Off Duty Shooting
A 30-year-old Niles man was charged with misdemeanor weapons charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at an off-duty police officer early this morning in the River North neighborhood, police said.
Mirza Grosic of the 9100 block of W. Terrace Drive, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of Aggravated Assault with Gun, Knife, or Other Dangerous Weapon, police said.
The officer was outside a bar near Erie and Orleans Street when he saw two men beating up a third man and began walking up to them to intervene and stop the beating, said Patrick Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.
As the off-duty officer, who is assigned to the Near North district, began walking up to them, the two men jumped into a nearby vehicle, said Camden.
While the men drove past the officer, the passenger pointed a gun in the officer's direction, which resulted in the officer discharging his weapon, said Camden.

Thank GOD there are still folks that will intervene when a person is having the daylights beaten out of them on the streets whatever the reason, especially when outnumbered. Over the Thanksgiving wkend a recently returned young vet had his head kicked in by three guys on Western Ave, (don't know the circumstances), a large crowd of college-aged bar patrons watched and did nothing. A passing vehicle with two females stopped and physically intervened by screaming for and shoving the drunk kickers. Fortunately bar personnel heard the screams, assisted them and called fire/cops. Bad guys arrested and I heard that the victim sustained serious injuries and the two females unknown to the vic. followed the amb. to the hosp. Glad this PO is OK and thanks again for restoring my faith in humanity during an otherwise glum holiday season. The newspeople won't remember but the vic and his family will.
These Euro trash assholes have been bad for awhile now. Was better during the Cold War.

I heard the state refused to approve charges for agg. uuw because it was a PO who witnessed the offender pointing the gun, and the state couldn't find any video or civilian to verify the PO's story. So not enough probable cause to curb the vehicle. No right to recover the weapon. No evidence. No case. Gotta love Cook County.

Why did Maggie Daley get the same full honors funeral that a police officer or firefighter would get killed in the line of Daley? How much did the Daley family pay the city for the funeral and wake and police presence along the whole route, just like an honors funeral?
Does Maggie go directly to sainthood now or does she still have to go through beatification? Can the pope just make her a saint next week?
