9%, 10%, 11% Raises!

What? Oh, not for the front line police or firefighters. You peons be happy with your 2% and 1% raises:
  • Even with 517 layoffs, $417 million in budget cuts and $220 million in higher taxes, fines and fees, Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s first city budget rewards a handful of top mayoral aides.

Fire Commissioner Robert Hoff is in line for a nine percent pay raise — from $185,652 a year to $202,728.

There’s also a nine percent pay hike — to $178,740 — for the newly-appointed deputy commissioner in charge of the scandal-scarred Fire Prevention Bureau.

  • While the Chicago Police Department is closing three district stations and eliminating 1,252 police vacancies, Supt. Garry McCarthy’s chief of staff will get a nearly ten percent bump — to $185,004.

The Police Department’s new director of news affairs will be paid $112,008 a year, nearly 9.5 percent more.

Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein gets a nearly eight percent pay raise — to $169,500. A former transportation chief in Washington D.C., Klein is a champion of bike lanes and bike sharing, two of Emanuel’s pet projects.

General Services Commissioner David Reynolds gets a nearly 12 percent bump from his predecessor — from $140,364 to $157,092.

[...] Although the budget for the mayor’s office is down slightly — to just under $6 million — a staff restructuring has resulted in pay cuts for some and eye-popping pay raises for others.

Matt Hynes, director of the Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, is in line for a nearly seven percent raise — from $158,364 to $168,996.

An administrative secretary in the mayor’s office gets a 22 percent pay raise — to $90,000. Four assistants to the mayor would be in line for increases ranging from 14 percent to 41 percent — one earning as much as $162,492.

There are also pay hikes for two deputy chiefs of staff. The budget director and chief financial officer also get a boost, both receiving $169,992-a-year.

But hey, that's not urine on your head. It's raining! Honest!
  • Communications Director Chris Mather — whose $162,492 a year salary is eight percent less than her predecessor’s — insisted that most of the increases built into the mayor’s first budget are not really pay raises.

“People aren’t getting raises from now to 2012. This is what they got hired at. And there are a number of younger, entry-level people who came in at a lower amount, so we bumped some of them up to 2012,” Mather said in an e-mail response to the Chicago Sun-Times.

If the check amount went up, it's a raise. We certainly expect the FOP negotiating committee is taking copious notes on these raises, seeing as how after Rahm raises health and pension contributions next contract while claiming the City is still broke, we're looking at pay cuts in terms of take home pay.

Sycophants.

Those senior-level "yes-man" folks who serve to flatter Rahm get the raises, oops, "salary adjustments".

Line-level employees either are already cheating the system, or now realizing that the system is cheating them. An honest diligent and effective worker simply isn't acknowledged OR rewarded in the Chicago system, or the Cook County system, or the State of Illinois system. To advance, you either need to be a relative of Daley, Madigan, Mell, etc, or an outsider air-freighted by the current Big Cheese needing an unquestioningly obsequious department head.

Those raises are probably the most demoralizing action Rahm's administration could do to rank-and-file police officers. Feel sorry for you guys.

Not a cop.

Yeah baby, I want one of those "eye-popping" raises that Fran is talking about.

Last year I got a 2% raise. Then dipshit Quinn raises my Illinois State Income taxes the same amount and my eyes popped out. With anger, frustration and disgust.

This year I got a 1% raise and the dipshits who want to slash our pensions accused us of getting huge raises (1%) while all around there was "shared sacrifice" going on.

My eyes popped out again, I couldn't find my raise on my paycheck and my eyes popped out trying to find it.

Here is the shared sacrifice I want to see. I want all the big bosses who just got "eye popping" raises to share in this sacrifice, I want them all to be sacrificed straight to the unemployment line.

Or else they can all go into the large stew pot until they are nice and well done and the hungry homeless people can share in the "fat cat stew."

Mmmm good.

These clowns are already overpaid!

This is a clear indication the elitistist politicians are flipping the taxpaying citizens the middle finger and/or they want to forment social & financial unrest so they can grab power by force.

Most those Flea-baggers demonstrating in the NYC park are useful idiots of the Left but law-abiding, workaday Americans could learn someting about massive demonstrations in the face of these political suckholes.

Two figures quoted for McNutty...Supt. Garry McCarthy’s chief of staff will get a nearly ten percent bump — to $185,004....

That changed when former Mayor Richard M. Daley hired career FBI agent Jody Weis and agreed to pay him an unprecedented $310,000-a-year. McCarthy’s salary is $260,004 — 16 percent lower than Weis.

So is his salary 185 or 260?

I challenge the mayor and the people that receive these wage increases to find ANYONE in the private sector getting wage increases like that -- except for the elite CEO's and their executive friends you'll find NONE!

Now go out and bust and harass the Occupy Wall Street crowd for some b.s. city ordinance as they call for justice and fairness and pension protection on our behalf.

They're coming after your pensions like they came after the private sectors FICA payroll tax contributions. The Fed gave us a 2% so-called tax break by allowing us a pass on contributing into our soc. sec fund and the State of Illinois immediately took that tax break away by raising the State income tax by 2%.

Our retirement money went from the Fed to the State and the Governor and soon the Mayor will be handing out that retirement money to the CME group as a tax break and to Sears and their other corporate friends. The money also will go to their close circle of friends like we're seeing.

The transfer of wealth...and it's not where you think. We're closing mental health facilities and we're closing down homeless shelters and jamming the people in the police station where we get to work with them and step over them in the lobbies.

People on food stamps and welfare are not getting near double digit increases this is an outrage! Don't go pointing on the have nothings and blame them for taking handouts-- it's the elite bosses, CEO's and politicians that are raping you.

It's like being on a career suicide mission making martyrs of yourself.

====================

Well 2012 is only two months away, are they getting another raise based upon their annual hire date too in a few more months?

What the hell happen to the "WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER"?

Burke still has his drivers. Maggie has her public servants driving her to the doctor because her family could care less about her... and now double digit wage increases for the clouted "special people". They're special.

We're building parks and we're closing homeless shelters and reducing library hours. We're about to butcher the pensions to pay for it all and they're already dividing up the proceeds among themselves.

$60.00 CITY STICKER HIKE FOR VEHICLES OVER 4,000 POUNDS

"The mayor said Wednesday during his budget speech, he wants to increase city sticker prices by $15, but according to the Chicago Tribune, he left out an important detail.

"That price is only if you drive a small vehicle weighing less than 4,000 pounds. Any vehicle weighing more than that would pay $60 more, for a total sticker price of $120.

"The weight change means 184,000 more vehicles in Chicago would fall under a pricier sticker class, and that has Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza mad. She plans to fight the proposed hikes.

Emanuel expects to raise an extra $12 million for the city with the increased prices, money that will put a small dent in the city's $636 million deficit. Here's a breakout of the proposed price increases:

Vehicles under 4,000 pounds: $120

Vehicles over 4,000 pounds: $135

Pickup trucks: $200

Commercial trucks: $450

Don't you just love it?

The city used the public pension funds as their personal piggy bank for years didn't they? What's the matter, can they no-longer play that game for some reason so now...it's here.. it's your problem.

====

"...Speaking of pensions, this is from Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s own budget proposal analysis…

CPS Reimbursement: $32.5 million in increased pension reimbursement from CPS

All government agencies need to stand on their own financial footing. The City should not be paying for pensions for employees of other agencies. CPS should be responsible for all of its own pension obligations. This is the smokes and mirrors way of budgeting of the past."

So, the mayor moves that pension funding off his budget, but the schools will have to find a way to pay for it with more cuts.

Also, over 21 percent of Emanuel’s $238 million “Investments, Financing and Growth” section of his budget is from a one-time source - refinancing city debt. And then there’s this…

When Mayor Rahm Emanuel trotted out his city vehicle sticker fee hike, he billed it as a modest $15 increase aimed at those who drive SUVs and trucks that cause the most damage to city streets.

What the mayor didn’t highlight is a change he’s pushing in how those large passenger vehicles are defined. Instead of setting the bar at 4,500 pounds, as it is now, Emanuel wants it set at 4,000 pounds.

Such a change means 184,000 more Chicago vehicles would fall under a pricier sticker class. And their owners would pay $60 more for a sticker.

http://capitolfax.com/2011/10/14/fun-with-numbers-2/

==========================

Pretty slick messing around with those definitions of what words mean like what's residency mean huh? So they slip in what's an SUV mean by dropping the weight classification and not telling anyone -- 184,000 SURPRISES!!

$60.00 X 184,000 == $11,040,000.00 alone not to mention the vehicles already classified as an SUV!

The Police Superintendent was hired at an inflated salary to begin with due to the fiscal irresponsibilty of our former mayor.

Many know it was a salary justified by the previous mayor paying the former Supt. doing two jobs which was ultimately dialed back to one job with no change in salary.

The fact Rahm hires the new guy at such an inflated salary and then gives him any raise at all, at this time, shows Rahm is full of shit and a really, really, really bad leader, manager and mayor.

This is't really a surprise to the readers here.

It is confusing. Rahm is slashing through more than Scott Walker (R-WI) and Chris Christie(R-NJ) did combined. So where are all the sit-ins and union marches like they did in Wisconsin?

Better hope your clout is big enough to help you hold onto your cush jobs as their first priority is to hold onto their own jobs.

from McNutty himself:

From the desk of Garry F. McCarthy, Superintendent of Police Oct. 14, 2011

Garry F. McCarthy, Superintendent of Police CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

Since my appointment as Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, I have sought to streamline operations and create a more efficient Department while maintaining the high level of police service and professionalism for which this Department is known. Every change has been made with the dual purpose of giving officers what they need to do their jobs safely, efficiently, and to the best of their abilities, as well as providing for the safety of our communities and the people of this city.

Initial changes included eliminating levels in the command structure and restoring the position of First Deputy Superintendent. Several additional changes were announced in Mayor Emanuel's 2012 proposed budget notably that over the course of the next few months, the Department will undergo a major restructuring. Among the changes is the merger of several Police and Fire specialized units, the relocation of CFD administrative offices into CPD headquarters, and the consolidation of area commands, patrol districts and detective areas. The proposed budget also provides for the hiring of two classes of recruits in 2012.
Following the restructure, the Department will consist of three Area commands: North, Central and South, and the Wood (13th), Belmont (19th) and Prairie (21st) Districts will be consolidated as follows: Wood (13th) will be consolidated with the Monroe (12th) District; Belmont (19th) will be consolidated with the Town Hall (23rd) District; and Prairie (21st) will be consolidated with the Central (1st) and Wentworth (2nd) Districts. It has not yet been determined how the Area buildings will be consolidated.
This consolidation plan will create a strong and sustainable organizational structure, allowing officers to perform their duties more effectively and with less bureaucracy. Additional officers will be freed up by the merger of administrative functions meaning more boots on the ground working in districts.

At this time, there are several items that remain undetermined, including the timeline for implementation. Discussions about this are ongoing.

I am confident that this reorganization will help us continue the crime reductions we have achieved in recent months and will increase public safety within our communities.

As part of the budget process, the City Council will review the Mayor's proposed budget over the course of the next few weeks. During this time, I will present the Department's budget to the Budget Committee and outline its merits and the public safety advances we will achieve with its implementation.

I will do my best to keep Department members informed as the process moves forward and details are finalized. This is an exciting time for the Chicago Police Department and I am proud to share in it with all of you.

Hey why not send video tapes to Al-Jazerra threatening to behead the careers of these people??

"Give us the ransom money or we'll martyr their jobs." They could say while wearing hoods and wielding swords

Look, Sears knows that the State of Illinois has the Illinois taxpayers Federal FICA payroll tax money and damn it to hell they want to get their hands on it before the money is given to the CME group or some other corporation as a tax break or to politicians aids as a double digit wage and benefit increase.

Washington gave the people a 2% FICA payroll tax break to stimulate the economy -- that's our retirement fund, and the State of Illinois immediately raised the State income tax by 2% taking it all away before any of the taxpayers could realize the increase in take home pay and feel the full effect of what is going on here.

YOU'RE PENSIONS ARE NEXT.

Sears Threatening to Move Business Out of Illinois Along with 6,000 Jobs

Chicago - The stakes couldn't be higher. Sears, a company synonymous with Chicago for more than a century, is threatening to move out of Illinois and take as many as 6,000 jobs with it.

State and local officials are trying to keep Sears in its current Hoffman Estates home. But one of the largest school districts in the northwest suburbs said there should be limits as to how far officials go.

At a rally attended by about 2,000 people at H.D. Jacobs High School, one speaker after another declared, “23 years is enough.”

They referred to a deal negotiated in 1989 between Sears and then governor James Thompson. Sears was moving out of its landmark high-rise in downtown Chicago, and was prepared to go to North Carolina.

They were persuaded to choose Hoffman Estates by a deal that included substantial property tax concessions.

It's all terrorism.

Tax breaks for how many year now?

Twenty-three years!!

It's not like this is a struggling company that needs temporary help.

Many people rant about welfare becoming a lifestyle and what do you call this but corporate welfare. Helping someone when times are tough is one thing however these people are supposed to be highly educated and know how to run a business...or so we are told. They've had over 23 years to adjust if they hit a ruff patch.

It has become like heroin with these corporations and how much longer is it going to be allowed to go on -- into perpetuity?

NO MORE!

Oh, man.

"Trucks that do the most damage to city streets?" Those God-damned semis with the containers that keep getting longer and longer.

The farther back the city moves light poles -- to where people on the sidewalks have a hard time dodging around them -- the more extensions they weld on those things.

Go look at all the crushed curbs, all the dual sets of tire tracks diagonally across the sidewalk at every street corner in this city.

City needs money, huh? Require a highly visible meter on every semi-tractor that hauls overlong trailers through this city, and set the thing at $100/hour for starters. Electronically logs itself on/off the clock as it crosses the line. That might begin to pay for the danger and the damage the taxpayers now get stuck with because of "intermodal."

Lower-tech, many towns put heavy, concrete filled pipes upright at corners to protect a lousy fire hydrant. How about to protect people waiting to cross the street?

Private firms aren't shy - in 025, along Oak Park, Mars Candy lined their parkway with granite boulders to keep 'em off the trees and landscaping.

Seems to work. A two-ton rock has a "deterrent quality," I guess.

Just like putting a frog in a pot of boiling water, if you drop it into the pot when it's already hot, it will leap out, but if you very sneakily put the from in room temp water, and turn it up very gradually to the boiling point, the frog will boil to its death. This is what the Communist politicians of Chicago, and the U.S. have been doing for years, via welfare, food stamps, link cards, Affirmative Action, Busing, unending Unemployment pay, Union Dues Mismanagement/Theft, Political-Correctness, "Green Jobs" etc. You've been SCAMMED, COMRADES !!1

Many are losing their homes to foreclosure or just throwing the keys into the kitchen sink and just "walking away". How many are having such a hard time just paying for electric, gas, and putting food on the table. Then we have these over paid arrogant fucks at City Hall trying to make up for the mismangement of this city for 20 years on all our backs. Doubling water rates, more for city stickers, and a host of other "fees". These are actually TAX INCREASES. You can call them something else but they are TAX INCREASES! Now we also find out that our Homeowners Exemption will be less than last year and we will in fact have a PROPERTY TAX INCREASE. Don't these greedy selfish bastards in politics understand we are at the bottom right now. Maybe Emanuel, and his ruthless uncaring coharts, should take a walk over to LaSalle St. and see what the demonstrators are protesting about. BW does not have the intelligence, nor self-confidence to be a leader. Her treachery knows no bounds. Be careful of this one, she knows she's already in way over her head, but uses the Reverend clout to carry on. Another Penny in the making!

Dummy, if you are going to put something in quotes, at least get the quote right. You have been mis-quoting this for years.

The line is, and I quote

"Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage"

-Billy Corgan

Better yet, why are you losers quoting Billy Corgan? Grow up.

O.T.- There was a shooting at 13th and Grand Avenue during the early morning hours of Friday morning. Not a word or beep from the media. The yuppies have no clue as to what is coming in store with them. Violence against cops is up but crime is down.

At Ashland and Grand.
Looks like a cut and paste error to me. Nothing more, nothing less. Relax.

More important than the typo is the fact that the media reported it as 'police activity blocking the intersection', without knowing what the hell they were looking at.

Don,t be like that. Now I want all of you to go out there and write more tickets and more vehicle sticker tickets to help pay for all the bumps. Also if we are all in this togeather then we should have bumps of 5/8% also. Yeah Right.

New protests coming, Occupy Englewood is next. The Occupy Englewood people will take the day off from their jobs to protest the wealthy mortgage bankers who screwed them out of their house in Lake Forest and forced them to become crack dealers and crack whores.

Occupy Englewood, it's coming.

Whatever the case with the salaries, the bottom line is Rahm had the power to reign in those out-of-control salaries that do not reflect true market forces. If he can choose to negotiate work furloughs on rank and file city workers, circumvent collective bargaining pay rates with teachers, he certainly can tell his top 1% staffers that shared sacrifice requires leadership from the top. Since Rahm ran as the first "homeless mayor" ever, I guess it was silly for me hope he was more of a man of the people. ;) But for a humorous look back at Rahm's carefree homeless days and the new-car smell of his campaign victory, check out this YouTube video: http://tinyurl.com/4ys6b8t.
