If It Ain't Nailed Down...

  • City officials are doing what frantic penny-pinchers have done for years: They’re searching every nook and cranny for old fax machines, abandoned SUVs, unsold sports banners and other surplus property to auction online.

Their efforts, per Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s do-more-with-less edict, collected $3.6 million in winning bids in 2011 — double the $1.8 million take in 2010.

City officials now aim to collect $4.6 million from the online auctions this year by finding even more junk to get rid of.

There's a lot of stuff lying around, collecting dust, waiting to be sold. Of course, we're sure quite a bit of it was bought at a pretty penny, enriching the chosen few who's hands the connected contracts passed through. And now the taxpayers get pennies on the dollar years later. Ah Chicago.

ahhh, i just checked out the site for the online autions... its all pretty much old crap. There are squad cars for sale that dont run, missing parts and with over 150,000 miles. Some bids are over 1500 for those which isnt too bad for a bunch of scrap. What I did find funny is that they are selling 13 small blue strobe lights. I pull up the picture and what are pictured??? the small strobes from ontop of the blue light pod cameras.. Hmmm, even selling off some of those huh.. now thats something that could save us a ton of money!

Too bad they couldn't have found a local auctioneer to handle it. As it stands, all the money paid to the auction company is going to be going to Utah instead of being spent locally.

Right on the money SCC!

Like a bunch of damn Memphis Town crack-heads looting/plundering the house after they heard Big Momma died.

The only metal left in this joint will be the nails in the floor...

Pretty much what you do when you're bankrupt. Liquidate assets. Sell everything you can.

Don't be surprised if our property isn't seized soon under the eminent domain property laws because some Asian company wants it to put up a sweat shop. Sure..it's for the common good. We need the money to pay shortshanks debts and let's not forget the ol' it will create those much needed jobs b.s..

Put up that Daley center and the Picasso and all that other scrap iron. Brings back too many bed memories.

Whatever happened to the idea of cutting down to 25u aldercreatures. Im sure the city would save money with half as many thieves and their familoes stealing from the city taxpayers. I think that the remap plan with only 25the aldercreatures needs to be supported

Kind of like the plat of HP computers and Kevlar helmets that has been dwindling as they sit on the Homan sq dock for past year since they disbanded MSF.

Or having Area 2 dicks sitting on ground answering phones because they took out all of their furniture. They should plop some pillow down and rent the space as a prayer or yoga center to make some extra cash.

And even better that out of the 65million recieved for hosting this Obummer presser in May, peeps have to dole out $1000 to join thaf MFF.

This city government is a joke.

OT but true especially with this post. About a week ago, there were a few posts about take home vehicles and the misuse of them by non emergency personnel. This scandal hit city hall about a month ago after THE I TEAM launched an undercover investigation with regards to take home vehicles and what those employees are doing with them.. I guess City hall was warned about Chuck Goudie's investigation and what was caught by his team of investigators. Wait until this hits the news. I guess a certain female Lt from 35th street is actually caught on her day off doing personal errrands with her city car which include a manicure and pedicure. Oh baby i think you might only lost your spot, but you most likely will be a station supervisor in patrol in the very near future. Oh and you just lost your car and the perks that go along with it!

Slightly off-topic:
Someone posted a comment recently about the trend of disbanding units continuing the RADAR/LIDAR unit, and that there would effectively be no active speed enforcement except for Lake Shore Drive and the expressways.

Could anyone shed more light on what is and isn't happening with speed enforcement, and whether there's any substance to this rumor?

The idea of most of the city becoming the Wild West for speeding doesn't thrill me.

Step right up and make a bid for:
- Superintendent
- First Deputy
- numerous Commanders, Deputy Chiefs and Chiefs
- Mayor
We will deliver them to the location of the winning bidder (hopefully on a planet far far away).

How about some of those used pinky rings and old cigar butts laying around the City Council back rooms. Plenty of used condoms to be found. Political hacks fucking us in our assholes for years. We didn't even rate a boxed lunch before they screwed us over and over again.

Remember way back when Richie Daley decided to "reform" the public schools and take complete control. They found warehouses full of supplies that dated back to the 1950's just sitting in dust. Lots of canned foods that had to be tossed out. And the schools last year that were throwing out good usable supplies in dumpters just to get rid of them. What the fuck are we doing with our tax dollars. This government is so corrupt it will never be straightened out. Never.

The auction is just a sham to make it look like the Rcoon is turning over every stone to find ways to make money for the city. Any money that comes out of this joke will just be pissed away on another worthless corrupt project.

Only a couple of them work and it's much faster to do everything on paper 6 pages arrest reports and inventories.

Expect to see the junker cars in your district to disappear real soon.
EMMD is compiling a list of crap vehicles, they plan on using the junkers during G8 in the hopes that vehicles will be damaged and claim damage and replacement by fed.
McJersey is trying to put a spin on it that he is pulling crap cars from districts because he cares about the equipment that patrol needs to do their job. Only thing is he doesn't have any replacement vehicles right now, so expect to have to wait for cars coming out of roll call.

OT but very important to all of us. It appears that the COMP STAT meeting held on Friday 13 Jan did not go very well. There were many who witnessed AL at it again. Seems as though the 1st Deputy said, "You are all an embarresment to the job". The good 1st Deputy was not happy with the fact that the beat cars in Area One are not doing their fair share of generating revenue for RAHM. Al get your head out of RAHM'S ASS and see how depleted we are on every watch in every district. We are barely keeping up with calls for service across the City. Al go blow yourself or better yet go write some parkers in the ghetto.

They'll be replaced by speed cameras...they make $$$.

"Units" cost $$$.

No one, not even Rahm cares about speeding. They've simply figured out how to make $$$ from it.
