Again, Slow News Day

We have no idea why this made the paper either. We're looking for the angle because it doesn't fit in with the typical media slant of late:
  • A Chicago police officer shot and wounded a dog that threatened the officer behind a vacant Englewood building this morning.
The officer responded to a report of dogs fighting near a building in the 5800 block of South Union Avenue about 8:50 a.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs [...].
When the officer arrived, he came upon at least one dog in the back yard of the vacant building, and when the dog appeared to be a threat, the officer shot it,...
Maybe they're bucking for the animal rights people's vote.

Funny thing though - the Tribune closes comments on the "human being" spitting on the copper story, but leaves them wide open for the cop shoots dog story. Just makes you wonder.

There's no mystery about this. The master spin doctor (as our current mayor has described himself) is conducting his own assault on the Department, prior to contract talks.

We can expect, at least every other day (to keep the topic fresh in the public arena), that there will be another somewhat negative story about police officers.

NatoG8 will, of course, take care of us for a couple of weeks, too.

By the time our contract is on the table, we will have been vilified for several months straight and the mayor will make some obligatory comments about how every metropolis relies on its police, but Chicago's are overpaid and the Department is bloated. And then he will crucify us.

Too bad the emphasis was not that the assholes were fighting the dogs. All arrested on felony dog fighting charges. Too bad fido had to get shot but bad guys in jail.

Rahm is definately pissed off. The city is actively investigating the possibility of a large nominally paid auxillary force. Thats why every rule violation nowadays is 30 pending . To move you out. They have to move on this before the bulk of the hairgels get vested. They will try to go to 12 hour days to try to get as many CFD fireflys to quit too. That's why Hoff left.

While we are wondering . . .
Do you ever wonder why the FOP website shows that comments are not accepted?

Did anyone think they wanted our input?

That's why I stppoed buying the tribune 8 years ago. Hell, myself and entire family were paperboys when we were young. Now none of us buy the Tribune or Suntimes. They just don't report fairly and accurate.

Just like we have more than double the number of Aldermen than we NEED, cutting the number of exempts in half would have no negative effect and would save the Department AND our pension fund MILLIONS of dollars.

Of course, that would mean that bunches of politically connected Daley Crime Family members and friends of Burke, Madigan, Emanuel, LAPA/MAPA and the west side Revruns would have to scrape by and EARN their way into retirement instead of having it handed to them.

I guess it makes too much sense to get rid of the connected dead wood and rely on officers who have proven their abilities.

I have to agree. Rahm is hard at work. Everything happens before you sit down at the table. FOP needs to be proactively engaged in a pro police, pro public safety, we're on your side marketing campaign. Wishes don't get granted but hard work gets rewarded.

OT but true.....Area Consolidation along with closure of the 19th & 21 districts coming 04 Mar. Huge transfer order will be out 24 Feb with all the moves for Detectives. How many people are being moved and screwed over? How about 500 or more is you add up the changes. How about this for a morale booster?

Yes Sir, I can see it now, the
"Chicago Auxiliary Police Force"!

Part time workers (less than 40 hours a week), non-union and no health care or pension, no over time, armed but told to never un-holster a weapon, thousands of wanna-bee's waiting for the phone call!

Sounds too much like the "Rosemont Auxiliary Traffic Squad"!

Rahm, you Devil you!

FOP, you better start doing your homework real soon!!!!!

Remember what happened when they had to shoot a bear in town here, right in Yuppietown? Someone tried to burn down Mayor Daley's Michigan house.

Got the wrong house, but they were close.
