Let me tell you who they are NOT endorsing. A Chicago Police Sergeant by the name of Joe Bird who is running for state rep. It seems that even though he was deemed highly qualified....much more qualified than the 19th ward alderman's secretary....ahem, excuse me I mean ummm....anyway seems the F.O.P. is going to back the 19th ward slouch because they are concerned that they don't want to piss off the 19th ward and they think the less qualified 19th ward flunkie will most likely win. WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP. Here's a guy who is a great guy, is intelligent, and will no doubt be looking out for our best interests and the F.O.P. won't back him.

I get looking out for best interests but at the very least they should have chose to endorse both or none. I voted for Shields and his team.....this is a HUGE letdown.

I can say with 100% certainty that Sandy "Deer In The Headlights" Stoppa and Joe "My Minions Think I Should Be Endorsed Just Because I'm On The Job And I'm A Lawyer" Bird AIN'T on it.
Now let's have all of the crybaby cheerleaders come on here for Round 2 and blast the PAC for not endorsing 'their' people 'just because'. Just because they're on the job. Just because their one brother is a veteran and the other a Lieutenant. Just because he put himself through law school while working CPD and raising a family. Just because they're nice people.
Guess what? Believe it or not, most people think I'm a nice person. But I sure as hell hope they'd tell me to go scratch my ass if I asked them to endorse me for something I knew nothing about. And I wouldn't pursue any kind of endeavor simply based on emotion without thoroughly researching and learning the most about the subject that I possibly could.
I hear Hitler was a cool guy to hang out and have beers with. They say Gacy was a laugh riot with impeccable delivery and timing when it came to telling jokes. And I know Michael Jackson was an icon in the music industry. What none of these guys were, however, was someone I'd endorse to babysit my kids.
Now let's hear how everyone on the PAC voted for who they did because they 'sold out' for future promises, monetary gain, yada, yada, yada. You just gotta love the uninformed assholes with nary a clue that populate this job.

I'm a retiree. I rely on the FOP website to keep me informed about death notifications and funeral arrangements and such. It used to work, but somewhere along the line, FOP dropped the ball on this stuff. All of a sudden, the Death Notifications page would be 'frozen' for a week or more and then, a bunch of notifications would appear that say "all services completed at this time.
Right now it reads:
CURRENT DEATH NOTICES
Tuesday, January 10, 2012 (today's the 17th!) and all the deceased are already buried. ... See what I mean? That is NOT CURRENT ! ! !
How hard can it be to get this info from the city and get it up on their website on a timely basis?
This is a grave dis-service to our deceased members and to the living who would like to support those members' families. Please fix this, FOP. I know you can! Have someone check it EVERY DAY and change the date EVERY DAY so we can have some confidence in it. Thanks, FOP!

We need a change of leadership at FOP. FOP must support its members. PERIOD. This isn’t just about elections; it’s also about supporting us against false allegations. Too many good coppers lost their job in the past couple of years and FOP did nothing to back them. Now the lections, it’s posted that the copper up north wasn’t qualified, so we back someone else. It’s posted that the copper down south couldn’t beat a ward-back plant, so we support someone else. There are an awful lot of excuses why we are not supporting one of us. This is not the same department nor is it the same FOP. We need a change.

I was told the candidate that Joe Bird was to run against was only a secretary at the 019th Ward office.
And she even secured her child a free legislative scholarship to U of I for free. And this is who the FOP supports? Any truth to these facts of his opponent.
Also rumblings among FOP elite are telling members they had no choice but to back Bird's opponent because they didn't want to upset the 019th Ward. Isn't that the reason we voted Shields into office, to stir things up?

Ald. O'Shea says FOP endorsed Fran Hurley for 35 Leg Dist State Rep.? How could you possibly come to this when a police Sgt.(Atty), or a CFD Lt. Who runs the pension board are options. This needs to addressed yesterday.

Retired Police Officer Robert Zeman passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012. At this time, all services are completed.

Joe has an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Masters in Urban Planning and Policy from University of Illinois from Chicago, both prior to coming on the job. Joe started law school before the job. He was a city planner. He has 15 years on the job.
Anyway, he is out of the race. But, you guys are questioning the credentials of one of us, before you even heard anything about the other candidate.

Very few people in roll call know who their Aldercreature's are let alone state reps etc. and the ignorance doesn't stop there. alot of guys I work with don't know the first things about rules and regs of the job, don't know how to go about getting a home loan, don't know about how def comp works. People seem to have gotten much dumber over the last couple decades. If you don't know basics about getting thru every day life you dont deserve to be slapped on the back and shoved into political office blind just because you are a coworker with a badge. I agree that just cuz one is on the job don't mean you are automatically golden. I've been at this rodeo for 26 years and the caliber of police on this job over the last decade + is horse shit. If they shit at being the police, they are probably gonna be shit at protecting my pension. He was saying that it's a shame that the PAC admitted to Joe Bird that he was the more qualified candidate but the FOP couldn't afford to ruffle the feathers of the 19th ward. The FOP sold us out to the machine. It wasn't about endorsing someone just because they are the police.So next time stfu and start listening to the guys who have been around for awhile, you might actually learn something. Shields had been more vocal since he got in than the last crew did in 6+years. This is on top of having to learn the ropes of a new gig. Given the totality of events, I say these guys are doing a damned fine job while cutting their teeth. Time will tell I guess, but I got a good feeling about this group.

If he dropped out just because he didn't get the endorsement then he had no chance to win at all and the Pac made the right decision. Rule number 1 is you can't back someone who can't win. I thought this main Post was horse-shit. It showed how classless FOP (and others) has become. FOP had no reason to chime in and defend their position – Bird is out of the race.

Candidate Hurley is not related to the Hurley's that work in 022. And, if FOP bases their endorsement on the number of family on the job, Tony Martin, another candidate, a fireman, has two brothers on the job (both work in 008). So, apparently, FOP will switch their endorsement to Tony Martin. 19th Ward will be pissed at you Mark.

Being a po in the 16. I found out our union has endorsed Lorna Propes for judge and can't figure out how someone who brags about having sued copsfor police brutality can receive our endorsement over a guy like Maloney whose been a prosecutor for over 23 years. Who got bought out on this one?
