I agree with the second Ofc but this job does wear you down and exhaust you, mentally and physically. Short sleep, court all day and work all night, tour extensions and having to run around getting things for work. Cleaning your weapon and your firearm both can exhaust you. I loved my past job (physical labor type) but the idea of retiring with a pension made me change careers. Now that Im older and the body is been through the fractures, pulled muscles, sore back from wearing all the gear and all the demands of this job, its hard to hear that they "expect more with less". I will keep on keeping on as always. Every new boss makes their changes. Dont let it get you down. Remember, the 1st and 16th, those checks keepa comin'! Lets just hope the pension is there when we retire.

ive got a feeling that area one will be gone. However the building which has the second district will be the new building for 002 and 021 because it will be big enough now with all of the dics out of there. 013 will prob be absorbed by a few districts including 011, 012 and 014. that means about 80 officers or so will go to each district(but it wont be that much because the phone calls have already begun and several will go to retirement districts.) 019 will be absorbed by 023, 018 and 017.. so, if you work in 019 you will end up in a pretty decent spot. 021 will be absorbed by 002, 003 and 001. now they get to put even more man power in 003 and the most seniority will go to 002 and 001.
1053pm, I agree this job is not considered working hard in terms of physically although if you have ever been to the ghetto you have had your share of foot chases, wrestling struggles with offenders, etc but overall its the mental strain this job puts on you that sucks. Unless your a person that doesnt care about all of the politics and bullshit and the general liberal public we deal with that know nothing of what we do then it affects you mentally. No im not a troll and yes I am a copper. I did not vote for rahm but you have to admit.. The CPD doesn't allow any officers to have debt with the city so go away troll and stop trying to cause issues.
019 District/Area 3, will all be knocked down and become the site of a New Walmart Supercenter!
They can put the "Area 3 garage" in an empty warehouse on the Westside and no one would care or notice!
The Courts can move to Grand/Central and Harrison/Kedzie. Belmont/Western has light caseloads most days and also the A.S.A.'s let most people get off with some bullshit slap on the wrist, anyway! I have seen many shitbirds laugh and giggle on the way out of courts there like it don't mean shit!

You can take it to the bank that not all of 019's personnel will be making the switch to 023. Expect no more than 60% of the officers to go. The rest will head to beautiful neighborhoods around Grand-Central, 62nd-Racine and perhaps Madison and Central.
It is all about safety for the people. They figured out how to reapportion beats. Just one thing, 4228 N Hermitage will have a small army of officers protecting it. No shortage of personnel there. Nor for the Daley royal escort service or Ed Burke's palace guards.

Funny you should ask. You apparently are not the Police. I have slayed some dragons in my time though. But seriously, try on a Police duty belt, loaded with you essentials (flashlight, couple sets of handcuffs, extra magazines, one large handgun, a Police radio, asp, o.c. etc). Put on your Level III bullet proof vest with a metal shock plate and your work boots. The gear can add almost 40 lbs to you. Then sit in a squad car all day, 0 - 100 Degrees F., pull yourself in and out of that seat. Do some sprintz without warm ups, jump a few fences, run through vacant lots filled with debri, broken glass, used needles, contruction material dumped there, walk run on Chicagos shitty streets/alleys, pot holes, deep ruts and sometimes unsalted surfaces. Climb those falling apart stair cases in buildings which should be condemned. Wrestle that 200+ lb drunk from a b.s. domestic, narcotics arrest or just someone who refuses to go back to prison for the 30th time. Shots being fired as you head in there direction (unlike someone who once was paid to "lead" us). Then tell me that this job is a "cake walk". Stepping in to the unknown everytime but keping on keepin' on!

I work in one of the districts that are covered by Zone 1(16-17) and part of the reason that things are so bad up there is the fact that we have no "revruns" crying for more police. Also, both districts are run by younger commanders and neither will bitch enough to get more people for the district. I understand that the city has them by the shorthairs, but, geez, how bout a little help. Even enough just to put up every car at night would be good. Oh yeah, and the dogs that ride out a bullshit disturbance with a whatever-Paul after 45 minutes need to get a talking to also, but that will NEVER happen.
