Pizza War

  • Chain pizza restaurant managers! Please do not set fire to competing establishments, even if it would be good for business.

This simple message rings out this weekend in Lake City, Fla., where two managers of a Domino's restaurant were charged with arson after they allegedly torched a Papa John's across town. The fire "gutted" the Papa John's building, and was investigated from the outset by state and federal officials as a likely arson, the Ocala Star-Banner reported.

The managers of the Domino's, Sean Davidson and Bryan Sullivan, were soon arrested. What was their motive?

Police said Sullivan's motive was that the Domino's location he was managing would see an increase in business if the Papa John's restaurant was put out of business.

We aren't really fans of either chain so no great loss. A pizza war here in Chicago might be serious business though with accompanying hit jobs and trunkings city wide if the right storefronts got involved.

It's easy for us here to say to ourselves, "Who gives a fuck about Dominos or Papa Johns?" because we know what good pizza is, but go to some of these places. They think that shit is 'good pizza'.

And you're damn right that pizza wars here in Chicago would involve death. That's how we roll.

Once on vacation in Florida a cop buddy of mine down there told me he wanted to take me to the best pizza joint in Pasco County. I was thrilled, until we ended up at Pizza Hut.

"Trunkings"? Great neologism SCC. And remember what Calvin said to Hobbes: "Verbing weirds language."

Royko wrote a column back in 1977, "Image May Change, but City Keeps its Traditions" about a spate of mob murders which had two hilarious lines. Four bodies were found in an elevator and:
"A detective was asked 'why do you think they were left on the elevator?' He said 'They were probably too much to carry down the stairs."

And the column concludes:
"The carnage has reached the point where a homicide investigator looked into the trunk of a car and let out a horrified scream. 'What's that?' he cried, pointing into the car trunk. 'That's the spare tire,' his partner said. 'Oh,' said the detective. 'I forgot.'"

It did happen here in Chicago back in '79-'82 a "Nancy's" pizza joint on Broadway was burned by an upstart franchisee. People went to prison and Biaggio's at Berteau and Central was formed. Nobody dead as I remember.

Tom Dart wants military drones to replace CPD and Sheriff's police helicopters. Spokesman for CPD basically calls Dart a nut and says they are not interested! I kinda feel bad about ripping Dart on this blog cause im now starting to think he is mentally ill!
