Stealing the Pension
- Less than 24 hours after the Tribune and WGN-TV reported that at least eight union officials eligible for a city pension also stand to receive one or more union pensions for the same period of work, Illinois House Republican leader Tom Cross filed legislation that would limit them to just the one.
"This is double dipping on steroids — and it was meant to be illegal. Unfortunately, top union officials used a questionable interpretation of the pension law that allowed them to use a loophole to grab two or sometimes three pensions," said Cross, R-Oswego. "This is a disgrace — and must be remedied immediately."
Under Illinois pension law, a union leader may receive a city pension based on his union salary as long as he doesn't "receive credit in any pension plan established by the local labor organization based on his employment by the organization."
But the Tribune and WGN-TV found that the executive directors of two city pension funds allowed union leaders to accrue additional union pension benefits if the funds were created by labor groups that are not located in Chicago or that include multiple unions.
All well and good to close a loophole that's draining pension funds statewide. But what's the reason for adding this language to the bill?
- Amends the Chicago Police, Chicago Firefighter, Chicago Municipal, Chicago Laborers, Chicago Park District, and Chicago Teacher Articles of the Illinois Pension Code to terminate the existing pension boards 90 days after the effective date of the amendatory Act and to provide for a new board comprised of 4 members appointed by the Mayor of the City of Chicago and 3 elected members representing active members and annuitant members of the fund. [...]
Effective immediately.
Are we missing something or is this completely under the radar?

Oh its just cross union hating teaming up with our mayor to steal our pensions. nothing to look at folks.
What is to be done to stop the bastards from taking out money, calls, letters, marchs, faxing or what does anyone have a workable Idea????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
This is Rahm's way of controlling our pension....put in his own stool pigeons....
Daley style
Lets hope FOP gets out in front of this one immediately. Looks like we better join the ranks of the Marchers, Quick.
Hey don't worry. Rahm will probably assign one of the positions to Burke who already controls everything when it comes to workers comp.
Yeah..you're in good hands..
I cant wait to see all these house mouse desk crew go back on the street. Im not talking about the coppers with 15 plus years they deserve to work there if they please. Im talking about the cops with less then 15 years... The ones that barely had 10 years thinking they are king of the castle treating pos like shit just cause they can change a schedule.
Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy, you let the folks who under-paid their share to the pension funds control the payouts to those who did pay their full share. That is what they call reform! Think the legislators et al. will limit themselves to one pension?
They're going to hire Frank Drebin to talk to the public workers about the bill.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NNOrp_83RU
this is nothing but a pension grab y politicians!
Yup. Get some education as long as the city is still paying for it. You'll need that parachute for a decent job when your soul is exhausted from working this bullshit one. (fart noise)
The cities pension funds have an aggregate shortage of about
$20,000,000,000. There are 1 million households in the entire city. Estimate 600,000 are comprised of working households. After you subtract seniors and then of course all of the (fill in your own favorite word). Simple math tells me thats $33,333 per household.
The elected whores fucked us and we paid them to do it. After all thats what whores do for a living.
The icing is they are closing my southside district to move me farther south, where they expect me to play referee between scumbag gangs shooting at each other as they make $ selling drugs people will never stop buying. After 15 years of this shit yeah I'll try real hard to catch them and risk taking a bullet to the head, neck, dick or femoral artery. Oh and the city has $ for the multimillionare owner of the world series champ cubs. LOFL
2 late now!
Sure does look like a power grab on our pensions by the corrupt usual suspects. Just because union officials got caught abusing the system doesn't mean we have to give up control of our pensions to the same inept politicians who have bankrupted this entire state. If the government puts back in the $Billions they have failed to contribute to our pension plans then maybe we can talk about "reform". We have stacks of their bogus I.O.U.'s.
it looks like we may pay more and get less.anyone with the time should follow this closely and get out!
Greg Hinz at Crain's is reporting that Rahm is going to bat for the millionaires at the CME to lower their tax burden. On top of that a blogger said the City gave the CME 15 million in TIF taxpayer money for corporate office renovations.
I doubt our hard earned pensions will get a similar approach.
They're going to sneak it thru and screw us all...we all pay into our pensions every 2 weeks but its our fault the state is broke....they're got to get control of and steal our money, because our taxes aren't enough, and we're screwed when we go to retire....as long as they get their money they don't care if we have to work till the day we die...
The facts are bad and the impact is that the union leaders the rank and file are counting on to fight to keep civilian rank and file pension benefits intact are losing their strength and credibility. Sadly, this is going to hurt rank and file because Rahm has already stated he wants to tackle this particular issue with larger pension reform.
Translation, let's use this crisis to go after ALL pension recipients.
Fortunately police and fire labor leaders don't get this perk. Hopefully they will still have the strength to protect sworn pensions.
What does our Pension Board Rep/FOP President have to say about it?
They should also look at all the former CPD officers who are also going to collect county pensions for just hanging around some office for a few years.
Tom Cross - you have been set up bigtime! Doing Madigan-Cullerton's dirty work for them. Leave the last part out of the legislation.
Nope, were not missing anything. This would give tiny dancer 9.5 de facto control over the pensions. He will makes us work longer, pay more into it and receive less out.
Hey all you teachers who agreed to a longer day, how do you feel now?
RAM will control whose on the Board? Holy Crap! Isn't he screwing us enough with all his new changes and now his new "smoke and mirror" taxes [IE; city stickers, water bilss, etc.]. I am so pissed off. I am retiring in 2012 and have planned a budget. With ALL the new crap, how can anyone live in this dam city, let alone in Illinois. Only welfare can survive.
You actually thought they would do that publicly? With 23 years left to GO, I'm screwed. It look more and more as the days go on, the 9 3/8% that has been going to my pension won't be there when I'm ready to retire.
The FOP, PBPA, Firefighters Local 7, Chicago Teachers Union and the Municipal Workers Union must make it abundantly clear to all state senators and representatives that we will provide enormous contributions to their opponents if they dare support this bill. Now is also the time to march on City Hall and the State of Illinois Building.
This was brought to the table by two Republicans that have nothing to do with the City of Chicago. It puts our pension money under direct control of this Mayor, to do with what he will. And I thought Vanecko stealing tens of millions was wrong.
It just shows you that the crooked combine of Illinois politicians is alive and well. This State is truly disgusting.
Rahm, if I am wrong, please tell me how I am misinterpreting this.
There's no money in the pension till and it's not going to be there. Sorry but those are the facts. Most state and local workers voted D based on the promises and never stopped voting D even though the promised pensions were never funded. I'm sorry but no sympathy here.
Les S--still proud of your prick nephew? He becomes a millionaire off his political connections and now aims to stick it to us while pandering to the tax takers.
Will this affect Mike Shields' Police, Pension Board & Union pensions?
Show me what democracy looks like, this is what democracy looks like, the Chicago, Illinois way.
Actually it brings it in line with the downstate Police and Fire pension boards. They have been working under that type of board forever. Not saying its right just saying that's what it is.
EVERYONE needs to realize that the politicians are attacking our pensions. This is OUR money not theirs, we have contributed 9% to these funds. The website www.weareoneillinois.org had been started during the last attempt to attack our pensions, eveyone should visit this site and register. They have a link where you can send an email message to your legislators to voice your concern over this recent attempt to control our pensions. This organization includes everyone in Illinois who receives a public pension, teachers, firefighters, law enforcement including the FOP and PB&PA representatives. Now is not the time to be complacent especially those officers who have less than 10 years on the job. I implore you to take an active roll today, the only thing these politicians understand is numbers of voters.
Thank You
Tiny-Dancer 9.5 wants to lower our maximum pension to 65% while also decreasing our yearly bump after 20 to 1.75% down from 2 1/2%.
If you work 29 and a day your pension would be 65.5%.
Takes away the controling board members of the teachers union and Police and Fire. Rahm can appoint his own friends and get rid of Daleys appointees
Seems odd that as soon as the story broke in the Tribune about the pension scandal all of our beloved politicians jump on the bandwagon of "pension reform". Where were these jagoffs when all the corrupt deals were being made to let these low lifes get two or three pensions? This scandal is now being used by the same politicians as a vehicle to grab control of our pensions. The only thing wrong with the police & fire pensions is the I.O.U.'s that have ben substituted for cash over the years. Racoon Eyes sees this as a way to forgive the city portion of money owed to our pension and makes us pay more for less. What a pathetic lying whore he is. Typical politician. All of these lying bastard politicians should be put in cages and used for experiments.
First we had the daley criminal wave continue unabated and now the rahmbo and crew crime wave of theft and deception will commence! You thought rahmbo the people protesting were something you and your thieves fuck with our earned pensions you have not seen nothing yet! We will band with other unions and shut this city corrupt state down!

These fucking politicians want to steal our pension after we've spent years chasing and dealing with societies worst. We've been cursed, assaulted, battered, stabbed, shot and shot at and some have paid the ultimate sacrafice. Police have gone through all of this along with all the other stresses that this department can toss your way. We've done this faithfully for 20 plus years with the promise made to us that we would have a pension upon retirement. Now these greedy ass politicians want take aways our futures and our means to support ourselves and family after retirement because they've mismanaged and stolen for soo long that they see no other way out! The greed continues, because while all the focus is on Chicago politicians downstate are trying to pass a bill that would give them 85% of their pension for eight years of service as a partime employee. This would include a great health care package at retirement. Everyone needs to wake up and lets stick together. All unions are under attack while other POLS walk away rich and laughing
Wow! It won't be the first time that our elected thieves slip something in a bill that no one knows about until it's too late. Damn politicians are all crooks.
we might have to have that mistake amended!
The only problem with them "stealing your money" is that there is no money there. You gave up your votes to the D's for nothing.
How about the article in the Times today where it says the city is subsidizing the pension for non-teaching employees for the CPS to the tune of 32.5 million. The city can subsidize the CPS but cant meet their required contributions to our pension which is the main reason our pension is in such bad shape
I cant wait to see all these house mouse desk crew go back on the street. Im not talking about the coppers with 15 plus years they deserve to work there if they please. right on brother. these assholes behind the desk in 012 from midnights and afternoons are the worst to deal with.
the fop president needs to be accountable. What has he done to bring attention to the needs of our pension. He is still on that board.

Too late. All the thieving will be done by the summer of 2012. Look for the new Police Pension Board to rahm through a retroactive maximum pension annuity of 50% for CPD suckers with at least 30 years of continuous service retiring after June 30, 2012. Man the lifeboats!
On an uplifting side note, check out this fun document:
http://www.ilga.gov/commission/cgfa2006/Upload/FY2009_SmallSystemsReport.pdf
Odds are excellent that those pension funds not able to secure additional revenues from the state to shore up their unfunded liabilities will be left out in the cold. Ask FOP President Shields about that one.
TRICKY RAHM!
HE KEEP HIS OTHER POLITICIANS IN THE DARK!
THE SUPE HAD NO CLUE WHAT DISTRICTS WERE CLOSING ALL HE DID WAS GATHER THE DATA.
THE ALDERMEN WERE TOLD THE SAME B.S.
IF U FOLLOWED THE BLAGO TRIAL WHICH I DOUBT... U WOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT PEOPLE ON BOARDS HAVE AGENDAS.
IF U CONTROL PENSION CASH U CONTROL INFLUENCE.
INVESTMENTS LIKE THE VANECKO SCAMS THAT NOBODY HAS PROSECUTED YET A SGT IN AREA 4 MOVES CASH AROUND AND BAM THE STATES ATTORNEYS ON IT.
MAGGIE DALEY HAS CONTRIBUTIONS FROM TIFS AND NOBODY KNOWS WHY HER CHARITIES ON THE LIST.
LOOK A LITTLE HARDER AT CHARITIES U DONATE THAT THE CITY OFFERS TO TAKE IT STRAIGHT OUT OF UR CHECK.
WHY DOES THE CITY DO IT!
AND WHO HANDLES THE CASH
EVEN A RETIRED SUPE DOES THIS!
WATCH AS THE CITY GO AFTER U AT WORK FOR WATER BILL AND PARKING TICKETS USING POLICE RESOURCES ILLEGALLY.
BUT IF U LOOK UP A CASE REPORT ON SOME WEIRDOS UP NORTH YOU GET WRITTEN UP.
What's the difference between what 9.5 and Cross are trying to do and what Cellini is on trial for in the Dirksen building ?
Shields is a failure on the pension board so don't get your hopes up when it comes down to our contract. He will get punished by the Mayor. He may talk to the Supt every day but whatever he tells the Supt it goes right to the Mayor. The Mayor can't wait to put Fop President Shields in his place. I guarantee the mayor thinks Shields is an insecure arrogant kid that shoots his mouth off. Your honeymoon is over Mike. It is too bad for your membership.
This is going to be terrible for all of us, who can we start calling to try and stop it? Rahm has a little man, napoleon complex and needs to have his hands in everything! Just look at the news papers every day it's "Rahm this or Rahm that". He will destroy our pensions, we all need to unite and let this city burn if he fucks with our pensions!
Where is our union?
Southwest siders, start calling:
Sen. Ed Maloney
Rep. Monique Davis
Rep. Bill Cunningham
Thought Daley has three pensions City pension for mayor, county pension for ASA and state pension for representative
What did the FOP's "lobbyist" in Springfield ever do.
Simple solution STOP paying into the pension.
It's our money and if we are not in control there has to be a legal means to simply stop paying into a pension that won't be avaiable to use later.

We must march and protest. Marching and protesting will do a a lot of good and ultimately it will change their minds. Our dear politicians will end up changing their hearts and minds because we marched and protested. Just like Martin Luther Kind and Mahatma Ghandi did.

I hope that this is close to the truth. Do I want a decrease in my promised pension? No, I do not. But of the million different ways that our pension could change from what is now promised, this isn't the worst of the rumors I have heard. That said, I still believe that we should fight for every penny we are owed.
Was the bill passed?
The union contracts have been made a mockery of. It doesn't matter if things are in writing or how many signatures or who's signatures are on them. No-one honors those words.
The money has been stolen and like the Wall Street Banks that have reduced the wealth of this nation by over 20% while increasing unemployment to over 24 million people all in less than 18 months time and NO-ONE is being held accountable! NO-ONE.
Oh well..time to go on another corporate campaign fundraising tour to keep the circle-jerk of money in the loop of clout.
It's fascinating to watch the people within this department that are victims of the Stockholm syndrome
5000 police officers should go belly up to the pension board and put in their papers now, if they have not done so already.Thats roughly how many cops are left that can do 20 and out. You guys , and I can now say you guys (I'm already retired and digging it) just keep turning the other cheek and doing traffic stops and the endless search for the dime bag blows and rocks, are stupid as a mf and should be standing back and watching the city burn down. Is there no level of treachery and deciet and bullshit that can sour you idiots on this gig? Are you guys that dense or that broke and have no marketable skills? What on earth keeps you on the payrole? I am betting it is ex-wives, college aged kids that need keg money and enflated mortgages because you overly refinanced yourselves to death. The average traps of a city worker. During the G8, the CPD should be escorting the protesters, taxpayers and citizens right to daley and rahm's house.
the fop is you. they should be acting for the benefit of the members. if not, vote them out.where is the money vanecko borrowed? who made it possible for him to get the loan.? was it legal for him to get the money from the fund? where is the money appropriated by the city budget for pension contributions? does anyone know,or care?

The 2 suburban reps, Cross and Senger, are sneaking that provision giving majority votes to the Mayor under the guise of reform. ALL the affected workers & unions better get on the ball before it comes to a vote. What I want to know is what deal that Rahm make with them to get them to offer this to him ? After all, what do 2 suburban reps. care about city pension boards? I'm thinking there's something going on !

Hey mathematician..... your tragic tale of woe that Emanuel TELLS you to go spit forth is BS!!
For all you freaks out there who think our pension fund HAS to be funded to 100% BY TOMORROW, go pound sand or learn how the fund works.
For the benefit of the idiots out there, the legislature gave the city DECADES to bring the fund up to 80%.... that means the fund WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE IT'S PAYMENTS TO ALL RETIREES AND WILL EVENTUALLY BE FUNDED TO STATE LAW REQUIREMENTS.
Stop looking like the panicked child spouting off billion dollar numbers like the fund will be gone tomorrow because there's "no money" because the fact is the fund could pay out for YEARS at it's current level and no one would lose a dime.
It's forcing the city to FUND the share they've refused to pay for years that will eventually bring the fund back.
So grow up and go sell your panic bullshit somewhere else.
I find it awfully coincidental that a person that was in charge at our pension board (which is the worst in the state) is now in charge of our union. Pension is ruined is the union next.
Does Daley have 2 or 3 pensions?
How many pensions is Rahm entitled, 2 or 3 ?
One factor that needs to change is amount of time vested in an entity, such as private sector, that requires at least 10-20 years of service before you can receive a percentage, and if you quit or take other employment, you're just paid out just what you're entitled. This would keep the scoundrels from triple dipping.
The Politicians factored in all their public service (2-4 year appointed positions) as a way to circumvent not paying into Social Security, collecting 80% (pension) from the City, County, State pension funds.
Yet no other chump city employee can, unless you're vested after 20 years.
For example, former 2 month Cook Co Bd. Pres. Steele. Did the county ever change that perk? Go put in 29yrs and a day for 75%, and now THEY want to change the rules.
I don't know about you, but that 1% raise coming Jan 1....it was just wiped out by the rise in my Real Estate taxes, now comes the Water bill and city sticker fee, looks to me I just gave back 2% - all because of ShortShanks.
I can only pray that there will be a pension left that was promised when i retire, because of not being entitled to Soc Sec,
How's that vote for rham doing?! We told you idiots he is going after your pensions, but you still voted for him, how stupid do you feel now? Now is the time for our F.O.P. members to speak up!! Where are they? WE NEED TO PICKET RHAM AND CITY HALL-IF WE DON;T MAKE A STATEMENT NOW, THEY WILL QUIETLY DO MORE TO US!!!!!!!!!!! TEACHERS, FIREMEN, CITYWORKERS CAN CRIPPLE THIS CITY IF WE WANT TO- THIS IS OUR STRENGTH TO GET THINGS DONE, LETS ORGANIZE NOWWWW!!!!
The sad thing about this whole debacle is that the police officers had nothing to do with it. Check the history and you will see how the crooked politicians(daley family and friends etc.) borrowed from it and lost it. check out how daley never funded it and spent the money on his friends projects. Check out how daley controlled the majoriety on the pension board and spent the money. It's a sad story for the lowley police officer who never touched the money.
Divide and conquer is the rahm way!! Just ask the teachers union.
WHERE IN THE FUCK IS THE FOP ON THIS PENSION GRAB? I have seen the president of the FOP on tv and he looks like a deer in the headlights. This mutt looks scared to death. Where are the rest of the unions on this? Has everyone been taken care of? Something stinks!
Just how in the Fuck should the Mayor have the upper hand and have 4 members on the pension board and the police have just 3. anyway if the City of Chicago has stopped matching our money every payday then why should they have control of the pension board. Our Pension board is being lead by a gaggle of FUCKS, Especially Gallagher, this little prick has to go, and we need members that want to be stern pricks against the city.
Pretty clever move by scumbag low lifes Madigan and Cullerton to get two downstate Republicans to push this bogus pension reform bill. Just shows how these fucking corrupt weasel Bastard Democrats operate. They want to steal the rest of our pension money but they want to blame it on someone else. Emil Jones, Cullerton, and Madigan are the three sneaky whores who wrote the pension laws back in the 90's to allow these union dicks to get two and three pensions.
Check out SB 2499 - an alternative.
Addresses the real issue (the clouted pillaging the systems all over the state Republican and Democrat) as opposed to handing over the billions of dollars in these pensions to the Democratic machine. They also need to remember we DO NOT get social security!
Call these legislators - look up all of them and any bill on the Illinois Legislature website. Illinois
If you go to the city website that asks for the citizens opinions, you will find that under the suggestions to eliminate alderman, there are thousands of votes against it, and very few for it.
Me thinks the aldercreatures have friends family and people in their pocket voting against it.
--------------------
We need to post the link in it's own thread and see how many votes we can get.
The Daley family lived high on hog from the pensions, kinda makes you mad.
OT
Another Comstat has come and gone and ONCE AGAIN no Commander AC to be seen even though Area 1 was on the "hot seat". This guy has some balls. Blatant disregard for the Supt. He's all in Supt...you calling his bluff or folding?
Really dirty shit by Rahm, Madigan & co.
A RINO from the suburbs was leaned on to introduce back door pension law changes that affect Chicago Police Officers because thieving Daley Inc. union hacks got busted sweetening the pot for only their benefit?
These muthafuckahs want to put the rope of phony reform to the backs of people who paid their lawful share with blood, sweat, tears, shortened lives and the sacrifice of time from their families?
HELLO!
These assholes want to steal in one fell swoop what they've been nibbling the edges off of for years!
We say again... The municipal employee HONORED THEIR OBLIGATION WITH GOOD FAITH SERVICE AND TIMELY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR PENSIONS.
It is NOT the fault of the municipal employee that the politicians have stolen, embezzled and defrauded this city, county & state into a hole.
All distraction & bullshit...
All out propaganda to tar muni employees and Police in particular as "greedy and unwilling to share in the sacrifice."
Fuck every last one of you bitches... Twice.
YOU ROTTEN COCKSUCKERS BROKE THIS SHIT, NOT US!
Our pension has been under attack for years!
Look at what happened to Miriam Santos when she called bullshit on shortshanks trying to get his hands on our pension money some years back.
These fuckers keep pushing & pushing. Secret meetings, weasel-word Trojan Horse legislation directed at Chicago Police pension money and introduced by muthafuckahs who normally wouldn't have shit to do with this God-Forsaken city other than kissing Rahm & Madigan's asses for the favor of trying to either sneak ruinous changes or gifting 9.5 with total control?
Fuck you and the ass you rode in on if you think this megalomaniac has any care or concern about people who forfeit 20 to 40+ years of their lives as captive indentured servants.
Stop all the bullshit inferrences that your average, no clout copper is getting a fucking gold-plated pension.
If anything, 9.5 and the rest of his dirty-assed whores should revisit some actuarial tables and tell the fucking truth about Policemen's life expectancy and how they're being pensioned for nowhere near what they should be getting for their grief, pain, sorrow and aggravation.
So much information has been suppressed for the sake of politics and spite when it comes to the conditions, cares and concerns of Policemen.
Now 9.5 wants to stack the Pension Board 4 to 3 in favor of the city?
He has the nerve to want millionaires and billionaires like p.pritzker to have a say in the finances and quality of life of a Policeman in his last years of living?
These North Shore & Gold Coast campaign contributors and friends of 9.5 DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HOW A COPPER LIVES OR DIES let alone what pittance of a pension a copper gets in relation to their fortunes.
Why are these way wealthy muthafuckahs so damn interested in taking what little bit Policemen have worked for?
More important is the fact that we are short 1500 officers. That's 1500 officers that should be paying into the pension fund.
With Rahm eliminating those positions (that the pension fund depends on), we are screwed.
Here's an idea for the FOP to push, to allow Rahm to cut those spots from the budget....for every budgeted police officer cut from the budget, the city must put of those monies collected from taxes (for the non-existent PO's), into the pension fund.
From the last few contracts (which had provisions that greatly dealt with our pension) that we agreed to with the city, cutting the number of PO's fucks our pension.
The union must demand tat for every budgeted police officer eliminated from the rolls, the city still contribute both the officers share, and the city';s share, to the pension fund!
Hey check this out on your tax bill. Instead of the state giving us a 16% reduction for Homeowner exemption we are only getting 12% this time around. Bigger tax bills and more money for the politicians to piss away. It never ends.
heh...member this headline from a few weeks ago..?

Yeah the corporate media and political puppets rushed that propaganda thru like it was a done deal. This way the union could be demonized as greedy when the members rejected it.
Ummm ...so not so fast say the Foed employees.
Remember we posted here earlier that the UAW starting pay was butchered in 2007. The average person you talk to still thinks these UAW jobs are living wage jobs -- however since the last bailout many of them are not They pay poverty $16k/yr wages that enables a family of four to qualify for food stamps..Today the news is....
"But many in the rank and file express anger that the deal preserves a two-tier wage system introduced in 2007. Others have taken to the web to vent anger over Ford CEO Alan Mulally’s $26.5 million pay package for 2010."
Workers at Ford Motor Co.’s Chicago assembly plant voted overwhelmingly to reject a tentative four-year contract agreement with the automaker — setting the stage for a possible national strike, said a local union official early Thursday.
Seventy-seven percent of 2,317 workers at the Torrence Avenue plant who voted rejected the contract, said Grant Morton, United Auto Workers Union Local 551 plant chairman. The plant employs 2,700 UAW workers.
With the Chicago voting results in, the contract proposal now has more no votes than yes votes nationally, Morton said.
“We were given direction earlier today to prepare for a strike,” said Morton, who added the national union’s executive board will take a strike authorization vote if the deal is rejected nationally.

Where do we apply for the link card and section 8 housing?

We lose,
Shields isn't gonna say or do anything to piss off King Rahm..Shields is all hot air & wannabe tough guy bravado bullshit..He more concerned about making sure that his brand new Lincoln Continental is washed & waxed every day..Just like his chest & back...Rahm has Shields in his back pocket..Hey Shields, did Rahm like his CPD cuff links that ya gave him? Yep,that gesture really worked out...Oy gevelt, what a putz
You all seem to forget that our pension and that of the firefighters are privately run pension plans. Take a look at the proposed bill it does not mention OURS or the firefighters pension.
Our pension is the same as any other corporation and the state or the City have no legal right to just pass a law and take it over. Just as they would have no right to take over any other company or corporation.
The others such as the teachers, laborers and CTA are in fact city owned and run plans. the City already controls them and can make the proposed changes if the bill passes.
When are you all going to learn how to sift through all the BULLSHIT that the same hand full of people on this job keep trying to feed us.
Do you not think that if this was a viable option that the greatest thief of them all King Daley would not have done it years ago? Do you not believe he would have borrowed all that money spent it and then claimed it was his in the first place.
This is still America, and under the Constitution the Government, any Government can not come in and just take over a private corporation or organization.
You pension is not only protected under the State Constitution and state law it is also protected under the U.S. Constitution Federal Laws.
Have you all forgotten that the State just passed a new law that requires the City to pay what it owes to our Pension fund over the next 25 years.
Our pension fund is under funded, however it is solvent and doing fairly well. It is not even close to being bankrupt or not meetings it's obligations.
Do you believe that if the State or City made any ant attempt to grab and take over private pensions that the courts and Feds would just sit back and allow it to happen?
The real question here is. Are you smarter than a fifth grader. Or are you going to keep drinking the Kool Aid that these Conspiracy Theorists keep throwing at the wall and hoping something will stick?
I'm getting my phd on the cities dime...staying the two years so the city pays, then the city can go blow...I'm leaving this state. All I ever wanted was to be CPD....Unfortunately times have changed for the worse, and continue to do so.
I'm so glad that I've retired & been drwaing my pension for almost 12 great years . I hope that all of you still have one to fall back on before that little bastard Rahm ruins the entire City and turns it into DETROIT .
Just heard another police officer shot. Godspeed my brother in blue.

Another Comstat has come and gone and ONCE AGAIN no Commander AC to be seen even though Area 1 was on the "hot seat". This guy has some balls. Blatant disregard for the Supt. He's all in Supt...you calling his bluff or folding?
Have you knuckleheads ever thought that maybe he was told not to come to any more comcast meetings? Changes coming soon.
FOP? HAHHAHA..You must be joking you goof.
Does anyone actually think Mikey is up to the task of dealing with Rhambo?
The answer is NO for all you hair gels who think new leadership in the FOP was going to bring you riches.
Your goofy Mikey is already talking about settling the contract early.
Everyone needs to call the FOP everyday. Its time to play prick. STALL STALL STALL the contract negotiations. For years, not months.
If Rahm wants it done early, you know its not to our benefit. Thats for sure.
Wake up LIL MIKEY. 9-yrs-on the job..Man are we in some deep shit with no prior union leadership experience.. We are so SCREWED. Yes SCC, no matter what you may think, WE ARE DOOMED IF WE SETTLE THIS CONTRACT EARLIER RATHER THAN LATER.

What about Daley and his two pensions. Get rid of all the double dipping before looking into anything else.

FOX Chicago News
Chicago - Former Mayor Richard M. Daley is set to get back all of his pension money pretty quickly.
Daley put a lot of money into his government pension plan while he served in public office over the past four decades. In addition to serving as mayor, Daley was a state's attorney and state senator.
He paid $393,679 into his plan, and he'll get it back in 26 months.
Daley will eventually get a pension equal to 85 percent of his salary as mayor, which was $216,210 every year.
Daley is already collecting 183,779 per year and will get a cost-of-living increase.
The state pays two thirds of the pension, and the city pays the rest. The city also pays for two cars and bodyguards.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times , Daley’s government pension is one of the highest ever for any retired elected official in Illinois.
In his retirement, the former mayor has also joined a law firm , the Harris School of Public Policy at University of Chicago and will work with his son, Patrick, on business deals.

I apologize for stating that I don't know whether I should laugh or cry...You really must be the most DUMB person ever or just the biggest IDIOT! What the f do you think this is about? Yeah...state law - Constitutional Law...has it "Changed" lately?..."Hope"-fully not...get a clue guy - and yes, I AM smarter than not only a fifth-grader, but numerous grades after. All it is nowadays is a stroke of the pen, coinciding with the winds in the 'arena de politico'. You are a clown if you believe what you posted...ps, happy 22nd b-day, may you gain knowledge throughout the year...
NO CONFIDENCE VOTE ON SHIELDS! This goof wants to settle early on the contract? What Rahm promise to do for you? What kinda deal did ya cut to stab us in the back ya 9yrs on the job hair gel?
Isnt Mayor Daley getting two pensions
You need to open your eyes. I never said the pension had to be at 100% tommorow. The $20Bill refers to all the city pension funds not just ours. Your own words "the legislature gave the city decades to bring the fund up to 80%" should tell you something.
The money isn't there and the politicians can easily find a way to screw us. You are an idiot in regards to our pension. The legislation passed, left an opening for the city to change the time table. READ IT. That our fund doesn't need to be 100% funded today is the only accurate thing you wrote.
It's less then 40% funded today and thats assuming the $100 mill in "real estate" is actual market value. That the $300 mill in "venture capital" is ever seen.
Do you even know what venture capital is? Call me names if you want you are just ignorant. Oh thats right the State of Il will kick in funding at some future point if the city fails to do it and the fund hopes to be 90% funded by 2040. In case you haven't noticed Il can't even pay it's own obligations.
But don't worry the accounting firm said it's all good. Just as was said about Enron (minor $64Billion oversite) WorldCom, Lucent etc. Funny thing Rahm just announced Accenture is bringing some jobs to Chicago. Accenture, headquarted in Bermuda was originally a division of now defunct Arthur Anderson remember them? I'm not a child but in these matters you have the brain of one.
Isn't Cellini on trial for trying to control pension funds. That alone should be a reason not to let politicians control it. Where are the watch dog groups , the atty general who supposedly over sees corruption? We can not allow this, call today.
Where is our pension board? Instead of working together the members are fighting each other. FOP is more concerned with sponsoring a bill to remove sgt representation, rather than fighting the real enemy.
Can't get a casino, just steal the pensions
How can shields hold two full time positions?
I'm getting my phd on the cities dime...staying the two years so the city pays, then the city can go blow...I'm leaving this state. All I ever wanted was to be CPD....Unfortunately times have changed for the worse, and continue to do so.

Hey Mikey, why do you think we give a rat's ass about your degree. Go already. This thread is about our pension. Not you. I love the guys that can't get away from talking about themselves.
CPD was better off with Jane Byrne and Harold Washington .
In his retirement, the former mayor has also joined a law firm , the Harris School of Public Policy at University of Chicago and will work with his son, Patrick, on business deals.

QUESTION
HOW CAN MIKEY SHIELD DO BOTH JOBS?
PENSION BOARD?
FOP PREZ?
DOES HE HAVE THAT MUCH TIME IN THE DAY?
IF U HAVEN'T BEEN KEEPING UP WITH THE NEWS PEOPLE DO RECEIVE EXTRA PERKS WHEN THEY CAVE INTO THE MAYOR ON DEALS.
1 GUY HOLDING 2 OFFICES CONTROLLING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT REMEMBER HE IS GOING TO BE ON THE JOB FOR QUITE SOME TIME.
THE UNIFORM SALE WAS COOL THOU BOUGHT 3 SHIRTS FOR 3 DOLLARS.
6: 20pm.to we love you box car chevy. Well said. You brought a tear to my eye. We have to stick to stick together, the crumbs these @sholes have been throwing at us, should have never been enough. We need a "middleclass worker spring". If quaddafi can be toppled, so can these carpetbagging posers. 2012 is right around the corner. Show the world that we not only can make a presidents, but we can also get rid of the vermin that has brought this great city's political plague. We have to try to find and back canidates, that have backed legislation to help the"little guy", build grass root/activist collectives and vote together. You got to work against the machine and stop letting the, capones, morans and seigals, with law and dance degrees to run the show. Ok, who am i kidding, i know, i must be smoking some good doodoo, there is no way coppers or any other city employee can ever get together and really make a difference. We will just keep the status quo, but hopefully 9.5 will take a page from the best president of the 20th century, Trickle down Reagan and give us a block of cheese as part of our cost of living allowance.

Isn't that illegal?
Someone mentioned Mayor Jane Byrne and Mayor Washington. Jane Byrne loved the police. We always backed her up even when the firemen went out on strike. Harold Washington didn't bother the police. He just left us be. Thanks to both of them!

Pension fund is an unpaid position. Shields needs to be there for the meetings and votes.
Apparently he hasn't missed any meals.
When Shields was there as PO all he was paid was his PO's salary. That stopped when he was assigned to Unit 541 (FOP) and went on FOP payroll.
Harold Washington didnt just leave us alone. It was during his administration in 1987 that he didnt want to pay for po's health insurance, Thats when the case started that is now due for a hearing in 2013 It has always been extended , but Washington started it and just hope we get good results in 2013
