Da Bears

The Caleb Hanie era begins:
  • The Chicago Bears have been playing as well as just about any team in the league over the past month, but it now appears a thumb injury will keep Jay Cutler sidelined for the next several weeks.

The Oakland Raiders experienced a similar setback last month when Jason Campbell suffered a broken collarbone. But while the Bears are turning to an unproven quarterback to lead them down the stretch, the Raiders perhaps upgraded, handing the offense to a two-time Pro Bowler.

Caleb Hanie will make his first NFL start for surging Chicago on Sunday when they visit Carson Palmer and AFC West-leading Oakland.

Raiders are favored by 3.5. Should be interesting.

This one will be about Matt Forte, Special Teams and the Defense...

Oh, and Mike Martz pulling back on the throttle a bit to accommodate the back-up QB, though I do believe that this will be a "coming out game" of sorts for Caleb Hanie.

".....but it now appears a thumb injury will keep Jay Cutler sidelined for the next several weeks."

The unknown ESPN writer from STATS LLC, who wrote the Bears-Raiders Preview, seems to be unclear about the diagnosis of Cutler's injury and the prognosis of the length of time for Cutler to recover.

I've always thought Caleb Hanie looked like he could be a good QB when I've seen him play.

This will be interesting.

Seems this Bears coaching and managment heirachy has had a history of not identifying and making use of players with talent who are only recognized once there are injuries.

A couple that come to mind are Orton & Hester.

I'm not a big football guy. Can anyone who is explain the logic of a team not making it there business to give the back-up QB -- some -- snaps during practice??

Martz will force Hanie to play Martz's stupid play selections. I expect Hanie to get sacked numerous times including several fumbles. At least 2 or 3 interceptions and maybe even get knocked out of the game. Raiders will put 8 in the box all day stopping the Bears running game. The screen will be shut down. Expect to see 3 and outs all day long. Bears lose by 3 touchdowns. Thank Martz for calling terible play selections. Thank Angelo for not picking up a seasoned quarter back in pre-season.. Thank McCaskys for not opening their wallets. Its a shame as Bears had a chance to go into the payoffs.

Are you f'n kiddin' me?! C'mon Haney!! I know we have had some poor Quarterbacks but not knowing the rules a QB must know?! WTF! You don't spike the ball and try to trick someone. You cost us the game, pal. Those stupid throws with interceptions and poor decision making. This is the new era? He make Cutler look like a god. And, no...I will not give him a break. 3 yrs in the league and he should be ready to go. He's not a rookie. This was so hard to watch. Thank the lord for our defense because at leat they kept us in it.

O.T. but important. Rumor mill has been blowing wild lately! Of the ones I have heard of I have checked into many of them and those who know or are in the know gave me "the nod" so I know they are true. I can't tell everything because they will know where it came from, so pick them up from here, sift through...
The 024th district will be the next to close and be absorbed into 020.

A new system will be put into place to be on tact. No longer will the commander have a say so in it, it will be based on how many handcuffs you can get onto your duty belt, there is a certain latina female in 014 on midnights who is a shoe in.
McCarthy will look just about dead on this job after his scandal grows into the media. Just when it looks like he is gone he will suggest combining fire and police duties, that's right cross training! The idea is to reduce both fire and police numbers to save money.
The 009th district will have their man power reduced by 10% and the extra bodies will be sent to 015
The new unit rumors are TRUE and there will be a new unit put together by March to train exclusively for G8 NATO, they will be the go to team for any problems.
Hollywood comes to CPD, in the early part of 2012 look for an order authorizing ride alongs for a few Hollywood celebrities. It seems that there is a big CPD movie in development and Speilberg is donating bucks to the city coffers to have stars get realistic experiences, Eric Bana and Zoe Saldana are rumored.
The 019th district will still be in existence in a small way, the Tact teams will still be up and available under the old moniker of "19", this will be done because of the G8 NATO summit, shortly after the department will formally "disband" this unit of 30 by sending them where needed, thus keeping withing the contract.

That's all for now

Dig up a copy of the 2011 NFL Rules (it's online)

Dig through the 244 pages to see if you can figure them all out and remember all of them. Especially when you haven't been a starter.

But you're right: he should have known how to spike the ball to stop the clock as it is something he has been doing since he started playing QB in grade school.

Cutler has never won a big game his whole life. He will throw for all them yards if you get that many attempts. He wont win here. He's a jagoff that's why nobody wanted him. I wish he didn't get hurt so you cutler and bear lovers have no ecuses when the playoffs roll around. Let's go Orton put a mother nail in that coffin. Go packers a class organization from top down.

Thoughts on this game...

No one can win EVERY game (except Green Bay, apparently). It's ONE loss and it doesn't end their season.

The Bears were 1 play away from winning the game right up to the end, and it wasn't because the defense was scoring the points.

In order for Oakland to win this game, they had to set an all-time team record for the # of field goals kicked in a game. That has NEVER happened before.

Caleb Hanie has a tremendous upside. For someone with so little experience, he did reasonably well and will improve tremendously over these next several games with his opportunity to actually play NFL football. Too bad he won't be here after this season, as someone is sure to sign him away from the Bears based on the experience he is gaining here.

The Caleb Hanie led Bears will win their next 3 games against KC, Denver and Seattle, and after losing to Green Bay on Christmas night, will also beat Minnesota. This will put them in the playoffs with Jay Cutler back as the starter.

Game came down to the play at end of first half when Bears were inside 10 yard line and Martz has Henie roll right and throw back across the field to tight end. Pass intercepted and Oakland kicks field goal to end the half.Piss poor play selection!!
Without that dumb play Bears win 23-22..

Your a moron... the reason they were able to kick six field goals was because Hanie gave up 3 interseptions that put Oakland in scoring position

He looked like shit when they first trotted him out as an emergency QB last season, he looked like shit again this go rounbd. Give him another 5 years, he might develop into CFL backup material. No chance he's an NFL caliber starter.

Bears QB staff is fucking blind. This kid just doesn't have it on gameday.
