuitants and 4 Mayoral appointees. People who are the owners tend to watch over their money a little better than someone who views other people’s money as a vehicle to reward their friends. Our current mayor is hell bent on destroying our pension fund and your legislation is proof positive that this ruthless bastard will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals. Now we know your real colors and I will personally work to see that you are defeated is your next election.

of course our pension fund is fucked!
We are short over 1000 officers THAT SOULD BE PAYING INTO OUR PENSION FUND.
The city RARELY IF EVER makes its payments into the pension fund.
The city and the Union made a deal several years ago to allow us to retire 4 years earlier, with the same benefits, if WE forgave the city for the XX millions that they owed the UNDERFUNDED pension. WHO DID THE FUCKING MATH ON THAT DEAL?

The city still collects tax revenue for those officers it refuses to hire. How about the CITY, at the very least, make the necessary pension contributions for those "ghost" officers, that our pension depends on. The city still comes our well ahead.
How about the city put some of that "medical insurance rebate" money towards our pension (thats the 20-30 percent kick-back the city gets from BCBS every year, as a "bulk discount" based on our numbers).
The city wants our "duty availibility" check...fine, take it, MATCH IT, and PUT ALL OF THOSE MONIES INTO OUR PENSION FUND, until it is fully funded, then give it back. I would be willing to do that, for me, those who have gone before me, and those who will follow me. (and kill the rule about our not being allowed to be intoxicated off-duty, because I wont be "on-call").

The bill authored by Rep. Cross from Oswego is nothing more than an attempt to circumvent the law that was passed by the legislature in Springfield forcing the city to live up to its obligations and bring the Chicago Police Pension Fund up to 90% in 30 years. Since its passage the city has introduced several bills attempting to water the bill down by extending the 90% target date to 50 years and failing in that attempt 40 years. Some of the citys legal minds have found a loophole that renders the law ineffective if the pension board does not request that the citys sales tax revenue be witheld if the city does not provide the funding that an appointed pension actuary says is necessary to reach that 90% funding level.
Rep. Cross who's district is in Kendall and Will County has no Fire and Police agencys in his district that will be effected by this bill (HB 3827), yet he had chosen to champion this cause. He claims that it would be in the best interest of the Police Pension to have the Mayor of Chicago be in control of how our funds are invested.... Has he never heard of the former Mayor's Nephew by the Name of Vaneko. All the Mayor's appointed Trustee's voted to give the Mayor's Nephew over 15 million which is now lost.
Over all the city pension fund I believe the mayor's Nephew got over 62 million which again was soon lost. Is Rep. too young to remember former Mayor Harold Washington's attempt to use the Police and Fire Pension funds to fund low income housing. Does anyone doubt what a financial disaster that would have been ?
If the Mayor had a permanent 4-3 majority that would have been passed and our fund would be in even more trouble. Rep. Cross wants you to give control he says to the Mayor who will better invest our funds, this being the same Mayor who has such a short memory that he can't even remember his involvement, as President O'Bama's Chief of Staff, in the disasterous Cylindra scandel that cost the American Taxpayers over 500 million ! yes Rep. Cross this is the man that needs to be in charge of our Pension Funds.
Who are you kidding Rep. Cross from Oswego. I am sure down the road we will find out what kind of deal has been struck between you the republican House Leader and our new Mayor, O'Bama's former Chief of staff. How does the republican National committee feel about yor cozy deal with Rahm ?
FOP members politicians only fear
our votes. We must show them that we are a force (voting Block) to be
reconed with. I can not stress the importance of defeating this bill.
This bill will influence many things including future cost of living increases. If there is any way that you can get on these busses down to Springfield to show
our strength I urge you to do so, even if you have to miss a day of work on your side job or a Dr. appointment etc. If not instead of showing these politicians our strength we show them our weakness.
To make it as convenient as we can to get you to come out and stand with us, we have arrainged to have a bus leave from the 22nd District at 8:00 am.
Please call FOP at 312 733-7776

They vote themselves sweet bumps, increases and flit from elected post to elected post getting two and three six figure pensions while inflaming sentiment against "greedy union members & their fat pensions." (the new political buzz words of the 2010's)

Perhaps we desperately need a Quaddafi type "Arab Spring" incident here since the criminal-political class thinks it's cute and funny to STEAL FROM POLICEMEN!

Perhaps they count on The Policeman's love of order and "playing by the rules" to serve as a buffer between them and true justice?
