Ventura?

  • Michael Jordan’s two-word press release announcing his comeback: “I’m back.”

Robin Ventura’s first two publicly spoken words as manager of the White Sox: “I’m here.”

The baseball world’s one-word reaction to the even more stunning news that Ventura had been hired to manage the Sox:

    What?

There are those who are saying “bad move” and those who need time to sleep on general manager Ken Williams’ second managerial hire. But very few are lauding it as a great hire, not when Terry Francona, Davey Martinez and Sandy Alomar were out there, to name a few.

Maybe he'll grow into the job.

Guess we have to wait and see. From a guy that got his butt kicked by the great Nolan Ryan, hope he can put us in the World Series again.

That same mentality saw him repeatedly punched in the face by Nolan Ryan a few years back. Here's hoping it happens again.

Holy baseballs batman!

Robin Ventura is a name I haven't heard in a loooong time in connection with the White Sox.

I for one am happy and excited to have him back in the windy city.

The man was a 3x Golden Glove winner and an outstanding 3rd baseman.

Let's give him a chance!!!!

I may be a wee bit biased since I know him
personally but outside of that I think he will be a breath of fresh air and an assest to the White Sox once again.

WELCOME BACK ROBIN!!!!!

Maybe he'll blow ass. Who knows. All I know is that Joe Torre managed the Mets to 5 straight losing seasons in the late 70's/early 80's.

Went to Atlanta for a couple years where he notched a very mediocre showing...

Left managing all together and went into the broadcast booth until the early 90's, where he proceeded to amass a losing record as skipper of the Cards over the next 5 years.

When Steinbrenner hired him to skip the Yankees, it was universally considered to be one of the worst hires in baseball history; that the old man had lost his fucking mind and was hiring from the bottom of the barrel just to save money...

... and Joe went on to prove them all wrong. Six pennants, four rings and the universal respect from baseball cognoscenti for his managerial prowess during his era.

So, color me neutral on Ventura. All this talk, in advance of him being allowed a showing, is bullshit. Lets wait and see.

Best of luck to him, but I'm highly skeptical. Anyone dumb enough to charge the mound on Nolan Ryan, a big, strong no B.S. 6 ft. 6 220 lb.Texan, while being only 5'8 170 lbs; is , to me, not too fuckin bright.

He could go on to win 10 straight World Series titles, but the one thing I'll remember about Robin Ventura is when he charged the mound and got his ass handed to him by Nolan Ryan.

Only with Sox fans (read jealous Cubs haters) could a comment to a Post about the NEW SOX MANAGER be dedicated solely to listing Cubs Managers. Dope.

I remain convinced that there are around 3000 actual Sox fans in this area--the rest are Cubs haters who call themselves Sox fans.

I say we have Brent Morell coach and play 3rd. In fact, can he play all the other positions too?

He's the only one on the team that seems like he wants to play baseball.

I'd rather see Joe Crede be our coach.

Management (Jerry & the boys) kept Cooper as the pitching coach which was critical. I listened to the telephonic press conference after the hire on the SCORE. Williams spoke first (blah, blah, blah). Ventura answered several questions from Chicago media. I could actually understand very word when he spoke. Ozzie was the guy when we won the 2005 Series, thank you Ozzie, see you later. They will surround Ventura with the best coaches available. Then hope for the best. It was obvious our players were not on board with the Oz. Cub fans, lets see what you do?

Thank you for your most gracious response.

Yes I used to know him personally when I worked with the White Sox security when he first came to Chicago.

I quit working for the Sox after sometime and completely lost interest in baseball. So I only knew and remembered the 3 golden gloves and wasn't even aware of the later 3.

However, thank you for the info.

I'd love to slam my nuts in drawer as you so kindly requested, however, I am a woman!

Maybe a wee bit of anger management would help you, I doubt it though.

Resign Mark Buerhle? The best thing for Mark is to go to the NL where he will have several more effective years. Mark staying in the AL central will shorten his lifespan. If you ever want to see another no-hitter by Mark let him go, his junk doesn't fool the AL anymore.

You could hire the best coach in baseball and it won't matter if you keep fielding a team of losers......

Same can be said for Cubbies.

Maybe Kenny is getting Robin super cheap to free up some salery to go after a big arm?

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Give me a fucking break. I could have managed those Yankee teams. Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Clemens, Pettite, Mussina, Tino Martinez, Paul O'Neill. All stars all over the place. All Torre had to do was stay out of the way. Managers get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. He had shit teams in Atlanta, St. Louis and with the Mets. He didn't exactly tear it up with the Dodgers did he? You need players, just ask Ozzie and Quade. Torre sat in the Yankee dugout and tried to look cool. He wasn't good at that either, especially with those stupid looking hair plugs.

Fuck the Yankees.
