Warm Weekend Totals Rise

  • Three people were shot, one fatally, and another man killed in separate attacks across Chicago Saturday night and Sunday morning.

A 43-year-old man died after being bound and beaten inside his apartment in the 4500 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Jefferson Park about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, according to police. He was identified as Marek Kaczmarczyk by the Cook County medical examiner's office.

  • In Logan Square, a 36-year-old man was shot to death on the 1600 block of North Mozart Drive about 12:15 a.m. Police said the shooting was gang-related but didn't say what gave them that impression.

Maybe the fact that it happened when most decent people are in bed asleep? That'd be our first guess,

The carnage continued from previous shootings:

  • A 28-year-old man was pronounced dead this afternoon several days after being found shot in an Ashburn alley, officials said.

And more:

  • A 28-year-old pregnant woman found dead in her ransacked South Side apartment Saturday died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to authorities.
And it was an especially bad weekend for traffic deaths. Too bad those speed cameras weren't up and running. They would have solved everything.

Who has the weekend totals?

You asked who has the weekend totals, SCC. Apparently, no one.

Yesterday, in an article lauding New York City's dwindling homicide rate, an attempt was made to compare NYC to Chicago's totals, year to date.

They commented that the City has one (low) number up on their site, but the REDEYE has a much higher total. Funny, but they chose to use the REDEYE'S numbers and not the City's!!! Even the national media is wary of Mayor SpinDoctor.

I wounder how long it took to get someone from the Forensic Unit to do a forensic work up. There are only 13 Mobile Crime Lab people left, and two shifts. The É.T.'s are short also. There are only 80 E.T.'s for the whole city. This department doesn't care much for the recovery of evidence.

from a CNN article...

Yet the police department, including Commissioner Ray Kelly, has argued that the policy ends up disproportionately protecting those in minority communities. African-Americans and Hispanics made up 96% of all New York shooting victims and 90% of murder victims last year, police said. Therefore, a drop in such shootings citywide would logically equate to fewer minorities' being killed.

New York police pointed out there were 124 murders this year in the city through April 29, compared with 158 in Chicago -- which, with about 2.7 million people, has less than one-third of New York's population.

Those figures couldn't be clearly matched on the city of Chicago's website. Official crime data from Chicago did note 120 homicides in that city through April 20, while the Chicago Tribune's RedEye website recorded 169 homicides as of May 9.

So who has the more accurate statistics? CPD or the Tribune?

why are north side districts that are already running on skeleton crews sending cars to 003--- 016 and 017 are running on fumes--- if you want a good laugh stop in 016 or 017 and ask to see the 1st watch assignment sheets--- always 2 or 3 primary beat cars down and often no wagon--- 016 and 017 are big districts and they are wide open for criminals to come in and do what they want because their is nobody out there to prevent it...

Other weekend spectaculars.

Newlywed, still in wedding dress, found stabbed in tub in domestic attack

By Carlos Sadovi, William Lee and Steve Schmadeke Tribune reporters

1:05 p.m. CDT, May 14, 2012

"A woman in a wedding dress was found apparently stabbed to death in a bathtub in a southwest suburban Burbank apartment, just days after her wedding...Estrella I. Carrera, 26, was found around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 7800 block of South Rutherford Avenue...autopsy conducted today determined that she died of multiple stab wounds and her death has been classified as a homicide..."

I mean, why waste time?

I guess this saved everyone else from having to listen to -- well, today, maybe three weeks of arguing beforehand.

What can you say?

OK BOSS!!!!
You MUST work at 35/Michigan.
Thats the "Do More with Less" Nonsense.
What a Great idea. Have a Detective process physical evidence during a Homicide investigation or or worse yet during a Police shooting. So during or after he/she works up the case they then have to identify, label properly package "physical evidence" that needs to be transported to the Illinois State Crime Lab. That wont affect OT?!

We're at about a 57% increase in homicide year to date. If you keep the 50% increase to the end of the year that will give something like 680-700 total homicides. Now that's the Chicago I remember.

Talk to someone at the ISP lab that processes "physical evidence" that the ETs and Lab inventory from crime scenes.See what they say.
Talk to an ASA that works with these people on major/minor cases and how many times "physical evidence" that was recovered from the scene, help their case.
Lastly, a Detective might give you some insight into as to how often "useful evidence" is recovered from scenes.

To those that live in 16 the response to the homicide in your neighborhood was two E.T.'s. This home invasion should have been an ERT scene but the Crime Lab was at North and Mozart. So the animals involved in this home invasion will be back.

==================

Well, good thing our esteemed lawmakers in Springfield continue to prevent law-abiding citizens from exercising their 2nd Amendment rights, otherwise, we would have hundreds of shootings per year.

Oh, wait...
