Hey Look - A Good Decision
- The $4-a-month employee head tax despised by Chicago businesses would be cut in half, depriving the city of $23 million in annual revenue, under a surprise ordinance proposed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday.
Emanuel campaigned on a promise to phase out the head tax over four years by lopping off $1 from it each year.
But he opted to do it twice as fast — and eliminate the tax entirely by July 2014 — because the deal that nailed down as many as 2,000 new jobs at a Far South Side Ford plant was contingent on the phase out.
Can Quinn follow suit?
- Sears officials told ABC7 they traveled to Columbus, Ohio, and Austin, Texas, to look at the possibility of relocating the Hoffman Estates-based company.
Officials said they conducted initial site visits and met with economic development and business leaders in the cities, where they say they were offered "desirable packages" and "qualities of life" for their associates.
However, Sears officials said they are still in communication with Illinois, and they hope to make a decision on whether they will relocate by the end of the years.

Did you see how much the city has given Maggie's charity. According to City reports :
-56 Million since 2004
-6.5 million right before "Dick" retired
-Was using 3 full-time city employees on city time and dime
-City was writing it's grants
-Used city offices, phones, computers, ETC and paid zero rent
-2010 budget was 27 million
-Maggie's salary ????????
-900,000 in pay to play TIF donations.
NOW IF THIS IS NOT CRIMINAL I DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS.....
I was at Fenwick high school the other day and in the lost and found basket there was pat quinns brain.
Don't you guys know a diversion when you see one?
Big deal... as the City touts the creation of 2,000 positions by Ford. Quinn is working to dismiss 1,900 Government workers. So net jobs created is soon to be 100.
However the devil is in the details.
Don' let yourself get caught-up in the political jobs creation hype. Not all jobs are alike. The real question is what kind of jobs are being created. Are they living wage jobs or min-wage shovel ready positions?
Some will reply but these are UAW union worker jobs and that they pay extremely well and I would suggest that you do a bit more research as to what a starting UAW worker makes today against what they use to make historically... remember the wages before the last autoworker bailout. Those wages are gone due to Washington give backs for the last bailout.
So you might say good news/bad news because Government appears as it is being streamlined. I say it's a mere drop in the bucket. It's smoke and mirrors. In the end the corporations get their 4% head tax cut and to replace that money the middle class taxpayers will be stuck, forced to pay, pay that so-called temporary state income tax increase PERMANENTLY.
Once again the winners will be the one percent. The CEO's getting their tax breaks and bonuses and the politicians collecting their campaign contribution rewards for shifting the tax burden onto the average Joe.
Wake the hell up and follow the money trail will ya!
Bottom line what ever the mayor loses in revenue he will take out on those who work for the city in lower wages or cut position.
The head tax was not a make it or break it for business.
Wow what a great idea , dont let barry obama hear about it.
Great timing. Major Illinois business are packing it in and backing up the moving trucks and now at long last Rahm is lowering a tax that business said years ago should be eliminated. There are many empty industrial buildings in my district because of that head tax. One guy who ran a custom welding service told me that what he saved by moving to Itasca paid for his move. A free move and lower property taxes. The old building has been vacant and for sale for almost 4 years.
Day late and dollar short Rahm.

Make no mistake; that POS Twinkle Toes is in it for himself. He'll cut the taxes, that's for sure- he'll do it just as a precursor to something that will benefit HIM.
DO NOT let your guard down!
he (intentionally left in lower-case letters) is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
WE MUST BECOME UNIFIED AGAINST THIS ASSHOLE.
And the new high speed rail connecting Chicago with Detroit will really help boost the area as well......NOT
Quinn is not requesting any ideas from the public but Rahm is at least asking but will he listen?

If Government was kept to it's framer's original intent (limited) and simply collect the revenues it needed to operate, there wouldn't be this constant poker game with Big Business, but now we're stuck. I don't think Ben Franklin envisioned us buying a car company, subsidizing solar panels, or opening up the borders for new Democratic voters, do you?
Sears is a loser. Most business publications agree. It's a shame for the people who work for them, but the hard facts should rule decisions. Montgomery Wards, Sunbeam etc. Motorola is another rolling wreck.
OT- G-Mac has found 200 more officers to "redeploy" to high crime areas. And he said there's no need to hire more cops until we are efficient as is.
But wait...aren't 50 recruits starting next week?! Not even a word spoken about that. He can't tell the truth to save his mustache.
And 200 more officers?? Sounds like the end of 013 & 021!!
The state of Illinois in doomed. Soon to be one large ghetto wasteland.
Racoon Eyes takes $2 off the $4 head tax and Quinn jacks up all the corporate taxes. Business will look elsewhere to survive.
Illinois will throw a boatload of money at Sears and they will stay.
Then the will still become extinct
within 5 to 10 years.
"...because the deal that nailed down as many as 2,000 new jobs at a Far South Side Ford plant was contingent on the phase out."
That's nice. Now how about a new heavy industry out on Northerly Island, something with a lot of smoke and steam and big paychecks, so people wouldn't have to live in/drive through Somalia to get a job?

Asked a question about the spare tire on these stupid Tahoes and got a CRAZED reply from one of the R guys. You sir, are an ASSHOLE. Happened right around midnight shift change time. Nothing but good things to say about those guys until yesterday. Hope you get laid off, ya douche.
Don't give Tiny Dancer too much credit. Tunney has been pushing this since 1995. Loved his quote in the ST article that basically bashes Obama. If he wasn't gay, he'd probably be a Republican...
Tunney called the head tax “one of the most regressive taxes we put on our employers.”
“We also have a train wreck happening when we have to combine mandated health care and jobs by 2014. And people wonder why we’re not adding full-time jobs to the workforce. There is so much coming ahead that employers are very, very nervous about adding full-time equivalents. So they’re playing the games of contractual employees, part-time, employees, seasonal, yada, yada, yada,” Tunney said.
lowering taxes helps business? who'dathunkit?
Once again the winners will be the one percent.

If you were the top 1% would you expect to lose?
The top 1% drives this nation - no, the world - to new heights. Do you realize Newton thought up calculus? Just thought it up. Aristotle thought up formal logic ....

impossible.
to lose something, one would had to have had that something in the first place.

the relevant point to ponder is the current definition of "...needed to operate...".
Sears is a loser. Most business publications agree. It's a shame for the people who work for them, but the hard facts should rule decisions. Montgomery Wards, Sunbeam etc. Motorola is another rolling wreck.
------------------
Sears has a chance now that they were bought by KMart. But, I am not betting on it. The catalog business is largely about Internet sales these days, not traditional stores.
OTOH, WalMart has been able to use its Internet presence to push products through its traditional stores via the free store delivery program. They have trucks coming and going to the stores anyway so the extra cost to throw on another TV or whatever is not that big of a deal to them.
ANOTHER Rahm move. But this one is stupid!

I could be wrong, but wasn't this tried before and the City found out that Illinois state law MANDATES that in order for a prison facility, (CPD lock-ups included), to retain it's State certification, there MUST BE at least one SWORN officer in each facility?
I thought that is why they got rid of the additional sworn officers from the lock-ups before and replaced them with the civilian Detention Aides.

Mayor 9.5 gets pissy
Heh...
Let's see if the twinkly-toed, missing half a digit, vile little manling will dog the shit out of Maggie's charity pals for stealing taxpayer money in the same fashion he's dogging the shit out of "those greedy coppers" and other municipal employees...
Kiss a wide, flat ass... Twice.
No matter how you spin this mess, ya little peck-sniff... Police and other municipal employees didn't steal $12 to $15 Billion from the taxpayers over 20+ years... Your political patron RMD did and now you've declared war on muni employees in hope that the public doesn't put two and two together and see what you're doing as what it truly is. A distractor so your patron can make good his escape for crimes against the people of Chicago.
Rahm... You're a low down son of a bitch for continued orchestration of the propaganda campaign to separate muni-employees from public good will.
Anything goes to protect the asses of made members of Daley Inc. in both Chicago & D.C. huh?
TELL THE TRUTH MUTHAFUCKAH!
STOP LYING MUTHAFUCKAH!
STOP FACILITATING HALF-TRUTHS & LIES MUTHAFUCKAH!
You're being seen for what you really are. Of course, you're so full of ego that you're far beyond caring.
We reckon the older men-folk never taught you about the true value of a good name, the seriousness of it and all the good that it entails.
The tax payers of Chicago are owed not only the truth in all of this but a course of corrective action set in their behalf.
We dare you... Punish the people who played fast & loose with the tax payers treasure with same hatred you seemingly reserve for us puny, insignificant muni-employees.
Whoops! Coppers and other muni-employees don't have shit that would personally benefit you, eh Rahm?
But they're all potential votes against you and your flunkies and thus must be destroyed. Right?
@ 10/06/2011 01:36:00 PM...
WEELLL NOOWWWW!
We took a mosey over to the link you provided.
Brother Bill Daley making reference to troubles at the White House between 9.5 & female staffers?
Rahm has little regard for women?
Is this and his famous "fuck you" blow-up at CTU President Karen Lewis a possible indication of troubles if not unfitness to hold any position in the public arena?
In regard to his blow-up... Was it because a woman dared to put herself in a position to stymie 9.5's timetable and agenda?
Whatever "IT" may be, Rahm wants "IT" very badly and at any and all costs.
Signs of the classic narcissistic, emotionally bankrupt, unstable, bereft of empathy, power-tripping, napoleon complex riddled abuser...
What is the end-game of him landing here?
"We had to bomb the village in order to save it?"
Put a moony in power to screw the city deeper into the ground?
O_o?
Who the fuck is being counted on to ride to the rescue then?
A third generation Daley?
Eeeeeegaaaad! We hope not!
Suspect complains cops earn too much nowadays to take bribes
BY SUN-TIMES MEDIA October 6, 2011 4:20PM
It wasn’t the first time the police have heard they’re overpaid. But this time it was from someone allegedly upset his $100 bribe was rejected.
At 2:25 a.m. Sept. 29, a Channahon police officer saw Eugene G. Hill, 60, of Calumet Park, make an improper turn.
The officer stopped Hill’s car and asked for his license. Instead, Hill handed him a $100 bill, Deputy Chief Jeff Wold said.
“The officer said, ‘No, sir. I need your driver’s license,’ and was told, ‘No. This is for you,’” Wold said.
Hill’s license already was revoked, and he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper turn and bribery.
While being taken to jail, Hill complained, according to police, “You used to be able to buy off cops with a cup of coffee, but now they make such high salaries.”
RAMBO CLOSING LOCK-UPS IN NUMEROUS STATIONS TO REASSIGN 130 OFFICERS.... this guy sux... takes long enough as it is now to get your prisoner in lock-up... now you are gonna have to take him to another station, HOW MUCH TIME IS GONNA BE TIED UP FOR TRANSPORTS?? FOR A FEW MORE BODIES ON THE STREET... at least today he is admitting he is NOT gonna hire, the 1000 new officers he promised in the campaign, are all gonna be "reassigned" ones (we knew this for awile now, at least he finally admitted it publicy)
In my opinion Gov. Quinn is a total disorganized, incompetent, and naive leader. I think he gets his marching orders from the speaker of the house.
If Chicago can be a santuary city why not make it a Business santuary city? No taxes to the business for relocating here. No attacks by city inspectors which in effect are Chicagos way of having auxillary income.
Then a 1% city income tax on all jobs excempting municipal first responders. Put an ordinance in place making it un-amendable for 100 years.
Didn't I tell you guys to use these crisis and not let them go to waste?
When you gonna learn eh, when?
Sears is still working off the last tax break they got..Look at this..
====
In 1989 the state of Illinois needed to come up with a plan to keep Sears from moving out of state.
They came up with tax incentives. One of them was a property tax break program called an Economic Development Area (EDA) which took the money away from the D300 schools.
The EDA is set to expire in 2013. Sears is asking for a 15 year extension, which was then added as an amendment to SB 540
This Bill is set to be voted on October 25th, 2011.
[...]
If the Sears EDA is extended, D300 will lose at least $14 million per year for the next 15 years that it should be getting in property taxes from the Sears property in Hoffman Estates. If we do not get that money the district, and our kids’ futures, will be devastated.

=====================
We're all in this together..ahhhh no were not. The Illinois lawmakers are working right now to reverse the last State income tax increases for the corporations and leaving the rest of us to foot the bills.
Watch how the corporate State income tax increases are reversed and the ones on us that we were told were only temporary made permanent.
We're digging a deeper hole people.
We let them rob our kids future by taking away money from our kids education. How does that make sense?
$14 million dollars a year. So you can create about five hundred $50,000 a year jobs for six months and then lay them back off if you were to say this money was going to create jobs.
While I'm at it you know education should be free to anyone that can pass the test and maintain the grades. We should enable the future generations with all the tools possible instead of building self-imposed restrictions on people and society.
I mean seriously..who knows what the person that we restrict from going to school only because they cannot afford it may have come up with -- what science and technology breakthrough may have been made.
Pretty stupid when you think that maybe the guy/girl that could of cured Steve Jobs cancer for example never got the opportunity to be the best that they could be because we asked who is going to pay for it -- a self imposed restriction.
Shouldn't we want and demand the best education opportunity for all that can do the work? I think so.
I don't know about you but I know that the day will come for each of us when we will have to pass the torch to the next generation and I want that generation to be the best that they can be and not be held to some 20th century mindset of who's gonna pay for it. Who knows what we've already lost because of that.
hey, did you hear? pbpa supports affirmative action with our pension money. PBPA endorsed mike lazzaro for pension board. mike voted for minority set asides for stock traders. yes. we pay more than we have to so that minorities can trade or pension securities. mike lazzaro also vote for set asides for women owned businesses. way to go, PBPA! Pallohusky stole all your money. didn't know he ran off with all your brains, too! losers.

I'd rather have a businessman on the City Council who knows what it's like to meet a payroll and deal with bogus city ordinances and inspections than a lawyer who uses it to get clients that do business with the city or an unemployable dirtbag who uses it to amass personal wealth and get jobs for his real and play cousins.
And who took Igor's brain from that basket? Quinn now has Igor's brain! Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Yeah and what kind of jobs are those Ford jobs? Are the living wage jobs?
Nope.
Not for a starting UAW worker.
It's not like the old days. These Ford jobs are like the shovel-ready jobs. ...$16,000/year or about $8/hour
$16,000 X 1,000 workers == $16 million dollars X 0.05 state income tax rate == $800,000 in State income tax revenue generated. Big deal.
Ha..so it takes 1,000 min-wage UAW Ford jobs to generate $800,000 in Illinois State income tax..
will that even pay for the alderman's bodyguards??
$16K/year... enough money for a family of four to maybe rent a $500/month apartment put gas into the tank to get to and from work and then what's left over goes for food. You live paycheck to paycheck with nothing going into savings for your own retirement or emergency fund.
So check it out on the Illinois Food Stamp Elig. Calc.
A family of four with an income of $16K/year or $1,333 per month that has a $500 month rent bill and only $2000 in assets can collect $400 a month on Food Stamps!
http://fscalc.dhs.illinois.gov/FSCalc/calculateFS.do
Government food subsidy for the Ford employees so they can keep up their strength and make the CEO a higher bonus. Can you believe how we subsidize these CEO's employees?!
They'll probably have a job for a year or so and then get laid off before any real benefits start to accrue. Churn that workforce baby.

At Ford Motor Co., union workers will get at least $16,700 over the life of their contract, including a $6,000 signing bonus and profit-sharing payments. Ford promised to hire 5,750 new workers by 2015 and make $6.2 billion in investments at its U.S. plants. The GM deal was similar to Ford’s but not quite as rich.
