Broken Record

Friday into Saturday was pretty much what you'd expect. Saturday into Sunday continued in that same vein:
  • At least nine people were shot between 11:10 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday, according to Chicago police, including four outside a West Side club about 3 a.m.

We certainly like how the media is spouting the meme that "murders are up 56%, but overall crime is down 10%."

The thing about statistics is they're very manipulable. Take that 35% number. That's year-to-date of 2011 compared to 2012. It's still a bad number, but it sounds waaaaaaaay better than the almost 118% increase when you compare just March of 2011 to March of 2012.

And the 10% decrease in crime? If you're counting raw numbers, maybe crime did "go down." But if there is a population decrease, then the per capita rate is changing a lot less (if at all) from year-to-year.

And trust us, if homicides (killings) are going up, then the other crime is climbing, too. They just use tricks like those we pointed out to make things sound better than they are. Remember, OEC is handling more calls than ever and paying more overtime than they can keep track of - that doesn't sound like crime is down, does it? What happens is the manpower dictates that we can't respond as quickly to minor crime/disorder and people get sick of waiting around for a cop that might not show up for an hour or more.

This is April. What's July going to look like? The media is stirring the pot with Trayvon. Going to be a tough summer.

See the murders are up but crime is down is a feel good story. Like you go to the Dr and he says your blood pressure and cholesterol level are low but you have terminal cancer.

Geez, maybe the mayor has an interest in a "Crime Scene Tape" company ?

I get it!

When they say overall crime is down they must be speaking about things like breaking a city ordinance park curfew.

That crime is down because the mayor can and will pull out all the stops sparing no expense to mobilize his little para-military army if need to protect a political agenda.

ON THE OTHER HAND....

When it comes to actually protecting the citizens

When there's people shooting and killing innocent bystanders, children, battles over drug turf and all out gang wars going on...well the mayor finds that acceptable and the superintendent backs him up with his Broken Windows crime mythology marketing krap and more cops on the street is not the answer.

Even the twisted statistics that they present make it crystal clear what their primary motives are and the their agenda no?

What kind of Broken Windows message do you think the average joe is receiving from these recent events?

Anyways..if your dispatcher is in a backlog and you're shorthanded racing from "loud reports" to "loud reports" calls. A lot of that crime that is down by 10% would be down because it gets a big fat "19-paul" code I would suspect.

The victims then just say eff-it I can't wait all day over this bullshit I have to go to work.

,,,and like you said SCC we are not event given the full story when they pull the crime is down by 10% out of their behinds. Ten percent of what? Year vs Year? Month vs month? Maybe they are comparing crime rates to 20 years ago for all we know. And then there's the matter of what falls into the category of overall crime.

Come-on people we should all know how the word games are played by now.

Your and my definitions of overall crime probably doesn't even come close as they make up their own meanings to the commonly accepted words and phrases that are tossed out to the media.

And with a back log, citizens are less likely wait around for the police to report the other theft related and minor crimes. Shooting and murder victims don't have that luxury, they'll bleed out or start to smell funny.

They used to enjoy comparing month for month stats. What happened?

Next thing you know they will be comparing April 2012 with April 1992 in an effort to give you that warm fuzzy feeling back.

Also, according to COMSTAT numbers citywide arrests are down about 10%. If 5% of those arrests are self-generated (onview, narcotics, gambling)then that is a 5% decline that is directly related to morale and de-policing.

The media doesn't want the vicious Racoon to get mad at them. This administration is all wired into the city media. They won't dare print or televise a story that puts these corrupt bastards in a bad light.

True. When they take your wallet and watch AFTER you're dead, McMinimizer will classify it as 'theft from person' or 'lost or mislaid property'.

Allow us...

The Constant = Real numbers...
Actual (though suppressed by City Hall) manpower numbers, actual unflitered crime stats and the like.

The Variable = Applied mathematical fuckery expressly designed for the political expediency of keeping the citizens uninformed and happy to be that way.

The Product = The end result of a logical, universally understood (though politically unacceptable as it involves "truth-telling") constant rubbed against the above intentionally fucked up variable rendering a result that is not unlike donkey dung.
