Taser Use Up

  • A Tribune analysis shows Taser use has jumped fivefold in the city since 2008 and suburban agencies that were surveyed were on pace to double their use, as departments equipped more officers with the devices. Chicago police were deploying Tasers at a rate of more than twice a day in 2011.

And oversight has not kept pace with the explosion in use. Departments are on their own in developing policies on when and how electroshock devices should be deployed, with no state regulation.

Chuck Goudie is salivating, hoping that Tasers are outlawed so that the CPD can go back to killing people outright. Then he can write another slanted piece that does nothing to castigate the criminal assailant for behavior that gets them killed, but lays all the blame at the feet of the police who just want to do their jobs and see their families at the end of the day.

Wait... Doesn’t STATE LAW and the use of force against an assailant dictate when we can use an "electroshock device"?

Useless fucking media.

Every Department that has put Tasers into use has had a drop in the number of people that are shot by the police. In fact Tasers are saving the lives of the very people who complain about the use of them, well hell you just can't please everyone.
If anything the Trib should be complaining about the Departments that are not using them or not using them enought. Every person shot with a taser is one not shot with a bullet.

All this petty shit is pretty convenient in keeping the attention off of the billion dollar mortgage banker crimes as the statute of limitations runs out no?

The mass media is losing it's edge however and with it goes the ability to filter and present events with their spin. Times are a-changing.

Banking exec's are not being charged and prosecuted. Guns are being run across the border by the US Justice department. Regulation agencies are not regulating and the CPD is tied up doing busy-work krap instead of focusing on the REAL crimes and THINGS THAT MATTER THE MOST.

Tazer use up = Less cops going to hospitals injured after having to use serious physical force against resistors. How about a correlation between excessive force complaints with offenders or officers seriously injured versus tazer complaints.
I personally love the tazer and in 2 years have only deployed it once. It has averted many serious offenders wanting to fight once they see my little electric gun.

I would think that taering the assholes is better than shooting them. The rules in place I believe are sufficient. Of course lawyers and nutty biased newscasters can make it look like they want. If tasering saves an officer from getting hurt then taser away!

How about the fact that these tasers are saving/keeping us from having to beat the shit out of these offenders to gain control over them. We use to have to hit them with wooden and metal sticks to control them leaving them with severe injuries in many cases. Now, we give them a little shock, they comply instantly and there is no collateral damage. Processing and they're on their way. It saves so much money in lawsuits and iod's and the stress of getting into physical fights all the time. I sign one out every tour and i don't hesitate to use it. It's the best tool we carry i believe.

The reason that Taser use is on the rise is obvious. TASERCIDE!!!

More and more people are using tasers to do themselves in than ever before. The old way, using guns, is so messy and beside conceal carry in Illinois is illegal.

So, now, if we can only get Chuck Goudie to stick one of these in his ass and pull the trigger, Chicago and the rest of the world will be much better off.

As a 36-year retired Cop, I think that Tasers are the best "less than lethal" invention ever to come into use.

Of course the media, with it's "Why didn't you attempt to take the gun away" or "Why didn't you shoot the gun out of his hand" attitude will never understand it.

The value of the Taser is that for most offenders, it removes the will to fight, and that gives us time to hook them up.

More tasers made available, more tasers used. I don't remember exactly when but it was around 2008 that people other than supervisors could carry the equipment.

Lets also mention the number of attacks on the police has risen.

I dare Steinberg, Goudie, Mitchell to take a full 5 second shock and then ask them if they would rather have that and be fine within minutes or end up sore for a few weeks after a wood shampoo,

The media likes pictures of heads swathed in bandages and lumped up faces and bodies, like the picture of the guy who grabbed the Park Ridge copper's balls a few weeks back that my buddy saw in Australia on the news
there.

I also dare Goudie and all the other critics to go through the FATS and see how they do.

Hey trolls, and you too Chuckie Baby..

Chicago and other municipalities nationwide have a 'Use of Force' policy/model complete with a neat little CAPS-type chart that's available for viewing if you really care.
In essence it matches resistance with use of force. It is a nationally accepted policy.
If you ever read it, you would realize when the use of the Tazer is approved/recommended.
The idea of the policy is to quell resistance at the lowest level with reactive force to stop it from escalation to the ultimate... 'deadly force.'
Deadly Force, Chuckie Boy, is when YOU get to say the, "Chicago Police are out of control."
Until then we'll met resistance with the approved, appropriate amount of force, including the Tazer, to make sure that deadly force is used only as a last resort.
So, like they say on the Chicago Fire Department, "Everybody Goes Home!"

Had a suburban cop screaming at me because I walked on wrong side of 111th St during a fair at a Jr college. Was walking with my g/f, didn't see signs or hear his initial yell at me as there was a crowd and g/f was talking a mile a minute.
Anyway, THAT cop was freakin' phycho, hand on gun, I never made a move or did a thing, screaming at me before I even understood what heck was going on -
If your a good cop, GOD bless you, if your a physcho power freak cop, please taze me, no lead in my head, thankyou very much.

Sounds so simple huh? Now, have a drugged up offender die on you after you tase him and your statement doesnt mean shit....

There are risks with everything. even an "emergency takedown" is dangerous if the bad guy cracks his head the wrong way.

As police we are put in physical situations everyday. Most are as simple as "escorting" an unwelcome guest/asignificant other, out of a residence. People call us for the dumbest shit and then we are stuck with the job of taking a "Police" action. To do nothing, gets you a citizen complaint with the end result of someone getting seriously injured after we leave or numerous trips back to the same address, until we finally are forced to make an arrest. Some people dont deserve a second chance. Just doing our job means we will have to put hands on someone. The uncooperative subjects out there are usually stupid, self educated lawyers (thank you t.v.), stupid (I said it twice), and under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

The uneducated public would never do our job. The public does not know what the real world is like. People can run away from what we are paid to see on a daily basis. We dont get called to peoples homes unless there is a problem.

Dont like the Police making decisions for you or preserving the peace? Don't call us. Please keep your dumb shit inside behind closed doors so we cant see it. Be quiet so your neighbors dont call. Otherwise, Law Enforcement Officers, who are State Certified in the Use of Force, will come to you and follow our approved Use of Force Options on you if necessary, so we can go home to our familys. BTW, we dont call the Police to escort our girlfriends/boyfriends/wives/husbands/mothers/fathers/kids out of our own homes. Its called dealing with your own problems and taking care of each other.

Oh and yes, I was tasered during my taser certification course. I have video proof. I felt good afterwards. Loosened me up and made me realize what a great tool the taser really is. It can greatly reduce injury when utilized. Just dont use illegal drugs. They are against the law......(sarcasm)......
Chuck Goudie is a douche.

well, when you have a department that had only issued 125 tasers then you give all employees access to them and now over 5000 are certified of course the number of people being tazed goes up. You should compare the numbers to those who have been pepper sprayed. I guarantee the number of people sprayed has gone way down since tasers.

OT new argument for carry concealed. 3 kids survived
The driver, Roger Andersen, 46, of Logan, lost control as he tried to brake while heading northbound on U.S. 89 during slick conditions. His 9-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son were trapped along with a second 9-year-old girl.

"He was panicked, doing everything he could to get in through the doors, but they wouldn't budge," said rescuer Chris Willden, who had jumped into the water with his own father after coming upon the crash scene.

Willden, a Department of Defense contractor with a background in law enforcement, shot out one window with his Glock handgun after trying unsuccessfully to open windows and doors. As he reached upward searching for arms and legs, he felt nothing.

And love the totally biased story in the tribune about police tasing "citizens". Makes it sound like were tazing people for no reason. And their big case study is some drunk a-hole who tried to interfere with his wifes field sobriety test, resisted getting out of the car when they tried to arrest him, grabbed the po and was tased. Typical illinois jury aquited him of agg batt to po (because hey, its just a po right..) but was found guilty of obstruction and was awarded an undisclosed amount of $ in the resulting federal lawsuit (anyone still wonder why police are less aggressive?). When I came to find the detailed Mundelein incident, I seethed as it involved a fine young officer that I would like to believe that I had positively influenced in the past. He is a capable officer who wouldn't simply resort to mechanicals when verbals or muscle would do.

The real shame here is that the Lake County State's Attorney and Village Attornies didn't take this to the wall. Half the team was on the field, the rest was still celebrating at the New Years party. This is the lapse in the process, not TASER babble.

I just love these comments from people who just do not have a clue about what it is to be a cop in today's society. I have to admit, there probably are a few cops here and there in just about any jurisdiction who might be a little quick on the taser trigger. But, most cops I know will give a person every chance to comply before using any force. Cops are just like the average person, they just do not want to get injured. They want to go home in one piece without a trip to the ER. Whats wrong with that? Today's " Pussy Police"? Mister, you are a real jagoff to say that. I retired after 35 years and cannot recall one time where I went to arrest someone and the person submitted without a struggle. Many times I had to punch and wrestle and club the individual into submission. A few times I had enough help to swarm the person and even them it was a struggle. Then the person had to brag that " it took five cops to bring me down". Really? If I could have cracked your skull like I wanted to without the fear of a beef and suspension, I would have. Then it would have taken only one of us to get you down. This kind of talk just makes me mad and sick. To you buddy, the only thing I can say is " GFY "

I misthought .
I should have been more concise.
May I clarify ?

RFID CHIP IMPLANTS with a remote control for the built in electrostatic imcapacition node.

Perhaps mounted on the barrel for a second chance capacity.

Stun And Kill capacity is inevitable after animal testing IN THE FIELD by animal control.
We should be able to extract and analyze as much information from a dangerous person as we can for a pet. Avid chips will tell you the entire medical, genealogical, location and temperament of a pet, live stock or even food crops!

Why do we allow these dangerous creatures out of their cages without positive identification and control or GPS location?

IF I WERE TO GET AN " IMPLANT" IT WOULD BE A RFID!
No identification causing back pain or strain from wallets bulging with redundant documentation. No car keys or house keys. No credit cards or money.
Less pockets-pocket books or medicine lists.
Go shopping in comfort knowing their are no thieves in the stores or your home. No pedophiles or perverts near your children at school.

God is the original big brother and we make our own devils.

God bless you all and have a safe and peaceful new year!

Tazer's don't hurt!

Seven TRR'S and I didn't feel a thing.

The eighth one back was IOD surgery and I almost didn't make it back. But that was before we had takers, he's dead my lawyer got a tan and I can tell the weather.

If you really want to do something good: close the fukn medical section and you'll save a fortune and with new jails 50 or 60,000 will take the test and you will get the best and retain the best then we can get rid of the WORST!

Two of the seven asked for seconds and I put them on a diet. You run look for a soft place to fall. You fight you get it all. The battery will still be ready when you can't hold your water, mud or breath so just get in the car!

Stinking cops - YOU ARE ON TV you dumbasses. We can all see you delight in hosing down sitting protesters with 'pepper spray'.

You are just lucky people don't die right away with their taser deaths captured by CBS News.
