New Calendars Out

  • Not too surprisingly Department Notice D11-14 was issued by the Department today without the Lodge being informed by the Management and Labor Affairs Section. This notice eliminates full 5th period and split 5B furlough selections for 2012.

A class action grievance was immediately filed by the Lodge on behalf of any and all members affected by the Department's arbitrary actions.

Any member who wishes to take a full 5th period furlough or split 5B furlough should indicate this on their 2012 furlough selection form.
If you want a 5B or 5 Full segment, bid for it. And expedited grievance process might just pay dividends. Look what happened to Rahm yesterday:
  • A state labor relations board sided with the Chicago Teachers Union today, asking the state attorney general’s office to seek an injunction to keep more of Chicago public schools from lengthening their days.

[...] The union’s legal victory, while not unexpected, seemed to rankle attorneys for CPS, who said the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board already had decided the case before the two sides presented oral arguments at a public hearing Thursday.

“It appears to me that the labor board had made up its mind before we came here. I think that’s extremely distressing,” said James Franczek, lead attorney for CPS’ Board of Education.
The labor board didn't "[make] up its mind...." The labor board enforced existing rules to a mayor who seems to treat signed and negotiated contracts as so much toilet paper, and the fact remains that the G-8 and NATO summits are not emergency situations if they are planned months in advance and they are here at the invitation of city officials.

so how much do I stand to gain for being denied a 5B furlo and being made to come to work? Double time and a half? What about working past my normal 8.5 hours on any given day? Would that be triple time for any extension of tour then? And then theres always the possibility of the wronged party being awarded hours on the books in addition to OT rates. Anyone know what we might be looking at if we win this grievance? Cuz my broke ass is filling every box on that furlo form with 5B if its gonna make me money. Sorry, Hairgels, us dinosaurs are gonna take all this money, too. Enjoy your 2A/2B split and the frontlines of the G8.

Have the union leaders been sold out and are now a part of the corporate funded political apparatus?

How are we going to compete with the tens of thousands of dollars that the politicians are getting from corporations to fund there campaign war chest.

Surely the attention and interest of the political leaders go towards the businesses making the "campaign contributions" and they can out fund us every time!

The mayor will tread lightly and keep his playing cards close to his chest until after the G-8.

He's done with you then.

I wouldn't be signing any large purchase agreements like buying a new car or home or boat whatever.. Pay down your debts and get all your health care for you and your family taken care of while you have those benefits. Take advantage of any other benefits for education and training if you have them.

The city is broke. It's hurting for cash. Wages are stagnant and the employment rate is back on the decline. Idled workers == lost tax revenue and lost tax revenue == cuts.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

Pension Legislation Alert 10/19/11

The Lodge is requesting that you contact your State Representative and State Senator now. Please tell them to say NO to HB3827 which would diminish our representation on our pension board and give the City an unfair advantage. You should also tell them to keep Chicago Police Officers out of SB512 which would change the way pension benefits are earned and calculated.

The easiest way to contact your legislators is to call 888-412-6570. You will be connected with your State Representative and State Senator.

So I can take a 5A Furlough then? How about the Springfield and Washington Memorial that I along with several other coppers go to each and every year? Are they going to say no this year, I can't go? Isn't the G8 only 5 days long?

This is just an attempt to avoid paying coppers to work during their furloughs and circumvent the contract. This event is in no way shape or form an emergency. Isn't an emergency something that is occurring or is imminent? A tornado, hurricane etc. etc. is an emergency. How can anyone call this an emergency when it's 7 months away? HOW CAN IT BE A FUCKING EMERGENCY WHEN THEY HAVEN'T EVEN DECIDED WHERE THE MEETINGS WILL BE!!! So, can we now decide to not abide by things in the contract if we feel it's not something we like?

Franczek is the lead negotiator for city with police as well. Anyone with labor background knew city was violating law by by-passing union and dealing directly with employees. The only group that made out in this were the high priced attorneys A waste of money on a political stunt

This is how the likes of Racoon Eyes operates. Fuck the Law and Rules of a contract. Throw enough smelly shit at us and some may stick. Remember the reputation this creep had in Washington. He has no morals and no regard for others. The only way to stop him is by using every legal tactic available. The rule of law still does mean something in this country. Instead of dealing with unions he goes to the media to demonize anyone he wants to crush. Look at the CTA. They are wailing about a deficit and have threatened a fare increase for next year unless the unions "accept" reduced benefits and work rule changes. All of this on the backs of regular working folks trying to make a living. This administration thinks they can get their way by making all of us look like greedy selfish fucks.

Union success is dependent upon it's members not being " scabs. " , i.e., teachers taking a couple of dollars to violate their own contract, coppers doing the same to be assigned to " special units, MSF, TRU etc.
Congratulations to Teachers Union for standing up to Rahm, showing that union members don't have to obey any of his royal decrees.
You have contractual rights, USE them!

The City is receiving Grant Money to purchase an X amount of black BDU for this coming May and are counting on the fact with no furlough time 5B or full 5 that they can schedule the watches as follows: 2nd and 3rd watches will work 12 hour shifts with Day-Offs intact while the 1st watch will be assigned to the G-8 detail. Seeing as the 2nd and 3rd watches have the most people they would not be striping the Districts of necessary man-power.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you think the city is broke, then Rham-a-dom has got you fooled already. The city has money for what it wants, not what we want it to give. Remember the raises for the mayor's staff and senior advisers. He took the teachers raises but has money for the schools and teachers he has strong armed into the longer school days. By the way is the teachers union going to throw out the teachers who agreed to these changes and did not go to the union? Just food for thought. City has money for the bodyguards of retired mayors and certain alderman but not the PENSIONS they have neglected for years!

Thanks again SCC for the timely information! By furlough choice will be first box 5B next 5, we are going to get paid! If the city wants to declare this and emergency why not cancel this shit knowing it will cause mass havoc and problems? Is rahmbo so worried about running for president that he will destroy Chicago completely? 9.5 is really a dictator,at least with Hitler he admitted he was that but rahm is so snaky. Herd also his commander of his detail got reamed about the parking ticket good shit! Wait a minute a $180,000+ big pension and new take home car on a small detail! The Honorable Kevin McCarthy.

Dear Sir
As a constitute I am asking you not to vote yes, again, for the pension reform bill,
Or the bill giving the mayor of Chicago the right to appoint a majority of new
members to the proposed pension boards.
I see from your Biography we are both alumni of Chicago Teachers College
by whatever names it had in the late 60’s and early 70’s.How anyone who
called themselves a teacher can vote for these bills is beyond my comprehension.
personally I spent forty one years in the public high schools on the south side
of Chicago. I will spare you the war stories, sufficient to say it was not an easy tenure.
that life took a toll on me and was ,partially, responsible for a hidden heart
condition which brought an end to my career.
The last thing I need now is to worry about my pension. Please do not write me
that current pensioners are not affected. Last year you screwed the new teachers,
this year it could be current teachers. Will next year be our turn?
Finally I would like to point out that your district includes many public workers
and a lot of public pensioners who cannot tolerate any represensive who votes
against their economic livelihood. Even as powerful a political organization as
the Cook County Democratic Organization can protect a Politician from frightened
voters.

Chicago has worked long and hard to have one of the best representations in Washington DC during "Police Week" than any other police department in the nation.
Chicago maintains the revered honor of being the first law enforcement group that the Gold Star Family members from throughout the entire nation see upon entering the U.S. Capitol ceremony, and recently coupled with our brothers and sisters in the LAPD, the last group that salute them when they depart.
It is a true honor and privilege to behold.
Works are under way for our "retirees" to 'hold the fort' next year while our active brothers and sisters in Chicago work the G8 Summit.
To our brother retirees... PLEASE seriously consider joining the proud members that will continue this tradition in May 13-15, 2012.
More information will follow.
Anyone having any input/ideas, kindly use this SCC forum to offer your helpful suggestions.
