Welcome Constable Marron

  • It happened in the Australian wilderness. A young police officer was bitten by a mosquito and became immobilized, a quadriplegic who also cannot speak.

Now he has traveled from down under to Chicago. Here, police officer Ryan Marron hopes he can regain what was lost. [...].

The Chicago Police Department’s Pipe and Drum Corps and members of the department’s Sergeants’ Association marched through O’Hare International Airport with a new arrival in America on Wednesday — disabled Perth, Australia, police officer Ryan Marron.

He and his loved ones hope that his paralysis can somehow be cured at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
RIC has done some amazing work. A number of Officers have gone through their doors hoping to regain some semblance of normalcy following shootings and accidents. Sometimes the miracles happen. Hopefully Constable Marron can get something back that will grant him some relief from his debilitating condition.

God bless the CPD Pipe and Drum Corps as well as the rest of the CPD for what they are doing. And lets hope that Ryan Marron makes a full recovery.

I do hope that the CPD extends every courtesy to Constable Ryan Marron and his devoted fiancee, Toni Misitano, during his visit to the world's foremost rehabilitation center. A "mozzie" bite in the Outback has all but destroyed this officer's life. The mosquito bite occurred during his assignment in the indigenous (aboriginal) hamlet of Balgo in Halls Creek shire, about 1,700 miles northeast of Perth, both in Western Australia (WA). WA is the largest state in Oz being the western third of the continent and about five times the area of Texas.

If you have ever visited Oz, you would probably understand my love for the people "Down Under". This particularly applies to the hospitality of the constabulary in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and even the Outback.

On my third visit to Oz on a six-week holiday, I spent a week in Perth, the most distant city on the planet from Chicago. The local police could not have done more to make my trip memorable. An off-duty lady constable served as my tour guide. She was so entertaining. One of my fondest memories was our picnic in a suburban cemetery overlooking the Indian Ocean. We brought a full cooler of Victoria Bitter (V-B), a great lager. Aside from our most stimulating conversation, I was utterly fascinated by a mob of more than a hundred kangaroos hopping around us. Aside from a zoo, you will not find 'roos in city centre. However, you need go no further than suburban cemeteries, golf courses and other green areas.

I just hope our guys can extend the same hospitality to this Aussie couple. The welcoming party at O'Hare was a great start. Let's all pray for Ryan's full recovery.

Good Luck and God Bless and a full recovery to Constable Marron.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago does amazing things, sometimes miracles. We welcome Constable Marron to Chicago.

I have been courious that why under this new medical system we have, since the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is right here, was Densy Cole sent to Denver to recover.

If the best is here why go to Denver?

Can we please devote this post to ONLY uplift and encourage this officer? There will be other posts where you can voice your political rants.

I'm not worried at all about this place still existing.

I give them a sizable gift every year in gratitude for what they did for someone I love. Many other people do the same and I'm sure many more people will, if ever the financials become dire.

Heck, for what they did for Joe Airhart, alone, we should all put donations to them at the top of our charitable gift list.

See, this proves that socialism medicine doesn't work. Under socialized medicine private companies and hospitals stop investing in medicine. Thus people from Australia, Canada, England, France, etc... are all coming here for their medical care because the medical care in their own socialized homeland is not very good.

RE: Aussie Food

I have no idea. Australian and American meals are quite similar. I can tell you that my personal culinary experiences in Oz
rule out vegemite and the meat of kangaroos and crocodiles.

Great seafood, especially rock lobster tail and barramundi. Also excellent steaks and wines.

Those Foster's beer commercials are phony. It's brewed in Canada and rare in Australia. Victoria Bitter ("V-B") is by far the most popular beer. Sadly, it's not available in the USA.

In my travels, I rate locations by what I term "the asshole factor". In my estimation, Australia and New Zealand have the lowest asshole factor on Earth. Fun, personable, attractive, intelligent people.

How can you tell a Kiwi (NZ) from an Aussie? The laughing party mate with the lamp shade on his/her head at midnight is definitely the Aussie.

Suffice to say that if I couldn't live in the USA, I'd be in Oz in a heartbeat (after a 20 hour flight from LAX/SFO). A U.S. passport allows you to stay for up to six months.

Also remember, When it's winter in Chicago, it's summertime in Oz.

Europe is a joy. Bangkok is exotic. I choose Australia.

I believe that under Supt. McCarthy (he'd fit right in, LOL), 018 will look after Ryan and Toni. Toni is also the police. No worries, mate.

theres a po who had to spend 3yrs in louisiana for minor offense who should have had a similar welcome. or how about a fund raiser. this man ,one of ours, was royally screwed. if you are comfortable with what happened to him, we have a serious problem.

Mosquitoes are nothing to be messed with.

A friend of mine was mowing his lawn when he was bitten by a mosquito. He ended up with west nile virus. He too was paralyzed and had to be placed in a nursing home for several months of rehab.

I dont pretend to know anything about mosquitoes and diseases that they spread; but I'll tell you that I am much more aware of them now and I have no issues with using all sorts of repellant in the summer.

Don't allow rain water to puddle up on your driveway or sidewalks. Take a broom or whatever and push the water away. The mosquitoes like to hang out by stagnant waters.

Like there isn't enough for the Police to watch out for, eh?

Be safe everyone, and God Bless the Constable and his bride!

Believe it or not they have genetically modified mosquitoes and they have been testing them on people. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of those that bit him. I hope he gets back on track.

Some years back I skied out west with California cops and police from New Zealand and Australia ( opposite seasons of the year). They were a great bunch of people and we had a great time. I am retired now, but I am glad that the active officers are helping out a fellow law enforcement officer in their time of need. With all of the bitching cops do, then they turn around and make everyone proud.
