Time Due at CompStat

Evidently, McDumbass has been ripping on exempts for "allowing" people to use time due, especially on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. He and his people have come up with numerous examples concerning percentages of officers taking the day off and he is not happy about it.

Hey McAsshole, Time Due isn't a gift. We earned it. We did the City of Chicago a favor by not taking cash overtime money, instead, opting for time off at a later date for the extra hours we spent here serving and protecting, many times to the detriment of our family situations.

And another thing - the rest of the world doesn't really operate on the CPD schedule. We run 24/7/365. The rest of the world gets off on weekends and that's when they plan family events, large parties, gatherings and celebrations. Any given year, we can rattle off ten of more events that we miss due to having to work. That makes it all the more important that when those events come up that are truly important to us and our families, we'd like to not miss them.

But of course, that wouldn't matter to some McBarFly who left their family out-of-state and spends all sorts of off-hours in bars with twenty-and-thirty-something star chasing groupies. And of course, not one single exempt points any of this out. Gutless, ball-less cowards, yes-men/women, each and every one of you. Thank god we retired along with a few hundred other people, leaving this disaster to enjoy the family we are currently re-connecting with.

Anyone who doesn't read those minutes is missing a lot of critical info about what McStupid's game plan is.

OT- To the people complaining about being sent to 003 on the weekends, its only because 3rd watch in 003 has the laziest/dumbest officers (if you can call them that) in the department. Never coding jobs, 4 hours on a report that is not even close to being done correctly. Very sad. This is why 003 leads the city in shootings. Can't wait to bid out of here.

g-mac, you haven't seen anything yet--- just wait until periods 6-9 when people really start putting slips in for time--- it usually coincides with the end of school--- it's a time when may of us law enforcement types like to take a vacation with kids we never see or have a barbecue on a friday or saturday night when all of the normal people do it--- good bosses know it is the kiss of death to deny time--- workers turn into pooches when they can't go to weddings or graduation parties because the slip they dropped over a month ago got denied--- get ready to have a bunch of 99 units working citywide--- over the past 3 years 350 officers were hired and about 1800 retired--- possum head went public and stated we need more police and was muzzled by king richie--- now g-mac tells the media we have plenty of manpower and we just have to use our resources more wisely--- apparently that means denying time due on weekends--- not a good time to be saying that, especially after your dominatrix went down to springfield and opened his north shore liberal mouth about working until you're 60 and maxing out at 65 percent and cutting the COLA increases for 10 years....

If he wants to restrict time due than the FOP needs to argue the fact that we cannot sell back our time. I'm sure that would go over like a lead balloon at city hall. FOP needs to document all comp time that has been denied for the arbitrators.

Take the money on every overtime slip. Let's see who's doing who a favor. It's not personal, it's just business. No more favors. No one watching your backs anymore. Their cutting your benefits that it took 40 years to get. And you thought they had your backs. They cheated the pensions, now they want you to pay more and take cuts. Maybe occupy has a point. ok let say that they say you can only give 5 percent of the watch off any given day. well lets say the ghetto district has 150 people assigned to each watch, that would be 7.5 officers per day, per watch. well in the 016th district we have 60 officers per watch, thats would not be fair to these officers. it is not their fault that the city gives most manpower to the ghetto. Im not hear to be yelled at by my fellow officers about who needs more officers or not. im just saying i want what everyone get from the pie..

This city's handlers have no clue how close the mutiny really is.

I DEMAND that Rahm & Co. open the TIF books and disclose every last dollar and explain why a good portion can't be used to shore-up our pension shortages. We seem to have hundreds of millions for everything else, why not actually invest some of that cash in your biggest assets?

Note to Rahm: a happy employee is a productive employee, and a productive employee brings in revenue. See how simple that equation is?

Not quite. Per FLSA, any FLSA overtime accured, that being time in excess of 171 hours in a cycle, cannot be denied when a request to use it is sought. Any other o/t can be denied. Almost no one has any FLSA time on the books anymore. Check with your timekeeper to see if you have any but I doubt it. Any time you request time due, the first time used is your FLSA hours. There are only a handful of people who have any on the books.

FLSA time is actual overtime earned, not holiday time or court OT that gives you 3 hours for 30 minutes in court. The 30 minutes would be FLSA time, the rest is non FLSA. And the timekeeper is required to use up the FLSA time first before non FLSA time when you put in a slip. Timekeeper must now keep track of the different amounts.

Yep. you're right. Go down on a "station assignment" or "reports" right out of the station, then get coffee or other refreshment, then handle a job or two and milk them as long as possible, then go order lunch, eat, come back from the job and request lunch. Then perhaps into the station on "reports" again, then hopefully get some paper job that will get you to the end of the tour. All of this will really snap the bosses back to "reality." Give it up already, asswipe.

In a good year you will work nights and weekends and maybe make 60-70 grand. In a bad year you will work nights and weekends and make 40 grand. Salesman dont have OT or time due and certainly dont have a pension. If you want every weekend off and never want to miss a family event, then why in the hell did you become a cop? You knew going in that this is a 24/7 job. Now just because you have some time on the books you think you can take it whenever you want and if you are not given what you want everyone is an ahole?? They constantly use manpower as an excuse to deny the time WE EARNED and is now DUE to US! Then McDrunk is touting how we are fully staffed and have enough officers on the street- so which one is it??? You can't have a fully staffed police force and say your manpower is at full strength in one breath, then tell your commanders to deny time to their officers because the percentage of officers off work is inadequate. I can honestly say this job has become a real circus- and it used to be bad enough just having to deal with the savages. Now, we have to deal with bosses and clueless administrators that put their own professional and financial gain before the safety and welfare of the patrolmen. I rarely asked for time due when I first came on the job because I knew that I had to suck it up being the rookie and those with seniority would be granted comp time before me. Apparently seniority doesn't mean crap around here now because the guys with 5yrs get regular assigned cars and partners (and no, they are not hard chargers), working the radio room, while the people with 10+ yrs are shuffled from car to car, and stuck with any shit detail that comes up. The bosses are shaky as hell and very few are respected or liked by the officers. I am stuck amongst the officers with at least another 10-15yrs to go, and like many of them I have a mortgage and bills to pay, but I'll walk off this job tomorrow if they take our pension- it is the last thing holding most of us here.

To the people condoning writing another copper a ticket, you are jagoffs and total company men. You are easy to spot. The one complaining at roll call about how the city is screwing over coppers and about how you wont write tickets or do anywork. Yet as soon as you get out there you look for movers and parkers so you can tell the boss how much activity you bring in because you are a kiss ass. But when someone calls for an assist you never show up. Out of the hundreds of possible parkers you couldve wrote that day you wrote a coworker. And to top it off you airmailed it. Just remember karma is a bitch and one day you will get yours. But wait it wont be from the REAL police because they wouldnt fuck over another copper.

Know one thing love him or hate him your mayor is a smart, tough guy. I'm sure his showing up at that police, fire boxing match was as much about showing you he is not afraid of you, walking into your house, as it was his love of boxing. He is showing very quickly he is running this whole state. Even the once powerful leprechaun's Burke and Madigan have fallin in line. Boys and girls you better not take this man lightly he is not like the fool before him. Just some advice.

Sure he is, just look at how well Fannie Mae did on his watch

McCarthy is gone by August. Rahm's advisors are pushing to dump him. The crime numbers are horrible. Chicago will certainly be the homicide capital for 2012. Rahm will need to show he is making changes and the first change will be dumping McCarthy.
================
And somehow changing to someone else will have some positive impact on crime numbers? I can't imagine Rahm or his advisers are dumb enough to believe there is anyone out there who can magically come in and reduce crime as police super.

As a tactic to avoid taking the blame themselves they might do it.

Crime is about a whole lot more than policing. You can't fix a problem like that without attacking it from the other angles. And I do not mean by giving more handouts to those who refuse to work for a living.

Policing is a lot like being the trash collector. You don't get to reduce the amount of trash generated. About all you can really do as a trash collector is improve the trash collection operation a little here and there.

Wah, wah, wah, the things we have to do and put up with for 50k plus a year plus all the other benefits, wish I was in private industry. Most of them get every weekend off when they are working steady.

Yep, was a great watch in 2005-2008. Horrible now-a-days, filled with the biggest group of idiots I ever met. Which is sad because the Sergeants are pretty good too. All the decent coppers either went to Tact or left.

Just got a mailer ticket in the mail from 019 that some jagball didn't hang on my car for parking in an alleged no parking zone. Only thing is it is a designated police vehicles only spot on the side street along the station. Had he or she taken the time to look at my car rather than just write down my plate they would have seen my fop medallion and sticker on my windows. total asshole move

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

While I don't wish that you were given the ticket here's a bulletin, Einstein: Your personal car is NOT a police vehicle. That blue and white vehicle that you ride around in while you are busting your balls figuring out a way not to do anything? That's a police car. You can't miss them, they have blue lights on top.

I sense something wrong in the work ethic of a few people who post on this blog. You think that people who do a reasonable amount of work, write a few tickets and respond to their calls are kiss asses? Wow. Twisted thinking at the very least. You have a job that you were hired to do. You are being paid for this job. Negotiate to the best of your ability to better the work conditions and benefits. Until then do you job to the best of your ability or quit or risk getting fired. The sad part of it is no on really gets fired or disciplined for doing little or nothing. Then these malcontents critisize those who want to work. Upside down at the very least. You work in a department that has put up with do nothings for many years and rewarded some of these do nothings because theyhad clout. Try this bullshit in some other departments and see how far it goes. I sure hope they change the system here soon and weed out these people or at the very lease never promote or transfer them.

Im retired and living in NC. Believe me guys, the cops here, especially the State Police dont care if youre a cop or not. You go 10 over, youre getting a ticket. One guy wrote me for 15 over, and down here thats an automatic suspension. I had to pay a lawyer to get it redcuced and pled guilty to 9 over

Thanks for posting that. I am really in shock that anyone on the blog would be in favor of what went down here. This is a sad world we live in where a copper would willingly write a parking ticket that does nothing but generate revenue for a city who repeatedly fucks us over and justify it the way the guys here have. And where does someone get the idea that I ride around in a car all day looking to avoid working and I'm some kind of guy that these guys are better than? The way I see it someone writing me a ticket and not having the balls to hang it tells me he or she is well aware that they might be writing a copper and somehow that's justifiable ? I've got plenty of time on this job and can tell you that those spots have always been used by private vehicles across the whole city. Show me where on those signs it says city owned or department owned vehicles only. If I'm the police and it's my vehicle you really would argue the issue with me parking there? The garage says district personnel only and I never said I worked there. I stopped in for something and I guarantee you my cr was not the one civilian car amongst a sea of blue and whites. Think of the guys who have gotten jammed up sending mailers and you guys would really take the stand that I am in the wrong ???
There was a time when we would look out for our own and I am in utter amazement that any copper would really have issue with me having an FOP medallion and an active member sticker on my window. Im still proud of being the police and what I've been through with the guys I've worked with through my career. This I the kind of mentality that has evolved into guys driving by other coppers on street stops without slowing down or driving the other way when someone needs help. Unbelievable

They just gave you the answer, Take the money every chance you get. See how the city likes that. Cash is King. Don't check "time " anymore. Take the money. Check the money box. Everyone talking about cutting is already rich.

To the first person quoted above: Maybe you have never been to a college graduation, but if you are denied time for it, you don't know how lucky you are. Go to the party after work and forget about it.
To the second quote above: You are wrong! The city obviously would rather pay you your time now than 2, 5, 10, etc. years from now. The financial burden for the city is much less. If you can't figure that out, it means that you will be earning more per hour in future years.

I couldn't live in a state where the police have broomsticks shoved up their ass so far that they write speeding tickets to fellow police officers.

I got a speeding ticket in Montana from the State Police or Highway Patrol or whatever they call themselves. The guy did me a "favor" by making it only 10 over and took $20 cash on the spot for bond. It is about the money there, they know you are not coming back to the middle of Montana for court and bond is forfeited. Thankfully they don't also report to your home state.

I was leaving Canada later that trip and got to talking to the Border Patrol/Customs guys and learned they all get tickets from Montana too. Some of them have to drive a damn far ways to go to work and if the Montana State guys get them, they get a ticket too.

But thanks for the word about the NC police, that knocks North Carolina off my list of potential retirement states. In fact, the only southern state still on my list is Tennessee. And that is only because of no state income tax.
