Off topic: Please have your readers call their Alderman and tell them they do not want 911 emergency personnel laid off. As part of the 2012 proposed budget 108 layoffs from the 911 operations floor - mostly unfilled positions, however, 17 are active - ten police operators and 7 fire operators.

Per our own Executive Director Schenkel at the Budget Committee meeting on Monday, "we are not anticipating any degradation of service during peak times." However, $3.2 million is budgeted for overtime in 2012. A further decrease in manpower can only lead to decreased in and productivity and increased stress, mistakes and response times. The mayor himself in the budget meeting on Monday stated layoffs will only cause response times to increase by seconds. When you are the one with an emergency, those seconds can make a difference.

Please take a few minutes to call your Alderman and tell them you want them to vote against laying off 911 Operations Floor personnel. Time is of the essence. Thank you.

Ald. Mary O'Connor really went to bat for the police at the budget hearings. Staffing levels, equipment, vehicles and officer safety. Finally a politician looking out for us and actually representing the ward.

Just heard from a great source that the ammo budget has been cut by 20%. Sources said that the detective division heavy weapon team is going to be cut to make up the difference. WTF

-----------------------''Sorry, play time is over. Our dispatcher holds her favorites down and gives jobs to other beat officers out of their sector. We have event display and unit history on our computers, so I don't know why she does this.

Called mary oconnor today...voiced my strenuous opposition to redeploying officers from 016 to ghetto districts! I begged her to take the fight to the media and fight fire with fire. I suggested suiing the city for the exact same thing! Make a mockery out of ghetto non sense! I suggested getting her own numbers and "study" and educate the citizens about ghetto non sense! The aid was impressed with my suggestions, and then informed me that NO ONE EVER CALLS HER OFFICE TO BITCH!!! people, PLEASE PLEASE CALL YOUR ALDERMEN AND BITCH!!! All you have to do is pick up the phone and call! If you dont, they will not fight for us and the ghetto will win! CALL YOUR ALDERMAN!!!!!

What an ignorant response. I'll make a call and I'll make sure a few friends and family do, too. If we don't help others, who will help US?

The financial industry is too big, interconnected, unregulated, and powerful
Too much of the country's GDP comes from too few global industries
Too much money influences politics, from campaigns to legislation
Too many people have to take on too much debt just not to lose ground
Upward mobility has become a thing of the past for most Americans.

It didn't used to be this way, and it doesn't have to stay this way! Our country used to be a powerhouse with an ever-growing middle class.

Let's make our government and our economy work for the benefit of us all, not just a tiny minority. If we don't, we'll lose not only the American Dream but our democracy.

Money = Power. Too much power in the hands of too few is the enemy of democracy.

Do your part.
