Short Another 150?

Can anyone from Personnel confirm 150 people retired as of 15 January?

And that another few hundred are scheduled to go prior to 15 May?

And that around 480 recruits are processed and ready to go through the Academy this summer?

OK, we made up that last one - no one is scheduled to go through the Academy at all this year.

He purposely asked for G8 & NATO knowing full well the department is way understaffed in hope the city would burn so he can shit on CPD even more.

O.T. and interesting:
Yesterday's Sneed column had some quotes from an anonymous Sgt. who really slammed McNutty. All true statements.
Another unnamed source said McNutty's biggest problem is Rahm and the fact that we're stripped to the bone and Rahm absolutely refuses to allow any hiring of police.
Rahm you're an evil, rotten bastard. You sure seem to find money whenever you have a pet project but when it comes time to allocate money for hiring or our pension you simply cry broke.
Karma can be a real bitch Rahm and I'm quite sure someday you'll get what 's coming to you.

The city is broke. There just is no money left. It has all been stolen.

Paying for the generous pensions the city gave its employees is a bill they haven't even started to deal with yet. That willeat another big chunk up.

Given that most of the city budget is employees, a lot of that is going to come out of a reduced work force.

Obviously not someone who knows what they are talking about. The 49 recruits currently in the academy are there WITH federal funds. Remember the CTA funding item last year. So tell that midget one hour a day instructor he doesn't know what he is talking about.

FYI there are probably hundreds of recruits processed since there are at least 10 a day for the past few months coming to get their lie box test. I am assuming that is the last step in the process.

It is sad. I spotted this in yesterday's Scum-Times:

Bidders Buy Up City’s Old Stuff: Copier Toner, Table Saw, Mercedes SUV

City officials are doing what frantic penny-pinchers have done for years: They’re searching every nook and cranny for old fax machines, abandoned SUVs, unsold sports banners and other surplus property to auction online.

City officials now aim to collect $4.6 million from the online auctions this year by finding even more junk to get rid of.

http://www.suntimes.com/business/10032346-478/bidders-buy-up-citys-old-stuff-copier-toner-table-saw-mercedes-suv.html

Too bad they couldn't find an auctioneer in Chicago or Illinois to handle this. Instead, a Utah based auctioneer will collect the fees for their auction services. Nice going Rahm, you dickhead!

"Native" south or west sides? When the "greatest generation" lived on the south side the neighborhoods were beautiful. The southside went to hell after the great migration from Mississippi. The democrat's welfare system was quite appealing.

Why would anyone want to retire before the G8/NATO summit? After a career of service, you owe it to Rahm to put your life and limb on the line after paying for all the gear you'll need to protect yourself. Considering the size of the department, it would not be surprising if 500 or more employees left each year due to retirement or other reasons. Just normal attrition.

It seems like the city has decided to reduce the number of police employees by attrition rather than having to lay people off. most places are still more in the layoff mode than the attrition mode for reductions in force. count what few blessing you have.

I would not be one bit surprised if the department ended up well under 10,000 employees. That would seem to be about where the numbers would indicate it has to be. That would indicate perhaps another 5-10 years of few or no new hires.

Be thankful you are not employed in other city departments that will be hit much harder. I expect some departments to be closed entirely and others to have the number of employees reduced by as much as 50%. There just are no other options right now to dealing with the city's financial crisis.

Has anyone asked the question of the mayor or the superintendent what the staffing formula is? Believe it or not, there are mathematical formulas to base staffing on. What is the one the Chicago Police Department uses? There must be one, Surely, you wouldn't run the number of officers down based purely on politics and guess work? When the superintendent came to a department he had no familiarization with, somebody must have said, based on these calculations, these are the number of police we need. Calculations not based on solely on violent crime, but on population, total area covered, all crime, enforcement activities, etc. Right?

An idea whose time has come, and frankly it makes a lot of sense. Seems a concept is being worked on that will take ALL of the officers of the Desk and out of the office. Replacing them with- Recently retired officers

To Wit: Retired P.O.s & Sgts who are in decent health may have the oppurtunity to return to work. (Seems post-retirement that people go thru phases #1) Like im on furlo #2) Whoo Hoo- Im retired #3) Damn- Im retired...Now What- Waiting to die?) Watched my Dad go thru it, and now watching a Neighbor going thru it now- he is in phase 2.

The Dept is realizing the the Brain drain/experience from the retirements. They are trying to figure out how to put more bodies on the streets, and keep the desks etc. staffed. By using those who retired outta fear or the 55/paid medical or those who left mandatorily it saves them from putting recruits into the academy and the associated cost of training. A retired guy probably could be brought upto speed in a matter of a week or so.

The one Bid spot would stay on the desk supplimented by 2 or 3 retired guys. I can come up with a buck of reasons that some guys would come outta retirement to work an inside spot. (my dad would have done it in a heartbeat to get away from mom for a few hours a day!)

I wanted to get on the department for years and now I wonder what the F was I thinking. The city doesn't care about the people that take care of the citizens on the city and make sure order is kept by the savages of the city.
I've never seen so much help to keep these savages in power. Will the retard we call mayor ever see what we see and go through. We get shot at, beat up, told what to do by shitheads, yelled at, disrespected and the list can go on and on. Anyway.... We need more officers on the street and I really hope May teaches the piece of shit Mayor a lesson and hire more officers. If not we as a department should do bare minimum and arrest only who we really need to and stop writing any tickets until we get more officer in the academy. Them maybe this city will take us more serious, I know that is wishful thing.
Thank you Chicago for caring about the police and everything we do for you......not.... 20 yrs and I'm out

GO AFTER the Politicians in this city.

The Aldermen and women wear a badge...they are legally allowed to be recorded without a wiretap permit from the courts because the City Alderpeople are classified as LEO and can Carry. Same for the Mayor. Same for ALL City Directors.

No City Employee has the legal expectation to privacy while inside of a City Facility.

So what if sgts retire, what is the matter, youse guys need 24 hr. a day supervision, youse guys need someone to wipe your ass? Man up, you should be a real policeMAN. Stop whinning or ypu will soon have all women supervising you. I was 20 yrs old on the streets of Fillmore making most of my own decesions, ypou only called a sgt if it was to his advantage or ypou shot someone. Go ahead, call for a sgt and wehile you a waiting for her/him ypu can stick one thumb up your ass and the other in your nose for two hours while a riot is devoping. Not so long ago if a guy made sgt. lt. or capt he would be happy with his new station in life and he would try to learn his job and do it the right way. Now if you make a body a sgt. they have already set their sites on at least dept chief even if they should have never been a gt. to begin with. They are just too many uncle=daddys taking care of their whore relatives.

Don't bank on it. There isn't a two party system anymore. They are all in it together. A Romney election would only cause the bus to go over the cliff at a slower pace, but it's still going over.

Our only chance at turning this country around is electing a true conservative, a-la Ronald Reagan, who coincidentally, was hated by the republican establishment. I really don't think there is one in the race for the republicans. If Palin runs as an independent there is hope for this country.

If the city is budgeted for 13,500 officers and we only have around 9,500 officers with no plans to hire more. Do we the tax payers get a tax rebate and tax reduction? Where did that budgeed money go?

Simple questions never asked by the media.

1/16/2012 10:38:00 AM

The money saved by under manning the police department will be misspent on more Mayor pet projects and raises for his and the alderman's staff. More flower pots and wrought iron.

So Mr. & Ms. Taxpayer, ask the Mayor: "I haven't seen a copper patrolling my block in 3 months. Where is that money being spent?".

1/16/2012 11:03:00 AM

First of all it was a decrease because our whole 6% worth of increases over a 5 year period did not keep pace with rising costs. So we are by far making less money than we did 5 years ago. I have had every tax and utility go up in my house in the last 5 years including my water bill and now city sticker and they're not done raising that water bill. That's going to keep rising for the next 4 years in a row. The value of my house has plummeted yet my taxes seem to keep going up. I haven't even figured out how the hell that works exactly. For those 1000's of men and women that would do this job for alot less... they may be getting their chance sooner than you think. Ofcourse, the corruption and theft that goes with shitty wages on this job like in the 20's will return with a vengeance. You'll also have people of the same caliber as the meter maids and traffic control people running around with guns and arrest powers. That will be real good. You like to complain about police misconduct, brutality, corruption, and bad shootings now just wait until the police department is made up of a bunch of assholes making $10.00 an hour and nothing to lose.

You hit the nail right on the head!

Rahm & McMouthy WILL ride off into the sunset of bigger & better things (only in their narrow world-view) after totally destroying this city. Period.

All the people who have talked BIIIGGG shit over the years about how they will work this job for reduced pay and benefits will have their chance to man up or shut the fuck up after the smoke clears.

It WILL be the alderfool wet-dream of CPD dissolved to $10.00 an hour
Chicago Cocked-Hat Security & Public Safety Customer Service Agents.

Heh... It would be amusing to roll by and see the shit-talkers looking most offended because they'll have to stand in line and compete with the catered to constituents, los pueblos de la ciudad santuario and all the other dicey & sketchy dead-enders for the priviledge of wearing the cocked-hat.

Most people with good sense are seeing what The Police have to contend with, so the shit-talker argument of "thousands of people are lined up for your jobs so just quit already" is a hollow one...

Hard economic times always makes people lose their minds at the though that somebody so "lowly" as a Policeman seemingly has some semblance of stability.

Most people didn't give a damn about Policing or Policemen during "boom times."

Now? We're the controversial flash-point du jour.

It's a mean & hateful season to be The Police now, isn't it?

HEY SCC,

LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE.

BUY IT FROM THE CITY NOW. Guys it covers 80% of your income. I have had this policy deducted from my checks for 16 years now. its like 25.00 a month and worth every penny. Most guys don't even know they City offers this to us.

1/15/2012 09:13:00 AM

Benefits Mgmt City of Chicago states it only covers 60 percent of your income.

So does that mean you collect 60% of your salary(from the insurance you are paying for) in addition to the 50% you are strapped with when on disability? Or does that mean the insurance you are paying for is only going to kick in a additional 10%?
--------------
The website says 'collect up to 60 percent' and 'only certain disabilities qualify'.

Then I got to report to the training academy for 6 months and pay $4,500 out of my pocket just to buy the gear required to do the job such as a gun and uniforms. Right, because when the Revs, Feds, Channel 2 and "public outrage" demand my hide I'm sure YOU will be there to help.

The time has come for strategic de-policing. Let society see the wound they have incurred with no bandages applied.

Sorry fine citizen I can't do that anymore. You didn't like it when I did stop "the animal" in the past. You thought we were messing with the poor misguided youth of America. You went as far as to video tape me (leaving only what you wanted to be seen) and make complaints on me. So again Im sorry but I have a family to feed and support, so I will not stop (I'll read between your lines- the black or hispanic)just because he is walking freely down your street and not breaking any laws "YET" Good luck Mr. Citizen and also you can thank Rahm, Garry, Daley, Quinn, Madigan and a few other politicians for this.

Do you still call yourself the police? I bet you do. You probably even tell war stories don't you? Thats why the savages have zero respect because of "officers" like you. Grow some balls. From two years on the job to twenty years on the job, have some fuckin pride. Be the police again. We have to show these new recruits coming out of the academy the last year, that dont have a fucking clue, that WE need to be the police again.

Until there is documented proof that the city needs more officers none will be hired. The murder rate has not gone up. Gun recoveries last year were way up over 2010. The crime rate is not up. So if you were the mayor would you be in a hurry to hire more? As long as you have idiot po s that volunteer to have their contractual rights violated and continue to go above and beyond, nothing will change..

1/16/2012 07:14:00 PM

Very good point. Officers keep bitching about low manpower but if you were the C.E.O. of a company and if productivity increased year over year, would you hire more employees? It's elementary my dear Watson.

I'll tell you what... you show the new recruits how to be the police and smile for the cameras. I'm going to write a few parkers, go home to my family, still have my paycheck deposited, my house, my freedom, and my assets in tact. Anybody that thinks you can "be the police again" in this day and age is fucking delusional. You're not even allowed to make an honest mistake on this job now without severe repercussions. Go ahead and just give Rahm and McCarthy an excuse to fire your ass. They're looking to thin the herd any way they can.

P.S. I don't tell war stories because I don't even talk about this shitty job when I'm off duty and I sure as hell don't let anyone know that I'm the police. I don't know what we are anymore but none of us are the police. We're more like report/ticket writers. The few that are still running around acting like the real police will be weeded out sooner rather than later... you can count on it.

What the fuck is this? a fake job? You think the majority of us just walked the fuck onto this job with no effort? I had to wait 4 years just to be fucking called for it after paying for and passing a written exam that 25,000 other people took. I then had to take a psych exam, oral psych evaluation, medical exam, 2 drug tests, 2 power tests, background check, interview with a background investigator, fill out mountains of paperwork, and produce 2 years of college credit. Then I got to report to the training academy for 6 months and pay $4,500 out of my pocket just to buy the gear required to do the job such as a gun and uniforms. Then train for another 3 months with an FTO. So what's it like going to find a "REAL JOB" asshole?

1/17/2012 07:14:00 AM

I believe the job he's talking about is the one where you're a paper away from having your master's and they start you at 30k, your benefits don't start till after your 90 day probation so you end up at the County Hospital so you can afford to treat your athlete's food, you basically get little to no comp time, no overtime..they conveniently forget to tell your department about "summer hours" until the last day you get to use them, they ask you to come in on the weekends and "volunteer" for extra work that gets you no pay, no credit, no preference...then you get excited because you get a 4k raise until you realize a week later that you're still making 34k, plus they pass you over for the internal openings and the one they offer you has NO PAY CHANGE...and you still owe Sallie Mae thousands of dollars. I think that's the job he is talking about, the one causing all the previously white collar career bound people to have a change of heart. Fact is, I like law enforcement but all jokes aside I've never interviewed for a position with a higher salary than a copper's with a great resume, good references, military background, education, civic involvement and everything else. The jobs outside the police department are much worse when it comes to pay and benefits. My dad hated when I said I wanted to be a cop and tried to talk me out of it. He wanted me to "have it better than him." After I broke down the math and opportunities to him and he watched me a few years, guess whose my biggest fan? It does get much worse than this my friend.

"Native" south or west sides? When the "greatest generation" lived on the south side the neighborhoods were beautiful. The southside went to hell after the great migration from Mississippi. The democrat's welfare system was quite appealing.

1/16/2012 09:20:00 AM

The greatest generation were benefactors of government aid and military benefits, the same ones I used. Let's not pretend like the middle class wasn't heavily financed and built up by the federal government.I have the utmost respect for them and they paved the way for us newjack service members but lets not kid ourselves. I don't care who moves in your neighborhood, if there is a high rate of unemployment and low wages there will be a high rate of everything else you don't want. My grandfather is the hardest working man Ive ever witnessed and didnt stop until he got old, fell off a tractor while working and was pinned under it for about a day...old school farmhand type of worker that moved here for the opportunity. You need to read some history before you just run off at the mouth. People came here to work. Of course there were bums in the mix but has that ever not been the case?

I have been the POLICE for well over twenty years and I have saved a few lives and a lot of asses during that time. Now I try to teach all that to a lot of new people and I am glad the smart ones listen.

Now here is a question for everyone who ever wore a blue shirt on this job no matter what rank you are now.

Did we ever need some twerp from the FBI or some Bozo from the NYPD to tell us how to run this Department?

Stay Safe and take that attitude with you to work.

I hate to take up your time with this, but do people really believe that there were 13,500 PO’s (Blue shirts) at some point in the their career? Anytime I have heard that number it always was referred to as a department strength. That being said I took the Position/Salary Schedule and ran the title codes. Here are the results:

9161 PO 9,422
9206 ET's 93
9174 Police Agent 21
9170 PO-Armorer 00
9169 PO-Mounted 25
9168 PO-Marine 38
9164 PO-FTO 67
9163 PO-Print Tech 13
9155 PO-Arbit 12
9153 PO- Expl K9 27
9152 PO-K9 24
9151 PO-Traf Spec 24
9126 Police Tech 8
9165 PO-Detective 971
9213 Firearm Tech I 2
9201 PO-For Inv I 19
9166 PO-Sup Laten 1
9160 PO-Secu Spec 12
9158 Expl Tech 18
9156 PO-Supv Sub Abuse Cns 1
9015 PO-Legal Officer I 14
9171 Sergeant 1,117
9202 PO-Forensic Inv II 0
9173 Lieutenant 206
9159 Expl Tech II 0
9016 Legal Off II 5
9175 Captain/XO 43
9157 Expl Tech III 0
9017 Legal Officer III 0
9752 Commander 46
9796 ADS/Deputy Chief 7
9785 Chief 9
9781 1st Deputy 1

Add them up and if I didn’t screw up my math the GRAND TOTAL of SWORN PERSONNEL is: 12,236 (Not counting the Sup’t)…. Now granted I cannot account for those on the medical and light/convalescent duty, but this is the number so if we go with the 13,500 number always quoted we are deficient 1,264 sworn personnel…. This was as of 11 January 2012, I know as of today's date we lost 10 sergeants....

The ideal date to retire for continuity of receiving paychecks and pension checks is the 15th of the month. 15 May sounds like a PERFECT retirement date to me!

1/16/2012 02:23:00 AM

Under 55 years of age, the optimal day is 15 February, if you do not care, want or need to wait for an anniversary date.

55 years of age and over, the optimal day is 15 November, again, if you do not care, want or need to wait for an anniversary date.

Otherwise, the 15th of any month you desire is as good as the 15th of any other month.

And, if you have to go because the job et al just makes you sick to your stomach and you cannot wait any longer, or you hit the mega-millions jackpot or powerball, you can go any fucking day your heart desires!

The city and FOP should have been funding the pension properly in the first place. I asked before how come we don't have 80/20 retirement? I was told by a previous FOP rep. The pension was never intended to be funded that way.

So then we're arguing about the quality of the benefits between the job of Police Officer and other jobs. Well that argument can always be made by anyone in a worse job. I'm sure the guy working at McDonald's thinks the guy starting at 30k a year is doing too well. Let's give you some more police facts though. When I started with the CPD 12 years ago I was making 33.5 k per year. It cost us 4.5k just to join. We were on probation with little to no benefits for an entire year and could be fired for no reason whatsoever during that time. Do we make a decent buck on the CPD... sure we do, but with that comes the fact that you might not go home, you can be injured, fired, sued, killed. You can be disciplined for countless infractions and for decisions you had seconds to make in a dangerous situation, by some asshole that now has days to monday morning quarterback what you did from behind his desk. You get to work midnights, afternoons, rotating shifts, holidays. Get to go to court on your days off. Just about everyone hates your guts. You get your lifespan shortened from the stress and hours (this is a universal fact of policing). My intention isn't to complain though. This is a decent job, with decent benefits, and I'm glad I have a job especially in these tough economic times. My intention here is to point out that this is a "REAL JOB". It wasn't easy to get, it isn't easy to do. Our benefits and pay are earned and deserved by the majority of us. I'm just tired of people making this job out to be all peaches and cream like you just walk the fuck on and start collecting a 70k a year salary from day one and don't have to do shit to receive it. And don't even get my started on promotional opportunities. If you've got 10 or less years on the CPD currently, you haven't even been afforded the opportunity for a promotion. My point is... this is a REAL JOB and it has both good and bad aspects to it like every other job. Stop making the police out to be do nothings sitting on piles of riches because it just ain't true.

And by the way just so you'll know who you are. Read the book titled "A Traitor To His Class." Notice I wrote class. Too many jag off, no balls, pussified white shirts that cry over trrs, fear ass beatings, run away with tasers in their cars, fearful of the boogy man lawsuits and ipra because they were never working police! This is what supervises in these districts for the most part. The tact secratary made Capt now reviews, and comments negatively over every arrest you make. Tells you he will help the bad guy put a case on you rather then chance losing his spot because your out there doing your job! They create watches full of dogs who dot i and cross t for parkers with pressed uniforms but fear every step a real cop takes!!
