Bloody Friday

And Saturday is shaping up to be a mess, too.

First up, Friday night:
  • At least three people were killed and at least 17 others wounded, including nine teenagers, in shootings across the city late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The link has summaries of all the shootings.

And so far Saturday:
  • One person was seriously wounded in a shooting in the Buena Park neighborhood this evening, authorities said.

The person, whose age and gender were not available from police or fire officials, was shot in the shoulder and chest in the 4100 block of North Clarendon Avenue about 7:22 p.m., according to Police News Affairs.

  • A 15-year-old girl was shot this afternoon on the Northwest Side, police said.

The girl was shot in the 2000 block of North Kostner Avenue in the Hermosa neighborhood about 12:25 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs...
And that's just on the early side of things.

But hey, crime is down 25%! The CPD is up to full strength! 1,000 more cops are on the street! Retirements are non-existent! We have plenty of Detectives to investigate crime! Down is up! Left is right! Pay no attention to that 9.5 fingered dwarf behind the curtain!

UPDATE: 4 dead, 23 wounded is the latest tally, and it's a 3 day weekend.

Hey SCC I was a little board watching some T.V. and channel surfing when I heard those famous words again...."Mayor Emanuel has added 1000 more officers to the street.". So as I became angry at the lies again I thought to myself....If you take away the 5-6 hundred officers from MSF and TRU Rham has MOVED (I'll be generous with the following number) 4-5 hundred officers from desk spots to the street. HOWEVER, has ANYONE asked Rham how many officers have RETIRED since he took office? No you say.... Well I decided to go to the FOP website and see from the newsletters exactly how many have retired since about the time Rham was sworn in. For the months of APR and MAY there were 71 retirees, June saw 22 leave, and JUL saw 27 go bub bye. 120 fewer. So Rham added umm, I mean moved a total of 380-480. Unless of course you look back about 1 year. Sep '10- 30 left, Oct '10- 21 left, Nov 10 -49 left, Dec '10 -12 left, Jan '11 -45 left, Feb/Mar '11 -67 left.

344 officers have left this job since Sep of 2010.
ZERO have gone through the academy.
Ultimately, Rham has put a total of 140....One Hundred Forty... officers on the street that were "behind the desk". And I'm sure when the numbers for Aug-Oct are available the total additional officers on the street will actually be a NEGATIVE number. What a sham the media in this city is. You mean to tell me not one could have dug this info up and asked Rham about it.... PATHETIC!!!!!!

Please add to that the officers who took leave of absence or disability since Sept 2010. Reason I say that is I know of about 20 who did, but I don't know how to find the exact statistics.

Apparently Onion Field Killer Gregory Ulas Powell, who shot & killed LAPD Officer Ian Campbell in 1963 as described in Joseph Wambaugh's bookThe Onion Field and the movie of the same title, will be considered for a compassionate release by the Department of Corrections because he has cancer. Because prison doctors say he has only six months to live, he can have a sentence reduction or modification. The way this works is that the Parole Board holds a hearing, and based on that hearing they make a recommendation to the Superior Court that originally handled the case, and the presiding judge of that court makes the final determination.
To voice your opposition to Powell's release, you can send an E-mail to OVSSInet@cdcr.ca.gov and list the any reasons you feel that Powell should be denied a compassionate release, and you should refer to the hearing date, which is October 18th.

This is because the P.O. director of the crystal ball unit is not here to put the cops on the dots. They're all so much smarter than everyone else.

Let's do the mathematical calculations, shall we?

More dots + less cops = more crime.

However, if you are Rahmses, you can do it like this:

1000 more reshuffled cops on the street + not reporting crime statistics to the FBI = whatever bullshit we say it is to get you to think crime is down and we're so smart.

Now let's shift to something else so we can steal more pension funds and redistribute more taxes to the voter base and solar companies like Solyndra so they can go bankrupt and take the fifth when questioned about it.

INSTATUTIONAL RACISM, Maybe worth its own post

Remember that rant McCarthy did pandering to the crowd at St. Sabina’s earlier this year. He was aping Father Pflager’s black preacher moves shouting about how the gun and alcohol industries were part of institutional racism akin to Jim Crow laws.

Well Rahm’s and McCarthy’s crime fighting strategies are also based on institutional racism. Rahm’s has been slashing the budget of the CPD by letting officers retire and not hiring replacements. He has been playing the media and the public for fools with movements and reassignment that are meaningless and in some cases do more harm than good. We all know about the officers who live far northwest who now find themselves driving an hour and a half to get to the Seventh or Forth Districts.

But also consider the police that have been moved out of supposedly low crime or should we say underreported crime areas on the far northwest, north and southwest sides. As the police have been thinned out the white neighborhood thieves and burglars are more likely to get away, as well as all the minor dope, traffic and “quality of life arrests”. Less white offenders will be arrested, while in the areas of the city where the police have been move to, where they call the police for everything, the real high crime areas, more black offenders will be locked up. It always has been like this but now the disparity will be even greater because there will not be police in the white neighborhoods to arrest white offenders. Pflager and Jesse Jackson will scream when they see the numbers on who got incarcerated. Probably there will be an order to not cut any slack to white offenders on anything.

It is going to get worse. Something that slipped by almost unnoticed a few weeks ago was Rahm’s appointment of another outsider to head Chicago Public Housing. Effective October 24th Charles Woodyard, former CEO of the Charlotte N.C. Public Housing will be head of Public Housing here. That’s the third head of a major city department after Police and Education that Rahm has named an outsider and all for the same reasons. An outsider will have no internal loyalties to anyone and only be faithful to the mayor. Their mission will be to slash their budgets and hide any and all consequences.

Public housing in Chicago has always been a bad but not always as bad as we as cops might think of it. When it started out in the 1940’s it was for returning veteran’s starting families. Later Richard J. Daley wanted to destroy the mostly Italian vote in neighborhoods in the near north and south sides so he built the high-rise projects like Cabini and Robert Taylor to house, but contain may be a better word, the incoming Democratic Blacks from the Deep South. When these high-rises were first built they were not as bad as we later knew them. But as budget cuts, graft and corruption stole the services and gangs began to organize they became the hell-holes that provided us so much Special Employment.

Now the Cabrini and the other high-rises are gone, many cops cheered but the wiser one warned that this only meant that the population had macerated throughout the city. Throughout the city we have scattered site Public Housing, many are new building with all the amenities, air conditioning and central heating, working elevators, 24 hour security service and carpeted hallways. Gone are the urine puddled stairwells and the freezing open air walkways to the apartments.

Now Mr. Woodyard may have been a great administrator in Charlotte and an honest man, or not. What do you think his instructions from Rahm are going to be? Keep these people happy because they are Democratic voters and slash the budget. I don’t think it is possible to do a good job at both of those. The budget will be slashed, services will shrink, elevators will fail, plumbing will back up, walls will not have graffiti painted over and new tenants will not be screened. The same scenario as Cabrini, only these public housing projects are now in a neighborhood near you.

WRT: "Putting more officers on the street vs putting more officers on the beat"

I think Rahm screwed up.

One could of counted the number of officers that retired, quit, or fired as being "put on the street" -- their out of a job and on the streets.

Whereas I'm not so sure changing the language and message to "putting officers on the beat" allows that...unless you consider that beating the pavement looking for work is the same as a police beat so then again maybe not.

File under: Political word game nonsense and semantics.

City Curfew for for minors is working about as well as banning handguns I see.

While we are on the subject and we have this so-called "transparent" government here. Please show us the numbers on curfew violations that are being written under the new ordinance to people that ignore them and can't afford to pay them anyway.

We should be measuring this in the Comp Stats meetings and publishing the results to demonstrate that it is either effective or not instead of using it for propaganda to instill a feeling that the city is doing something about crime when in fact meaningless laws do nothing.

In our striving to be more efficient writing curfew violations would seem to be a waste of time. It sends the wrong "broken windows" message by creating another law that is not enforced and that there are no consequences for.

OT If Rahm wants to civilianize lockup...ok, but he wants to use laid off TMA's? Those people were patronage, you couldn't even find a link to get a job! And how dependable will they be. How about they hire from the new police list. Give the ones background checked and waiting those jobs. A job in their field of interest. They will be on their best behavior or else they will not get the police job and they will come out with a little experience. TMA's cant even direct traffic and you want them to take a prisoner who is going to give them s***, trust them with personal property etc.
BTW I have know several lockup keepers through the years that I would trust with my life and many came on the job and this is not a reflection on them. But if your going to civilianize...someone needs some skin in the game!

OT. I volunteered at the Marathon today and am embarrased to be on this job. They must have used all the useless house cats for this one. Every corner I passed it was a Po either on her bluetoof or talking on the phone oblivious to whats going on. Personally, it doesn't suprise me but there are people from around the world who come to our city for this race.

................................... Amen to that! One PO wearing the CPD winter hat all thugged out. Others smoking on their corner as the runners pass. And a host of the misfits and useless inside people on this job. I noticed it too.

They never have, knowing full well the stats the CPD produces are blatant lies

So I'm working the marathon right now and they either ran out of blue police barricades or S/S dropped the ball on delivering enough. If we can't even handle this what's gonna happen when the G8 gets here? What a joke!

10/09/2011 06:06:00 AM

The fact that you are typing this while you are working tells me you are a Joke and a tool! You will be the reason the G8 is out of hand. you are obviously fairly new and it must be the first time you ever worked anything like this.

I am a Dinosaur who still has his Call Box Key and worked the first Chicagofest. I know there are handheld devices that can be used to our advantage. When G-8 and NATO roll around we need our our reporters and photographers to show what assholes we are dealing with. The bad guys will send in their videos, we need to send in ours done by our off duty people.

Never compare these shithead gangbangers getting shot on the street to casualties of war. That's a big disgrace to any soldier killed or wounded in the line of duty.

You're article was accurate, informative, and factual. Why ruin it by bashing (insulting) the Mayor. It takes away from your credibility and support base. we know they, the politicians are lying. That's what they do, that's what they'll always do.

Try this again --

THUMP!

Auto collision occurs in [unspecified district]. One non-driveable left sideways, blocking traffic lane of [unspecified arterial street.]

Driver [unspecified ethnicity] gets out, goes to front of veh., peels off license plate. Does same at rear.

Walks off into the night.

Lots of cars. Can always get another. Rich country, this America.

I was just joking about the magnetic-backed license plates, one set issued per "Sanctuary City" family...

This, while meter maids prowl 016 at night looking for "residential truck stickers."

Oh...how many of the drivers who killed so many pedestrians right around the autumnal equinox have been caught?

Maybe Brett Goldstein's red stapler can tell us...

Wow you are working the Marathon. Will that be a four hour tour max for you then the early duck. Great use of manpower. We are running job to job of people shot and you are bitching about blue barricades.
You are a stroke.

10/09/2011 05:08:00 PM

Hey McNutty stay off our posts, of all the marathons I worked, the earliest I ever got off was after 71/2 hours and that was because I was at the 5 mile mark. Most of the people were still running at that time. Yeah early duck, little or no time for a personal, and what lunch. Are you the guy who comes up with an 14-paul 30-45 mins. after being at a burglar alarm. To take something positive from your post, "YOU are a stroke."

Hey McFly, look at the time of his post, an hour before the start of the race. He's giving a good assessment of the problems he is facing. I'm sure ALL the times you worked the marathon it went smooth. Talk about being a tool, he's a sharp one and you are most definately the DULL one.

Off Duty, there won't be any Off Duty. But if there were, you can't stop them or descipline them for exercising their First Amendment Rights. Lot of photos were taken by our people at the marches we did on City Hall and HQ. We just didn't make good use us them in the media with press releases.

No I don't care how long you worked your previous marathons. No I am not McNutty and no I don't sprnd30-45 minutes to 14-p on a burglar alarm. My point was we need police answering calls remember we are down several thousand on the street. And I'm sure you are the guy who reminds us about being short manpower everyday. We don't need police on every corner directing traffic. It's a waste of manpower. Hire security or use other means to direct traffic. And yes I have worked the marathon as well as several other races many moons ago when we had the manpower. And yes 95% of them were early ducks. But sorry I insulted you junior. I will think about you standing on the corner of the next race while I will be enjoying my retirement in a few months. Good luck junior and say hi to Rahm and garry.

The officers working the marathon were all off duty, working time and a half, no effect on district manpower.
