Fire Chief not Fired

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Friday made it clear he plans take a hard line in contract talks with Chicago firefighters — even though his own fire commissioner is “deathly against” closing fire houses or reducing the minimum staffing requirement on fire apparatus.

Emanuel said he made Commissioner Robert Hoff one of only a handful of holdovers from the Daley administration because Hoff “does a great job.”

But, that doesn’t mean the two men agree on the cost-cutting changes the city will seek when the firefighters contract expires on June 30.

A very interesting summer coming up, to say the least.

Just because Emanuel complimented Hoff in public, it doesn't mean Hoff won't resign for 'personal reasons' five minutes from now. Rahm's very good at the art of distraction.

Here is a compromise. Reduce the crews on the units and close the firehouses that would 'serve' elected officials homes and families. Leave the rest alone.

Time for the 'Elected Representatives' to set an example for us peasants

Good thing we're keeping that Occupy Wall Street crowd from getting in the way of that CME's $120 million tax give back eh? Make sure those kids are not setting something down on the sidewalk now. By the way. Just how many $500 dollar city ordinance violations are we going to have to write to make $120 million dollars?

We're gonna need some pens!!

Rahm will hold the Fire Fighters contract hostage until Hoff retires and until after the G-8 and NATO summits.

The one thing he can't afford is a major public safety strike with those media spotlights coming to town.

Hoff may move out of town when he retires, maybe to a job Rahm secretly sets up to keep him out of the way. Or Rahm will offer him something like a megabucks title job to keep him quiet but I think Hoff has too much integrity for that.

Then Rahm may bring in an outside Hatchetman or some political hack officer from somewhere in the ranks, could be way down the ranks, who’s has crossed bugles in his eyes. The only qualification is the he has only one loyalty, that to Rahm.

With G-8 and NATO Rahm may pull companies and paramedics from the neighborhoods and have them sit downtown. We could burn and die, but God forbid if the Second Deputy Assistant Under Minister of Funny Walks of the Sovereign State of Who Knows Where gets the hiccups.

not...fired....just...yet. I admire Hoff for sticking to his guns with regard to safety for his men. God knows we don't have any men of real substance among McNutty's inner circle today (but it's not like we had
much with J-Fled's executive command either). I don't see Hoff being in the Commish seat very long as this
battle expands and includes the union. Emanuel has been getting exactly what he wants ever since he's been elected mayor, and safety of first responders be damned! It's like Rahm has shared several dinners
with John Doty before negotiations with the unions.

ALDERMAN MARY OCONNOR'S OFFICE NUMBER...PLEASE CALL!!!

OT: I called Mary Oconnors office yesterday to ask what strategies they are going to implement to stop the stealing of police officers from this police district to ghettos. Their response was that Mary Oconnor was going to be meeting with Supt Mccarthy to discuss this issue. I pressed and inquired when Mccarthy tells this rookie alderman that this is how it is going deal with it, what next? They said they didnt have a plan past that but that 016 recently got 4 new officers...FOUR!!! I told them as a taxpayer I want them kicking and screaming! I want them to be getting in front of news cameras and filing fucking lawsuits etc etc...I informed them how "minority" districts have gotten literally HUNDREDS of officers and they replied that there is an ACLU lawsuit that is making it difficult to stand up for us....I said bullshit, in fact that WE should be plaintiffs in a similar suit! I told them how in this city the squeaky wheel gets the grease and they need to be a squeaky fucking wheel! I am tired of property taxes going up up up and getting less, all the while the shit bags who pay zilch get my police, my fire, my ambulance my new streets, my new garbage cans/recycle bins, my new libraries etc etc! I said I am sick and tired of being punished for behaving and I want my alderman to start kicking back! They told me I was the first person to call and complain, and without people bitching they dont know there is a problem. Nov 8th is the beat meeting for 1613...you better believe I am going and I suggest everyon else do the same! WE GOTTA FIGHT BACK!!!

PEOPLE IN 016 WAKE THE FUCK UP!!! START CALLING MARY OCONNOR AND TELLING HER TO PUT UP A FIGHT!!! If enough people call, perhaps she will get the message!!! (773) 594 8341... thats her number...call early call often!!! Why do you think the ghetto gets everything? THEY KICK SCREAM AND MOAN!!! We need to do the same.

Look, If Rahm feels this is becoming a city divided he will stop with this. If his tax base is getting riled up maybe, just maybe he will go another direction. It's our only hope!

Does any of that matter one iota to Rahm? Just what are they going to do? Quit in protest.

The bottom line is that the city is broke and there will be very tough financial decisions to be made. My guess is that Hoff's pronouncement is part of a scheme to close down firehouses in lieu of reducing the number of crew on a fire truck, claiming it is somehow related to fire fighter safety. The same tired argument that is made about whatever scam is being tried being "for the children".

Don't take anything being said publically at face value.

Using a very poor Yiddish accent he made fun of people using excuses why they didn't buy their city dog license. If I had $20 million in the bank I could crack those kind of jokes too. Just shows what an arrogant uncaring little prick this mutt is. How many seniors could pay those $50-200 tickets without missing some meals and medication for the month. OT- News you can use. Rahm's juice going down in flames....

Apparently the jist of this whole (decimate the police ,fire and teachers ranks was to break them down to bare bones regardless of safety concerns)so Obbuma can pass a hefty bill that the taxpayers can't afford and come in like the big savior and hire cops and fire and teachers all at once with a big stroke of his pen, thus guarenteeing re-election.

Obama’s jobs bill failed to advance in the Senate and now he is trying to get Congress to pass the package piece by piece. But the first piece, a $35 billion bill to help local governments keep teachers on the job and pay the salaries of police and firefighters, has stalled in the Senate.

They are playing fast and loose with the safety and welfare of citizens to enhance their political aspirations. Started with that jag bag J-Fled and daley.

Occupy Nashville Protesters Arrested For Second Straight Night

Tennessee state troopers for the second straight night arrested Wall Street protesters for defying a new nighttime curfew imposed by Republican Gov. Bill Haslam in an effort to disband an encampment near the state Capitol.

And for a second time, a Nashville night judge dismissed arrest warrants of the arrested protesters.

The Tennessean newspaper reports that Magistrate Tom Nelson told troopers delivering the protesters to jail that he could "find no authority anywhere for anyone to authorize a curfew anywhere on Legislative Plaza."

We still have 50 aldermen, wards, ward bosses and all the related clouted crap that goes with it.

How many shootings Friday night/Saturday morning again...12..13..14..? I've lost count.

Eliminating 25 alder-maniac (sic) positions along with their duplication of services and jobs and using that money to put some new recruits on the street would go a long way to making the streets safer.

The taxpayers need to ask one simple question.

Why are not all these camera's with the sophisticated gunshot detection microphones that are able to find with pinpoint accuracy where the gunshots are coming from preventing any of it!

Not only are they not preventing any of it. Story after story with the closing lines " detectives are investigating and no-one is in custody"

How's those new curfews working out? Not stopping the shootings but maybe it's raising the city revenue eh? Who we kidding. These corporate politicians are not worried about making the city safer. They're about passing laws to create cash flow, concentrate the wealth some more that enables them with the power to pick and choose which friends will get the tax breaks, which friends will get the clouted jobs with all the untouchable perks.

Happy 100th! 10/27

Retired Chicago Police Officer Alfred "Fritz" Friedl will celebrate his 100th birthday on Thursday, November 3, 2011.

Anyone who would like to send a greeting to him can do so by mailing a card or letter to:

Retired Police Officer Alfred "Fritz" Friedl
3522 Harriet Street #201
Minneapolis, MN 55408

Fritz is still active and still drives an automobile. He is the last of four brothers who served on the Department. I am sure he would love to hear from his brothers and sisters in blue and know that he is not forgotten.

I heard the Tom Skelly and Ron Shogren were this two FTO's for this first two cycles!

So this is where we are headed?

The CPD will is shorthanded and instead of arresting the criminals and taking them off the streets. We will charge and arrest the victims calling and reporting the crimes instead...constitutional rights violations under the guise of protecting us and making us safe that is what Tennessee is trying.

All I can say is as the right to free speech, freedom of assemble and freedom of the press goes...so goes the right to bear arms making the entire US constitution and everything this country is based on a mockery -- like union contracts are a mockery and laws on banking frauds a mockery.

As a nation we are looking more like a police state everyday.

===================

[...]

Safety Commissioner Bill Gibbons said it was unrealistic to meet requests from protesters for a stronger law enforcement presence to help deter thefts and altercations often involving homeless people who had attached themselves to the encampment.

"We don't have the resources to go out and in effect babysit protesters 24-7 ... at the level that would have been necessary to address their concerns," Gibbons said during a press conference Friday.

=========

It's unrealistic for the police to provide the protection that the taxpayer is paying for?!

WTF is that?

Allowing our constitutional right to free speech to be muzzled while hiding behind a city curfew ordinance is just as offensive as trying to ban handguns and building barriers to conceal carry that is now allowed in every other state in the union.

It's a foot in the door.

First the ban on speech will be 11pm then 9pm then 5, etc... until maybe free speech will be allowed only in designated free speech areas three days a week for 10 minutes during the allotted time ..Oh and it's all for your own protection..ha.

When you need a permit for free speech it is no longer a right -- it then becomes a privilege and we should think about that.

It's Different!

The Closing of Fire Stations means putting Fire APPARATUS, the actual engines, trucks and squads OUT OF SERVICE along with their crews. There would be LESS EQUIPMENT along with less manpower and driving further to their calls.

Closing Police Stations means, crowding what few Police Officers are left into fewer buildings; even if they are three to a locker and have to drive further to their beats.

In both cases public safety and careers of public servants are sacrificed for greed.

But look on the bright side, there will be new boat houses on the rivers, freshly planted flowers in the median strips and the Sanctuary City Welcome Wagon will get a new set of tires.

YES he was. Not only that, he was there before most of the 2-11 compmanies made it in after the Mayday was sent. He was in there digging with the guys. As a matter of fact, when they found Corey still buried under the rubble. Hoff and another chief were trying to lift up the section of the roof by themselves. 20 guys couldn't have done that. Difference between Hoff and MOST of us is he knows what it is like to lose a family member in the line of duty (his father)

I totally agree that there is more bullshit happening about cutting us city workers to the bone, but not one damn politician, such as the alderthieves have been touched.
Note that they are coming up with all these ways to fine the public now. Tiny Dancer probably told them to come up with ways to generate revenue, or they won't be able to stay under the radar much longer!

=<<<

I bet he has some stories to tell..

The Chicago Police History Committee would be interested in any photographs from his, or anyone else's career with the C.P.D. from days gone by.

Happy Birthday and many happy returns.

"I was in a fire once (not the collapse) and turned around and guess who was in there when we were still putting the fire out and overhauling - Hoff. And no, I don't know him. But that's the kind of guy he is...............

Hoff great guy, great firefighter, great leader so be it. He recently got a nice 10% boost in his salary.
Has nothing to do with us.
Two very different jobs, ask any firefighter who was a cop.
Didn't hear too much public complaining from fire while waiting for a much overdue contract.
Let the police do the heavy lifting, gotta get some sleep had a big home cooked meal and kinda tired from working out. Only 85 working days a year, not a bad deal and they know it.
Yea, still some nasty fires to deal with but overall they're fighting 50% less then say 25 years ago.
Good guys no doubt, but it is two extremely different jobs.

I agree; two very different jobs. Yet firemen are always glad to see us when they've been victimized. And I'm always glad to see them when the house next door or the neighbor's garage is on fire.

And, come to think of it, neurosurgery is a very different job, too. Let's complain about the neurosurgeon's work schedule, too. But, we'd be thrilled he showed up, instead of cfd or cpd when our kid needs brain surgery after falling from some playground equipment.

Get over the me, me, me, mentality and understand we all have a valuable role to play in the big picture. And we should ALL support each other. All you're doing is giving Rahm ammunition and helping drive the wedge in deeper. His intent is to divide and conquer and you're feeding into it in a major way.

The one thing I can tell after reading this statement is that you are a complete FUCKING JAGOFF!

10/30/2011 08:34:00 AM

ah, name calling. Obviously a fire clown who knows what was said regarding 1 on 2 off is spot on. It is an old antiquated schedule. It needs to be revamped, sans daley days and either take away uniform allowances or stop providing uniforms! It is nothing personal, just a make sense approach to cost cutting.

This guy has balls. Sure he might be asked to leave and he may, but he knew this before he stood up for his department. How many bosses on this police department with enough time to say "fuck it, I'm gonna speak up for the troops and if I'm forced out, I'll leave." Not one!!! e
We have a department of man-whores.
Be careful out there and go home safe to the people who really love you.
