When You Gotta Steal....

  • A man stole a Bobcat excavator from a construction site on the West Side on Friday morning, then used it to smash through the window of a dollar store a block away, according to police.

Michael Younger, 50, took the Bobcat mini excavating machine from a construction site in the 5300 block of West Chicago Avenue about 4:15 a.m. and used it to break through the front window of the Family Dollar Store in the 5400 block of West Chicago, according to police.

Younger then stole gift cards and two bottles of Gillette shaving gel from the Dollar Store, police said.

When you gotta steal, a little thing like a building isn't going to stop you.

I just don't get the whole Dollar Store deal. Haven't these people ever heard of Bloomingdale's? I mean, in for a penny in for a pound, right?

let me guess, michael younger has an extensive criminal history and has been to the penitentiary multiple times--- the cost to taxpayers for him in the millions--- but he is turning his life around....

A guy in 019 was arrested for trying to steal a bobcat a few years ago. He left the construction scene in a pickup truck and trailer, tried to run down an officer on foot, struck an unmarked squad with two PO's inside and got into an accident at Wrightwood and Ashland and then finished up attempting to jack a car from a citizen at the accident scene. The citizen gave up the car but took the keys when he got out and the thief was arrested trying to jack another car. I wonder if he is any relation, I don't recall that guy's name.

Why in hell would anybody ever steal anything from the DOLLAR STORE????

if memory serves, everything costs a dollar!

If I was going to steal, it would be from a higher class store. Maybe CVS or Walgreens!

Does anyone know if crime is still down?
Are we in a violence & mayhem uptick again ?
Will there be a moratorium on crime for NATO Week?
How about a CompStuff Comprehensive Update Report.
Oh the humanity !

Good thing the police stopped him and got him safely in the squad car before he got robbed.

You can't go walking around there with valuables. That's a bad neighborhood.

OK, that covers his whereabouts for the last fifteen minutes...

It also explains why you might see a police vehicle driving around in circles in the middle of an intersection, playing circus music over the loudspeaker.

Not as much press about the thieves who drove a van into the Best Buy on Elston and took off with 60 iPads. I'd say that was a better ROI for a heist.

I know this is off topic, but I just read a story in the Trib about a "shotgun robbery" in which a "man" was robbed of crack cocaine in a drug deal gone bad. Maybe I'm crazy, but has there ever really been a "drug deal" gone good? We are talking about crack dealers here right? That shit's crazy.

I spoke with a Best Buy manager about the incident not related to the incident and not in a police capacity.
Total time in/out 3 minutes//$50,000.00 strike.

It's a big hit and systems are being changed to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Yes, the address was 5327 but a new building is being put up. The permit has 5317. 5327 is gone forever!

Justice for Mr. Younger will be years in jail.

Funny how our Justice System works. The people who screwed everyone out of their house equity with the Mortgage debacle are still walking around and even got their year-end bonus back in 2010.

How many Billions of dollars did they skim off of everyone's house value? Your $400,000 house is now worth $200,000 if you are lucky. You ALL got robbed. You ALL got victimized.

Stealing from a Dollar Store will bring the mighty hand of justice on Mr. Younger, that we can depend on, but where is the jail time for the professional thieves at the banks?

Next case.
