Police, Fire Kill 21

All part of a giant conspiracy by the Police and Fire Departments:
  • A day after a court threw out their convictions in a nightclub tragedy that killed 21 people, two business partners accused the city of using them as scapegoats for a "botched rescue effort" by Chicago police and firefighters.
"botched rescue effort."

If the club hadn't been opened and overcrowded, none of this would have happened. But because certain people in society feel the rules don't apply to them, well, too bad, so sad for the victims.

And if any of the people involved have some sort of insight into how to get over 100 people stacked like cordwood out of a single double door, we'd love to hear that one.

The signatures don't matter and it's just another example.

At the end of the day, this was yet another example of why "Operation PUSH" doesn't work in so-called underserved communities.

Remember that the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr name came up right after this happened. Rev. Jackson "pressured" some Alderfools to allow the owners of the club to operate regardless of unsafe conditions. Of course nothing ever came of it.

A few years before that incident, one of my best friends went there with her now husband. They had dinner downstairs and then went upstairs for drinks and dancing. She told me they left after about 10 minutes because after looking around and only seeing one exit, she didn't feel safe.

The old Dingbat's on the 200 block of Ontario was the same way, except it was in a basement. And, so as not to discriminate, there's a place on Division street that, too this day, creeps me out. I remember one of the only 2 times I went there, going down the narrow stairs and then looking around for an emergency exit...which I never found!

trying to hold the "blameless" accountable is like trying to put lace on a bowling ball (Archie Bunker)....it ain't happening. It should also come as no surprise that the finger of blame be pointed at the police and fire departments for being unable to avert a tragedy that the "blameless" brought on themselves by simply being incapable of doing the right thing. It's never going to change. Just keep doing the job the best you can, go home to your families at the end of your shift and enjoy the people who do appreciate having you around. Stay safe...Stay sane!!!!!!

I've never heard any suggestion that the person or persons who started the fight and who set off the pepper spray were ever charged for their contributions to the E2 incident. Why not?

From the article:

After a fight broke out, club security used pepper spray in an attempt to control the melee, but the crowd panicked, running toward the exits. A narrow staircase leading to the club's first-floor exit filled with people, and 21 were crushed to death and 50 others suffered injuries.

And how is this the Police and Fire Dept's fault???

The front door was jammed by the press of all those bodies, the rear door was chained and locked, no one could get in or out.
And the owners were warned by the City not to use the second floor
for events by they did anyway and
their lawyers pursuaded some hack judge to vacate their convictions because of a few words omitted from
the order ? These people ar so full
of it that their mouths are brown.
And one of the owners was on a
certain rabble-rant that calls itself a radio station on the south and west sides trying to justify what happened and the host,
the daughter of a certain rabble-rouser that calls himself a reverent, was kissing-up to and agreeing with him.

Before I retired, I came across numerous restaurants that had " inciddental liquor licenses" and used those liquor licenses to run nightclubs on the second floor. They had weddings, parties, nightclubs, charged admission, all outside of the city law regarding an incidental liquor license. They admitted minors without parent along with them and allowed minors to drink and hang out. In some cases, politicians to include alderman had financial interests in these clubs. I wrote every one numberous citations, numerous times . Things dragged on for months and then disappeared in the bowels of the city license commission. And, business went on as usual. I have heard that some of these clubs are still operating in the city. You can't blame the cops for this. I was under extreme pressure by police brass to leave these places alone. I have no doubt that this occured in this instance. You must have a watch commander, field lieutenant or tact lieutenant with balls and the backing of the district commander to cite these establishments. I did not have the backing of the district commander and the tact lieutentants did nothing. In some cases, the tact teams used these places as watering holes for free drinks.

Yeah right. Blame the cops and firemen. They good a great job that night even though they had to deal with what felt like a 1000 angry savages. The night club violates the closure order, caters to gang bangers and drug dealers and drug users. The place was haven for ghetto criminal activty but I guess all that said, it's the police and firemens fault. Again, yeah right.

Attempts were made by the police to close the place from the mid 90's until the end. Winston Mardis, Daley's long time liquor commissoner closed hundreds of joints during his tenure, he did not close the Clique. Corp Counsel could not shut down the place most likeley because there was no will at the top, the very top. Black money was involved and many of the black pols benefited. Jeese wrote a letter to Daley late supporting the club and it's owners. Black gang bangers ran the joint. It was all B.S.. The fix was in. Black people benefited, black people died. The beat goes on. Just another story.

How come no one bothered to explain how the place was jammed full of people on a weeknight and normal people have to get up and go to work in a couple of hours but all the LINK Card carrying dudes and dudettes shovel the little bastards off to grandma or auntie so as to allow them to clubbing. But of course none of them had to get up and go to work.

So what is the tragedy? Unemployed Democrats get killed in an illegal after hours club that didn't pay City fees, didn't pay taxes and only had one exit.

And this was somehow the fault of the police & fire dept? Typical attitude of people of color.

Yes the back exit door was in fact locked!( There was a chain and lock on it) The third person a female that was pulled off the top from the second floor was dead. Even though you can clearly see that the stairwell was backed up to the second floor people still attempted to get out through that stairwell by climbing over people that had fallen on the stairwell! That is where the problem was! People were literally tangled (entwined) in each other. Then when we did get someone that had a glimpse of hope to be saved attention couldn't be given to them because of other patrons that demanded we work on their friend with signs of cyanosis! We were hearing things like " If he dies you die"! or "You take care of her or you will need an Ambulance! Guns being drawn on Paramedics! First Responders were there quickly and no one took any delay in assisting! I think it is time our Union jumps to our defense and speaks up as to the conditions First Responders had to deal with! Those dents on the hood of the squad car in front of the building weren't made by hail more like the fine citizens that frequent that place decided to jump on it! Complete Mayhem but oh yeah the First Responders didn't do their job!

Experts testified at the criminal trial that the maximimum capacity was 240 people. The owners, managers and security allowed over 1,150 people to go into the establishment that night. The place was almost 5 times over capacity. How can anyone blame the city? Oh, wait, of course it's the city's fault. What was I thinking?

He got out and tried to hand his car keys to C.P.D. Spokesman Pat Camden. Pat just gave him a look and walked away.

Way to go Pat.

there are two murders and at least two shootings directly connected to E-2. Numerous complaints to theFire Department went unanswered or were ignored. And finally when theplace was about to be closed the owners whinned to city hall and aldermorons, and they used cash and clout to keep this dump open. Bet they got to the judges too!
