Crooked Contributions

  • The charity founded by former Chicago first lady Maggie Daley received more than $900,000 in mostly undisclosed contributions from companies subsidized by much-criticized special taxing districts, according to a report released today by the city’s top internal watchdog.

After School Matters got 16 contributions — far more any other private, non-profit charity — found in the fine print of tax increment finance district agreements negotiated by city officials and aldermen under former Mayor Richard Daley, Inspector General Joseph Ferguson’s report states.

Ferguson, who has criticized the city’s use of special taxing districts, said city officials were unable to explain exactly how and why charities received money. There is no oversight and no guidelines to evaluate the programs that got money.
So TIF beneficiaries were subsidizing a charity run by the mayor's wife? Can someone open a formal investigation yet? There's a whole boatload of people who need to spend some time in federal prison here. And if it happens to be people with police bodyguards and free drivers, then Rahm can count them among his "1,000" returning to the streets when their principal is spending the next 4 to 8 years behind bars.

How astonishing that this is only acknowledged AFTER King Richard II is out of office.

And Emanuel's response? Basically, he said the end justifies the means.

Is there any wonder why there is a growing Occupy Wall Street movement?

In your face corruption at every level!

We'll ticket a 13 year old girl for disorderly conduct in NYC and overlook 10,000 robo-signed frauds being done PER DAY by the investment bankers.

Not to mention the fraudulent liar loans, inflated and rigged housing appraisals, the investment vehicles that were suppose to represent a group of bundled mortgages with the paperwork missing and mortgages sold multiple times, and the credit default swaps and related misrepresentation by the bankers,

This is not my opinion. This is a fact that the FBI was on record with warning us about and yet nothing is done.

Google it if you're not familiar.

Trillions of dollars in what should be called organized crime and racketeering and not a single person charged let alone prosecuted.

Instead we have a cover-up and bailout operation ongoing. Deal cutting.

Millions of people effected by those crimes, not just here in the states but globally. Our leaders look the other way. No wait.. they don't look the other way they award taxpayer funded bailouts and the thugs get bonuses.

Ohhhh but that 13 year old girl walking in the street to protest the raping of America. We have to bust her and fine her for flaunting the laws. You know "Broken Windows" and all that stuff. We have to show the people, the churls, that these laws mean something. Seriously? WTF?

Seriously.. What's wrong with this picture?

Operation Fast and Furious.

Yeah Google that one too.

Two sets of laws. One for the clouted and one for the rest of us.

It's like watching the fall of the roman empire.

WHY does Bonnie Amado still have a job? It's clear from the overload of pics recently published here on SCC that many of our police stations are far less than environmentally sound (mold, white mold, black mold, crumbling walls and stairs, running water in the locker/shower rooms, etc.). Bonnie is still head of our building services, and it's been clear for some time that she's just there cashing a rather nice paycheck, driving around in a decent M plate Crown Vic, and spending a sizable amount of time on her dept. cell talking about God knows what, because many of our facilities are still in pitiful shape. Can't the City's building services do this lousy of a job alone? Can Rahm really afford her in today's mess of a City budget?
I think it's time someone in power in City Hall take a serious look at eliminating her position, since it is a Dept. job that clearly hasn't been performed well (or to anyone's satisfaction)
in many years. How about it, Inspector General?

Its almost like that 6 degrees of seperation kevin bacon game. Daley tells whatever manager is in charge of TIF funds that all eligible companies have to give to this charity. The mgr informs the company in question of this detail. The company contacts After School Matters and donates. The board at the charity accepts the money and awards Maggie a 6 digit salary. She, in turn, brings the money back to Shortshanks and the circle is complete(only 5 degrees in this instance though I'm sure there are a few more middlemen involved). Let's start a new game called 6 degrees of seperation from shortshanks and find out how many more convoluted pay-to-play circles he has. Blago screwed up by not including enough middlemen.

Abbott Laboratories chief Miles White had a pointed message for the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Illinois House when he met with them recently: "We have options."

The statement, confirmed by reliable sources, was an unmistakable reference to the fact that the huge biotech firm owns a ton of property in southern Wisconsin, property that it could use to expand, rather than adding to its Illinois workforce.

Mr. White's message was the latest sign that business is getting serious about its drive to get the Illinois General Assembly to reform the state's crumbling employee pension plans, preferably in the fall veto session. And, in fact, the biz guys may be as close to winning as they've ever been.

Give us more tax breaks or we'll behead these peoples careers and you'll lose tax revenue is how the story should read.

Can we stop the madness.

This is never-ending with these corporations.

Are the so-called best and brightest unwilling or unable to make a profit without special tax treatment from politicians who also empower themselves by playing favorites awarding taxpayer funded gifts for their friends?

Sears ups it's extortion attempt..oh sorry, scratch that...I mean ups their pressure for tax breaks under the tired old guise of saving jobs.

I had thought that the United States doesn't negotiate with terrorist?

====clip====

Sears executives have visited potential new headquarters sites in Austin, Texas, and Columbus, Ohio, but say they remain open to negotiating with Illinois officials to keep the retailer’s headquarters in Hoffman Estates.

The Sears leaders visited potential sites, toured offices and met with municipal, business, state and economic development officials in Austin and in Columbus, sources said Wednesday.

Sears officials expect to make a decision by the end of the year. The retailer is one of a number of businesses, including CME Group, that have threatened to move headquarters and some operations out of state because of state tax burdens.

No one from the Austin or Columbus mayors’ offices or economic development departments or from the two governors’ offices would comment Wednesday on the meetings.

Sears CEO Louis D’Ambrosio met in late August with Illinois Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) to discuss the state’s willingness to extend Sears’ existing tax incentives.

On Wednesday, Sears spokesman Chris Brathwaite issued a statement saying: “Our commitment to our associates and shareholders is to be thorough in our review of our opportunities in the hopes of resolving this matter in the near future.

There has been a recurring story line about about Daley the first and corruption, RJD was shown asking for and accepting bribes to endorse candidates, and dinner part conversation about controlling jobs to get money.

It wouldn't take too many calls from his son at the White House to get this show off the air asap.

I'll place a bet that it's not many.

They do a great show when the media is around though. Busing in what they need to show on the news and all.
