Casino Dollars Getting Away

Since Rahm and Quinn can't play nice, Des Plaines is making out like bandits:
  • County departments need a wake-up call that one of their biggest crutches to shore up funding gaps is gone, Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay said Wednesday.

McConnaughay expanded a call she made last month for county departments to start considering budgets that don't rely on riverboat gambling proceeds to cover any shortfalls. McConnaughay said she's still getting weekly requests to use riverboat money for various needs.

A new report shows revenue is down at Elgin's Grand Victoria Casino by 24 percent compared to August 2010. The county is working off projections that it will receive about $5.5 million from the riverboat next year, one of the lowest totals ever. The new data means even that forecast may be too high. In its heyday, the riverboat sent about $12 million a year to the county's coffers.

“You're taking a huge hit,” McConnaughay said. “This is the impact of the Des Plaines casino license. There's already no money in there for farmland preservation. If a Chicago casino goes through, we're going to get hit again. I just don't think there's any money to count on. This is an unstable, unreliable fund source.”

Of course, this lends a bit of credence to Quinn's assertion that Illinois is at a saturation point with casinos for the moment. Any Chicago casino is going to just move the same money around to another pocket. We figured that would only benefit Quinn though - he lost every county inthe state except Cook. St. Clair (East St. Louis) and Alexander (Cairo) Counties. What does he care if Kane County or even Indiana casinos lose money?

MCConnaughay is giving some sound advice.
Casinos haven't been the saving budget grace
that they've been made out to be. And I'm no
Quinn fan, but I think we should proceed slowly
to get a major casino going here in Chicago.
It will incur an outlay of a tremendous amount
of cash that the Shitty seems to be very short
of right now. And then there's the problem of
trying to keep the mob's sticky little fingers
out of the pie. Maybe siphon off say, three
percent off the top of the take for, say, After
School Matters? Let's move slowly with this.
And please, no spot for Keating in it. He's
already made a mess of Navy Pier Security
as it is.

Chicago pretty much blew it. Even if a casino were to be approved here, it's likely too little, too late.

Potato Head Quinn's got it right; we're at maximum capacity for casinos in northern Illinois.

Not true. Many travelers from Ohare are stopping by to Des Plaines casino. Out of town money is going there. Chicago would take money from Indiana casinos if built.

You poor sad goofs think any money would actually make it to the public coffers from a CHICAGO casino?

How long you been on the job? You been awake?

We all better hope we get a casino in Chicago. Even though Rahm has other plans for that money, it will be hard for them to cry broke during contract negotiations if they have a casino bringing in millions.

Furthermore, they won't be able to screw us on our pensions by simply filing bankruptcy down the road. Casino money could be ordered by the court to sure up the pensions. It's another source of revenue we should have here for back-up later.

Just sayin'

There are only so many gamblers in America. Now we also have on line gambling eating up those dollars. Putting more casinos only cuts up that pie even more. Putting a casino in Chicago is like giving Gangbangers a truck load of guns. Trouble.

Im not the original SGT, but I think this needs to be addressed. Who the fuck does this piece of shit think he is calling himself "the real police"? The real Police dont need to be told anything. They know how to dress and how to do their own "paper". They dont go anonymous on blogs trash talking Supervisors picking apart comments and observations of someone whos job it is to over see entire Watches of Officers. I know not everyone is going to win the appearance award, but you "young jag-off", need not call yourself the "real Police". Go on and trash talk others, meanwhile, the "real Police" are being box 1 and 2 on their own "Pro-Active Police" arrest reports. Take your "paper jumping" ass and "little time on the job" and FaceBook or something else. You are in the way of working Police by the way.... You can't claim to be in a catagory of Officers when you don't even have what it takes..... STFU and GFU you wanna-be! God Bless the "Real Police". You are few and far between. The rest need to learn from you.
