County Layoffs Threatened

  • Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is asking county unions to agree to eight unpaid days off of work next year to help save 500 jobs.

Preckwinkle’s offer came in a letter sent out to union leaders this week as she looks to finalize her executive budget recommendation by month's end. In the letter, Preckwinkle asks union workers to give up pay for six holidays, including Labor Day, and to take two other unpaid days off.

Unions, which have been meeting regularly with Preckwinkle as she puts together next year's budget, say they’ve been blindsided.

Evidently, the campaign contributions haven't bought the access they thought they had. But seeing as how County is the most overstaffed, useless and redundant arm of government that we can think of, we aren't surprised.

Nah, Townships in urban areas like 'Lake Township' (Chicago) or Stickney Township or Palatine Township are the most useless, tax eating, patronage padded and overstaffed redundant arm of government.

They can't even tell you what they do, besides cash a check

We have two presidential candidates that are raising over $1 billion dollars in corporate campaign contributions. Who do they represent? Who is going to get face time with them and who is going to get favorable treatment?

Answer: The corporations.

Politicians today should be required to wear jumpsuits like NASCAR drivers do.

That way you know what corporations are sponsoring your candidate republican or democrat by the corporate logo's that they flash.

While they are threatening layoffs get ready for the Chicago Merc. Exchange CME tax break handouts coming. The next veto session is starting downstate and the CME has it's boot on Rahm's neck.

Forget the "we are all in this together." CME is going to get it's tax increase reversed leaving the Chicago middle class holding the bag.

The proposed layoffs haven't stopped this liberal political hack from hiring three servants to drive her. Apparently she is too stupid to operate a motor vehicle. Like Daley and Burke. And guard her her from imagined threats.

We had lard ass Daley on the City Hall side fucking up the government and Todd "Erkle" Stroger on the Cook County side doing the same thing. Both of these moronic pricks should be in jail.

Most of the hits are coming from an area (pd's office, probation which just lost 46 in April, clerks office, etc) that will directly affect the taxpayers who will be on the hook for the lawsuits and the police who will no doubt notice they are locking up the same offenders more frequently. If it happens, dont be surprised when the appeals start for ineffective assistance of counsel for denying them their right to a speedy trial. Not one area affected is non-union. Forget that Masters and other familiar names from the Daley regime landed $150k+ spots and she is giving raises to upper management in the double digits, she went right to the unions and started cutting.

Concessions or layoffs, that's what Preckwinkle is declaring but in the same breath she boosts her security guards salary by thousands. WTF is going on? Doing more with less, does she not listen to Rahm! The salary not paid for the third guard not hired is what society calls a savings , let' start there, not divvy it up toward the others and ask unions for concessions. I give up!

Why are townships needed in this day and age? Needed long ago, not now.

In the news today...8 suburbs bordering Evanston are seriously considering getting their water from Evanston which has its own filtration facility. Numb Nuts Rahm may wind up getting less money for the city when the suburbs find an alternative to his water rate tricks. Water should not be held hostage to make more money to piss away on corrupt projects. If anyone thinks this new money from doubling the water rates will go to fix city water pipes they are smoking something illegal. Can I have some?

Why do the hairgels in the Central Business District/Loop bend over for the County cars that are obviously just parked illegally all day long and never move?

Support your Local ICE office...

Call in tips of businesses that run illegal employees.

Check every damn 'food cart vendor' or food truck vendor or Scrap metal Collection truck driver.

Go through every darn Target or Walmart or Dominicks or w/e parking Lot and check for City Stickers.

If you have to stop someone for whatever damn reason...Do a contact card and ANOV them. Make sure the Compstat meetings are a blast as the Police Show that Crime isn't down, that the City and County Policy of Ignoring Federal Law is done and that they not only need every cop on duty...but they need to hire 3k more.

Be safe.

Why does Mike Masters get a pass all the time when it comes to the County. This shit head is making $160,000. He's bring in other CPD like Hamilton. He's making $40,000 more than the other guy that was their. Take a look at the 2010 budget.

Putting aside the poor spelling and grammar, this poster does have a point...but it's Machine politics as usual. Did anyone really think that once Hillard
tossed Masters out on his incompetent ass that he would really be gone for good? As in, "OMG, I've gotta get my Harvard educated ass out in the REAL
WORLD and find a REAL JOB?" REALLY? People like
Masters will always be around, drinking at the
public trough. There will always be a big $ salary,
an office, a car and a phone for the likes of him.
And as long as people like Masters keep people
like RayRay under their desks, they will always
have somewhat of a loyal army of ball warmers.
Can you blame RayRay for following Masters to
the County? After RayRay was pulled from being
the CO of Rahm's bodyguard detail by Hillard,
he had to know his career here was toast. Ray
would never wear a gold star in the CPD after
the job he and Masters did to a few careers
under J-Fled. Well paid idiots that the two of
them are, at least they are gone from the CPD,
so rejoice in that. Preckwinkle may well be on
her way to being a one-term County Prez, and
if that turns out to be the case, so be it as well.
As the public dollars continue to shrink, you're
going to see some of the clouted tossed aside,
no longer being able to be carried by the Machine.
This is a good thing. Eventually the budgetary
knife may find it's way to the County Homeland
Security office as well. Sit back and enjoy the
show, at least it's free.

Good point on the Master's case. However, when did the blog or it's readers become critical of spelling or grammar. Let's keep it real...
