The Blac Bloc will be marching with the main protest group at noon sunday. A day they are calling on for "chaos" and disorder in chicago. The blac bloc says they will create a "blac hurricane in chicago" on sunday and monday.
monday 5/21 they are going to do a "shut down boeing" mission then tuesday another protest of the wars and on wednesday(after the Nato summit ends) its not going to end for us.. they are calling for a Mass rally and protest to take back chicago at 4pm at daley plaza. this could be a long week if they get enough numbers together.

- funny, because today in 001 on days we had to respond to 130 randolph which is obama campaign hq. there were about 100 protesters. Nobody in 001 knew that this protest was going to happen and were caught off guard when the call came out. there were only about 80 protesters but they were able to cause havoc and shut the building down because they stormed the lobby. 8 got locked up and the protest only lasted about 2 hours but for us it took about 45 min to get organized and get a plan together. Its a joke. there are gonna be about 30 thousand here starting on friday... its gonna be a mess.

TO ALL OFFICERS WHO WILL BE ON THAT LINE THIS WEEKEND:
Ultimately you are responsible for getting yourself home safely to your family every day. It is painfully obvious that the department is making and has made many bad decisions regarding officer safety.
If you feel you must wear your helmet, decide for yourselves what is the most appropriate course of action.
I believe that the order to go to this thing in soft clothes without helmets was made by a civilian at City Hall. McLush has not the testicular fortitude to go against a City Hall directive and demand all officers wear the most basic or protective gear: your HELMET.
I will be in mine. If I am the Lone Ranger out there in my helmet and a supervisor orders me to take it off, I will have to probably obey or be fired. If my whole squad has the helmet... well, if many squads have helmets on, I would call that prudent and nearly impossible to reverse and the bosses are likely to give up on the no helmet thing.
Such an order is ludicrous.

This reminds me of a similar 'executive decision' made many years ago by then-Supt. Fred Rice when the Martin Luther King Jr. Movement went to march against the Klan in Marquette Park. Rice had decided that officers who would be detailed there would NOT be in helmets, so as 'not to incite the
crowd.' I was able to use CU and get out of going
to that event; when I heard about Rice's decision

Do not be so quick to judge the mayor. CAPS is the answer to crime! Fix the small issues and crime will disappear. We need to support his community based initiatives.

to that event; when I heard about Rice's decision

And a signed order is not going to do anything to limit criminal or civil liability if it was not justified.

Teah there is something wrong with the first poster's comment. I remember the confrontations between King and his people with the folks from the Marquette Park area very well. I did not find an excuse to not be there. I dont remember id we were wearing helmets or not at the beginning. We were later on though. In any event that was in the mid to late 60's and Fred Rice RIP, was still a Sergenat in Burglary.
023, yes the foot officers are on SS days off, but theres also a warrant car and entertainment car both up every night and do not get radio jobs, putting more work load on the watch. Those cars were up only when the watch had enough POs instead of taking care of a few pets. The W/C needs to get his head out of his ass and start managing like a real manager. Then maybe you will be able to have a weekend day off.
