Off Duty Attacked

  • A 59-year-old off-duty Chicago police officer was hit in the face by a man soliciting business for Direct Energy, according to police.

Vincent Taylor, 22, was arrested about 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the officer's home on California Avenue on the Southwest Side. Taylor, of the 5900 block of Superior Street, in west suburban Berkeley, was wearing an orange polo shirt with what appears to be the Direct Energy logo on the left side of his chest in his police booking photo.

The officer declined Taylor's offer and asked him to shut the gate in his front yard as he left, police said.

Taylor slammed the gate and the officer approached him to ask why he didn't shut it, police said.

The two started arguing, police said. Prosecutors said he threatened the officer. And two people who witnessed the argument told police Taylor was arguing with the officer before Taylor hit him in the face, breaking the officer's glasses and causing swelling around his left eye, police said.

Was this just a guy having a bad day?

  • This is Taylor's fourth arrest on battery charges, and at least one of those was domestic, police said.

Guess not.

Nice to see the State approved the Aggravated Battery charge. And also keep in mind Direct Energy doesn't seem to do much of a background check on those individuals soliciting for their business.

While I usually ignore anyone who rings the bell these days, one of their thugs caught me as I was leaving. His demeanor was more threatening than sales pitch and I had to remind him he was on my property uninvited.

I hope the Officer has all his bills paid for by the company.

Those Direct Energy assholes scare the shit out of the old ladies and irritate everyone else. They get the cops called on them all the time in my northside district and then play victim. After this, I'm going to, dial it up a notch when dealing with these people. I wouldn't be surprised if they case out places for burglaries also.

At least he had the decency to wear an orange shirt thereby making him easier to spot when one of the three officers assigned to that district on days finally made it to the call. Even the criminals are obliging us.

I too have experienced a punk piece of shit who rang my doorbell last year. He claimed he was from "Spark Energy"(I think that's the name). He was extremely rude and ignorant simply because I denied his offer to change my gas service. We nearly got into a physical altercation, but I figured it wasn't worth it. I guess you should have a "no solicitor" sign up and if they still hassle you then just get them locked up. Just throwing out an idea is all.

This "company" is a constant nuisance in the 019 district and according to the BBB website they have a grade of F with numerous compliants of fraud and overly aggressive "sales techniques". Also if you run they're names many have non serviceable warrants from out of state and few carry real identification other than the bullshit work identification that comes up "no record on file". Protect yourself and think before you act. If you're not expecting anyone, observe who is at your door if you're able to unseen, but do not answer the door. Opening your door to a stranger is putting yourself at risk. Talk through the door if you have to, but don't OPEN your door to strangers.

I answer the door with a holstered pistol. I'm polite and never had a problem with young dude taking no for an answer.

Funny people working for this outfit. I spoke with one recently, after he walked into my screened/enclosed side porch.
We sat in the wrought iron chairs as I listened to his sales pitch. The wife had let the retarded big dog out in the side yard to eat squirrels and he got one as Antron watched.
Funny, he left abruptly after I asked if he was going to every house on the block, does his company know where he was going today and if anyone saw him as he walked up to my house?
Maybe the ole lady is right, I might need to brush-up on my hosting skills.

"Direct Energy doesn't seem to do much of a background check on those individuals soliciting for their business."

If I recall correctly, we've had two Comcast installers rape and murder women in their homes, and another was finally caught backing out the door with a gun and killed by CPD/FBI team chasing a robbery pattern, gas station on Forest Preserve Drive in Harwood Heights...

AT&T has some shaky-looking characters themselves...

"Taylor hit [the officer] in the face, breaking the officer's glasses and causing swelling around his left eye..."

The officer could conceivably have fallen, hit his head on the pavement, and died.

A demonstrably life-threatening situation.

I don't get it. Under "Home Services," it shows a smiling, uniformed white guy tipping his hat to the nice lady who answers the door.

Yeah, if you can hear them, they can hear you the same.

A piece of Shit came to a family members hse. last yr. in 016. After being turned away and not given any money, the dog ripped up plants on the property and left, the police told my relative they are mostly from out of state and won't show up in court so no sense in arresting them. Brilliant work
