America's Most Miserable Cities

Per LIFE magazine.

Guess who comes in at #6?

We ended up behind Philly, NYC, Flint, Stockton (CA), and Detroit.

That's some stiff competition for next year, but a G-8 disaster might just push us into the top three.

OT, but kind of related. An article in the New York Post states “The gist is this: President Obama has become a lone wolf, a stranger to his own government. He talks mostly, and sometimes only, to friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett and to David Axelrod, his political strategist.”

Aimless Obama walks alone

Most people like the city it's more like the police and fireman and poor that are miserable. Go to Detroit and spend a week in the city then you will see people that are miserable.

About to become more miserable for those of us in 013...This alert has been sent out to try and encourate media coverage. Would welcome off-duty police presence.

SAVE WOOD STREET/013TH DISTRICT POLICE STATION
RALLY AT 5:30 TONIGHT

WHAT: A gathering or concerned citizens voicing their opposition at the proposed closure of the Wood Street/ 013th Station and the loss of police coverage as the result “across the board” budget cutting decisions being made within the Chicago Police Department at the Mayor’s behest.

WHO: Members of key neighborhood, community and business groups within the 013th district will be present vocalizing their support of the CPD and the 013th Station. The five aldermen who have voters living within the 013th district have all been asked to speak.

WHY: If this closure happens, 013 will likely be merged into 014 and 011 and the police presence in our neighborhood will diminish significantly.

Our beat, tact, patrol and CAPS officers, whom we know and have come to rely, could be sent to anywhere in the City. When a man is shot on the street, such as happened about 10 pm Friday night at Chicago and Noble, a squad won't be just seconds away as the nearest district is more than two miles away and officer’s beats will be much larger.

From the police officer’s point of view, how will the new district of assignment be able to handle a large influx of officers? Will there be enough lockers, parking spaces, etc. Or will they be forced to change outside as was a PO killed in a parking lot last year?

Those wishing to keep Wood Street Station and our police service levels at their current status can sign the petition below.
http://www.change.org/petitions/act-now-save-13th-district-police-station

WHERE: WOOD STREET STATION
(Wood Street between Chicago and Augusta)

WHEN: 5:30 pm today.

EDITOR’S
NOTE: Mayor Emanuel was a "temporary" resident of 013 for several months during his campaign when he lived near Grand and Ogden. He should know first-hand the great officers we have and the need for a station in this area.

ST MARYS, Ga. -- Officials in southeast Georgia are considering a money-saving program that would put inmates in fire stations.
Officials say the inmates would respond to all emergencies - including residential fires - alongside traditional firefighters.
The inmates would have no guard, but would be monitored by a surveillance system and by the traditional firefighters, who would undergo training to guard the inmates.

Authorities say one traditional firefighter with correctional training can supervise up to three inmates.
Authorities say the inmate firefighter program could save the county more than $500,000 a year by some estimates. Inmates charged with crimes such as drug offenses and thefts would be eligible.

Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog from Merrie Melodies. Thats what this protest was like today. These idiots from the "island of misfit toys" behave themselves for the first 3/4 of the day and then act like spoiled brats they are that their block party is over, calling names, taking photos, acting like sleezeballs and shouting insults and then at the end saying goodbye and acting like nothing happened. Ralph (coyote) and Sam the sheepdog fight all day over the sheep but in the middle of the day stop for lunch and at the end of the day and say goodnight to each other. Except for the part that none of us would answer their questions or say goodbye. And this wasn't shit. G8 is going to be so much fun.

Didn't Forbes magazine name Chicago the "most stressful" city? High cost of living, high commuting times, relatively low quality of life (except for wealthy, of course), etc.

Please add indifferent and sometimes incompetent medical care from Northwestern's "factory-line"-quality of medical service providers. So many people have had bad (to horrible) medical care experiences at Northwestern hospital and faculty-doctor network.
