City Worker Shoots Robber

  • With its high wrought-iron fence, multiple security cameras, jailhouse-style mirrors and a fierce rottweiler in the backyard, Perry Pearce’s home is easily the best fortified building in the 5700 block of South Ada.

But the armed robbers who targeted the Englewood home Thursday morning didn’t count on the biggest threat of all — Pearce himself.

Pearce, 53, a truck driver for the Chicago Department of Water Management, was hailed as a hero by his neighbors Thursday after he told how he flipped the script on two gunmen who he says jumped him as he prepared to drive to work about 6:30 a.m.

Pearce told police and friends that he managed to snatch away the gun of one of the attackers, then used it to shoot one of them in the abdomen.

Hopefully, the offender develops a raging bowel infection and dies a painful death. We can hardly wait to see his rap sheet when it comes out.

If the city wasn't so anti-gun, this hero wouldn't have had to take the criminals weapon. I'm glad it worked out for this fine gentleman.

"Hopefully, the offender develops a raging bowel infection and dies a painful death."

Peritonitis, I think they call it. Can take days.

Whatever you do, don't go to the hospital. The police will catch you there and you'll go to jail and court and prison and stuff.

You don't want that, right?

I'm the police and I'm STILL in awe of what this civilian went through and what he managed to do, during this horrendous experience.

My hat is off to him. Glad he, and the family, is okay. Glad the offender is not.

This is the way it has to be. But instead of trying to get the robbers gun away from him just have your own. A gun, knife, baseball bat, anything to defend yourself and your family. Mr. Perrce was fortunate. He lives to tell HIS side of the story. Fuck this government in Illinois telling common folks they can't have a weapon to defend themselves. All of these political whores have protection 24/7 for them and their families. Just how many of these dick heads do you ever hear about getting victimized? None if any. PROTECT YOURSELF! PROTECT YOUR FAMILY!

This warms my heart-here is a man that handled the situation the way men used to. They screwed with this guy and the fight to the death was on. I hope you guys catch the other asshole that got away and throw him in a hole for 20 years.

May I buy you a beer sir? Wouldn't it be nice if good honest hard working citizens could conceal carry. Then maybe both of these two animals wouldn't be walking the streets.

I work with Perry,a real gentleman.Happy he's OK and it worked out as it did,too bad he didn't bag both scumbags and sent them to the morgue.Rahm makes city workers live in this shit hole but makes you jump through flaming hoops to own a gun to protect your family and won't hire anymore police while lying about the number of cops on the street. Thanks to you men and women out on the streets and stay safe.

Just another city worker held hostage by the thieves at City Hall.

The civilian had a safe and seven cameras in his house? Hmm?

This is a classic. This guy should get the nobel peace prize. If more people were able to shoot more of these motherfuckers, then there would be less of them to victimize the community. My hat goes off for a job well done!

Slightly OT, but a hat tip to the CPD for quickly catching the guy who recently held some people up at the Sheridan Road CTA station. With a sawed-off shotgun.

I can only imagine what a brown-pants moment that was for those poor folks.

A citizen using a firearm to defend themselves?!?

IMPOSSIBLE. Not in Chicago.

In Chicago, firearms are used to gun down 5 year old children and for Police to "murder" a (fill in the blank) year old honor student.

"The second amendment, protecting the first since 1776."

Oh... I see the IL alternative to CCW: Borrow a gun from your local robber as he ties to use it to commit a crime.

A step up from Rham's riding sharing scheme?

"'Cuse me Mr Bad Guy. Might I borrow that firearm of yours for only a moment?"

CCW now and you don't have to get the bad man's gun on loan just to shoot the same dirt bag who is trying to rob you while you are on your own property!

Glad the robber got what he had coming. There is a lesson to be had about not harming and seeking to victimize other people in all this.

That robber had a GUT feeling what he was doing was wrong!

Bingo ! We have a winner here !!!
A pocket pistol such as the new breed of .380s would be a life saver in this scenario.
Have your own gun in the first place.

I'm also a little curios as to why a city worker has a house that sounds like something pablo escobar would own. Security cameras, mirrors to see around corners, high fence, guard dog, and a safe? Makes you wonder what's in the house and what the robbers were after. Glad he's ok but somethings a little fishy.

Did you happen to note the address? THAT's why you have cameras and a dog and a safe, if you can afford one.
And, it's none of your business what he has in that safe. I hope, for his sake, it's a bunch of google stock certificates.

Dude whatever! No it's not fishy. He works for a living and lives in Englewood. Nuff said. The man can't secure his home? I wouldn't give a damn about him having a safe or mirrors...that wasn't everybody's business to begin with. He has a right to have a safe, mirrors, cameras and anything else to keep his home and family safe. The hell with the bullcrap. The man almost got robbed by 2 assholes for pete's sake.
