Crime Down, But...

....assaults and batteries to police up? It sure seems that way:
  • A suspected carjacker was in police custody this morning after leading Chicago and Illinois State police on an 11-mile chase, all while firing shots at pursuing officers, authorities said.

No officers were wounded in the meandering pursuit that began on the city's Far South Side and ended in the lakefront Bronzeville neighborhood.

Police said the van first fled from officers in the 10000 block of South Normal Avenue at about 2 a.m., after Morgan Park District officers suspected that it was taken in an earlier carjacking.

From there, the van fled north on to Interstate 57 on to the Dan Ryan Expressway, spurring state police to join in the pursuit, police said. The van left the expressway on 76th Street, trying to evade authorities by racing through several South Side neighborhoods, police said.

Nicely done. Rumors are abounding that the suspect, however, is out on bail or was just released from a previous charge of ... wait for it ... shooting at the police! Incredible, but true!

OK, not that incredible when you think about it.

Very nice to know that some supervisors still let officers be the police. I bet all bets were off about any thoughts of calling off the chase after shitbag let some rounds fly. Great job officers.

Union should do a better job of tracking this. How many officers also have felony charges denied by political asa who dont follow the letter of the law or are discouraged to seek them by lazy dets.

Speaking of Batteries to P. O's, is the news going to cover the Sgt. that got clipped at the protest in 001? It didnt't look like it was too bad of a hay maker, but the blue shirts there seemed very professional and quick to bail out another incompetent white shirts ass!

Was on the scene and have to congratulate all of the officers involved. They showed great courage in the face of gunfire and complete professionalism in weapon discipline. The pursuing officers were great on the radio. Calm and concise, and when joined by units from other districts were supported as necessary when the offender turned and the primary units changed. The units covering the adjoining streets were able to control the movements of the offender, and there were even times when he drove past and fired at them. The officers who returned fire or fired when the offender was shooting at other cops were able to get off enough rounds to make the offender duck, swerve or at least temporarily stop shooting at other cops. He was heading back to the area he was familiar with but was captured before he could escape, and one of his guns was recovered. Most of the supervision on the scene was great, coordinated the follow up assignments and took care of the details for the shooting officers and the guys shot at. And a real thank you to the visiting Lt from 006. The A/2 Dets had a whole team respond and helped get through the sorting out of the details etc., and made the follow up process run really smooth. This was a great example of the real CPD. Everyone stepped up when it was right, and even after everything that the politicians and some of the exempts have done or are trying to do to the department these guys did what they are supposed to, what they trained to do and obviously what the like to do and that’s be the police. Good job guys.

So when a supervisor is the victim of a crime he is an incompetent political hack that brought it upon himself? But if you were the victim of a crime then it's a case of grizzled and hardened veteran working cop is overwhelmed by superior numbers while putting up the best fight possible? I know you've seen it all working 001 (you even had the Ickes for 8 years), but what happens if you pass the sgt's test? Will you then be an incompetent clouted fool with his head up his ass?

When I first got on the job several years ago I made some outstanding arrests and upon going to the detectives I learned it's not the detectives but the ASA's who want a 90% conviction rate! Burglary knocked down to tresspass, armed robbery to theft from person etc. when questioned as to what's going on and why the down grade I learned the from the ASA's who did the down grade will plead and deal before going to trial because it dose NOT hurt their record if they deal or down grade charges and get the offender to plea to time served!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I've been saying it for years. We have the best coppers in the world and no amount of political shenanigans, lack of leadership, lack of funds or anything can change that. When the chips are down, you all step up. Every time. This is the stuff that I miss.

Ok....what bothered me was the fact that the dispatchers didn't come up over the air to inform 003 about the incident at all. A midnight sgt in 003 came up over the air at about 0250 asking if there was something going on on the Dan Ryan...if so what the heck is it.... and the dispatcher responds matter of factly saying how there was a carjacking in 022 with SHOTS FIRED AT THE POLICE...with some other details... but "we're monitoring it". All I can say is that was dumb and awkward. Then she says "he's getting off at 71st"...which to my understanding he got off at 76. After we got that info, it was on but they could've done a little better than that and said something a lot sooner.

"Crime Down, But..."

Any other organization we would be getting accolades and raises and hiring all the help we need.

With this Crime Family in charge we get threats to our pension, benefits and our taxes raised.

We need change.
