Rahm Running for Minnesota Office?

  • [Minnesota] Attorney General Lori Swanson is vowing to press on with her investigation of Accretive Health despite the mayor of Chicago asking her to rein it in until she's met executives to discuss concerns about its collection practices.

What possible interest could Rahm have with a Minnesota criminal investigation?

  • In April, Swanson released the results of her investigation of Accretive Health's relationship with the Fairview health system, saying the parties had engaged in overly aggressive billing tactics that included pressuring patients for payment in emergency rooms and maternity wards.

"I request that the parties cease efforts to publicly prosecute this matter and rather try to resolve the matter privately," wrote Rahm Emanuel, the mayor of Chicago, in a letter to Swanson released Tuesday. "Please confirm to me that this is the path we are on and let me know the date for which the meeting is scheduled."

Emanuel asked that Swanson back off from interviewing Accretive's clients until that meeting, according to the undated letter. His letter stated that he and Swanson discussed the matter by phone last week, and opened by noting that both Democrats share the goal of making health care affordable.

Wow. Something stinks here. Stinks badly. Is Rahm an investor in Accretive? Is there some other connection to the ObamaCare bill that Accretive is enmeshed in? To her credit, the Minnesota Attorney General isn't being cowed:

  • "We will continue to interview witnesses and perform our law enforcement responsibilities over charitable hospitals in Minnesota," Swanson said.

Accretive Health has "retained or contacted numerous heavyweights in the national Democratic Party," Swanson added.

"It has now contacted Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago," she said. "This is a law enforcement matter. Unfortunately, Accretive appears to address it as a political one."
Too bad there aren't any investigative reporters around anymore. We imagine they could have some fun with this one.

I suspect that some major investors in that health care company are connected to Rahm, and they're pressuring him to slow down the investigation,
until some sort of deal can be made to save
the company. Who knows, Rahm or his brother
could wind up being exposed as major investors
themselves.

Tolan’s Way

By: Steven R. Strahler
March 03, 2008

Accretive Health, a $250-million Chicago company built from
scratch in four years, counts on a glitzy board that includes

former Secretary of State George Shultz and Hollywood
mogul Edgar Bronfman Jr.

But the real force behind the company is CEO Mary Tolan,

who grew up in Palos Heights, the first of seven kids of a
milk distributor and an EKG technician.

After a two-decade climb at Accenture Ltd., the 47-year-old
Ms. Tolan made herself one of Chicago's most successful, if
least well-known, entrepreneurs.

"My objective is just to be a happy, confident capitalist," says
the devotee of Ayn Rand's and Milton Friedman's free-market gospel, which she applies with a combative, survival-of-the fittest management style.

"She can be demanding, challenging and kick your ass

pretty good sometimes," says Rich Gillette, an Accretive vice-president.

Accretive, which helps hospitals boost revenues by qualifying more patients for insurance
reimbursements, is growing 50% annually and could go public as soon as next year. Headquartered
on Michigan Avenue with about 350 staffers, it's scouting the area for a place to put a 500-employee
claims-processing center.

Oh how they are glorified in corporate propaganda eh. They should be so proud.

So how come the mayor wants everyone to sit down and shut up?

Meanwhile expectant mothers are allegedly being harassed in hospital emergency rooms by the collection agencies?

Ahh but look at that board. Hollywood and politicians. No wonder healthcare cost are exploding and nothing is being addressed to open the free-markets.

A similar practice has started in at least one hospital in Chicago. Recently a close relative was taken to Resurrection Hospital for stomach pains. The relative had a burst appendix, emergency surgery occurred. Five days later the relative is released. Yhree days later, back to the emergency room with more pain. While waiting for preliminary tests a middle age woman approches the relative and the person with the insurance and demands a $100 payment. She even had a credit card reader in her hand. She was aked why no such payment was demanded for the first trip to the ER, her response, " Just pay your bill....NOW" I will be on deaths door before I go there!

Swashbuckling, sanctimonious AG Swanson colliding with Cloutmeister 9.5. The AG will roll on- it would be political suicide in the Twin Cities to give in to The Chicago Way. What's hilarious is that Political Animal 9.5 seems to be oblivious to this political reality and majorly miscalculated by sending her that letter.

I would say that if you or a family member is assailed in the hospital by one of these people, call the police and have them removed from the room. Just because a hospital is a fancy building doesn't mean that it operates under its own laws.

Hospitals are running a terrible liability risk for allowing such abusive practices.

We are not to make comments about specific sworn members who still work for the Department. Rahm Emanuel is not a sworn member of the CPD.

We are not to make comments that bring discredit to the Department. Critizing the unethical and possibly illegal conduct of the mayor not only does NOT bring discredit to the Department ... if anything, it ADDS to its credibility, that honorable, upright men and women who believe in right and wrong, who wear the CPD uniform, are not afraid to exercise their First Amendment Right, which is a much higher legal authority than G.O. 09-01-06.

Further, there are many U.S. Supreme Court decisions stating that public employees have "whistleblower" rights, and have every right, if not moral duty, to speak out when they are aware of public corruption. What Rahm Emanuel is doing in this case, putting pressure on the Minnesota A.G. to stop her investigation into the tactics of Accretive Health, is a VERY SERIOUS act of public corruption: using his power and influence, immorally and unethically, to quash a very legitimate criminal investigation, because of his personal ties to Accretive.

Looks like rahmulus is trying to strong arm the minnesota AG to drop its lawsuit against a ayn rand inspired chicago company...hmmmm. Same when the feds stopped tape when rahm was putting some pressure on blago's choice for O'bama's replacement. Republican Wisconsin Senator Ryan, an ayn rand devotee, trying to desolve social security, collective bargaining for workers, wasnt he and his cabal just visited by rahm about a month ago in a closed meeting. People wake up! The middle working class is under attack from both the democrats and republicans, by punks, like ryan, kantor, rahm, cross, madigan, and many more políticos whose pensions are shored up and whom will recieve paid medical on the backs of taxpaying workers. We must hold their feet to the fire. The hell with worrying about gay marriage, illegal immigration, the goverment has been full of shit, NAFTA, has left the borders with no fences, open unmanned parts, where people trickle in with out no problems, the border patrols, whenever they try to do their jobs, are prosecuted and jailed. Start looking at your leaders. Rahm, a do nothing/know nothing, powered by hollywood, northshore monies, used as the aggressive chihuahua to make sure his benefactors get paid, with our money. Obama, a do nothing senator, now POTUS, BushII, a do nothing/know nothing, voted governor/POTUS. Taxpayers, the next 4 generations on the hook for 2 wars, bailouts of banks, savings and loans, we are still paying the first bailout by Bush I, and wallstreet. The use of social security to balance budgets and to payout entitlements to drug addicted/ lazy assholes and their children.Outsourcing, unpayable student loans, because college graduates cant find employment or jobs that pay a sustainable wage. Both republicans and democrats are at fault. We have let políticos ruin our livelihood, because of distractions and our inate prejudices. The economy and the fairness of distribution of wealth should be on the top of the list. I dont want a link card, section 8, wic, ssi, if im not disabled. I want the modest pension i paid into for 22 years. Affordable health care, where i dont have rahm's buddy in the emergency room strong arming me. My property taxes to be fair, not calculated by a ambigous multiplier and not siphoned to some TIF. Where the mayor doesnt have to pay the cities pension contracts, but pay contracts to walsh, heneghan, mchugh, or subsidize billionaire hotel magnates. Seems like their is no distinction between a democrat or republican when it comes to screwing the middleclass over. We created this mess by not voting these assholes out when we have a chance. November can be our chance to finally make government work for ALL of Us. End of rant. G-d bless and stay safe.

Accretive was wooed with tax incentives to relocate their headquarters here several years ago. Mayor Daley partnered them up with one his projects, Chicago Career Tech which was supposed to hook people up with job training and placement. People were told they would be trained as medical coders. Turned out they were trained to be medical billers. They wring out money from insurance companies and Medicaid on behalf of their clients, the hospitals and medical service providers. They have other areas of business that optimizes collections, but very little contact with actual patients.

They are still hooked up with Chicago Career Tech and if the business folded, a lot of jobs would be lost.

Accretive Health, Hospital Debt Collector, To Receive Millions In Tax Benefits In Chicago

Under an agreement approved by the City Council last year, Chicago is set to hand over $6 million in tax increment financing to Accretive Health, the hospital debt collector at the center of a growing row between Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson.

An Emanuel spokesman said Tuesday that the city has yet to turn over any of the money pledged under the agreement to Accretive Health. But a vocal critic of the way the city has used such "TIFs" said it was emblematic of the city's lack of transparency on such agreements

000

Accretive Health has also negotiated $1.42 million in tax and job training credits from the state of Illinois.

---
Alderman Scott Waguespack voted for the TIF agreement in May 2011. But he says the city should be allowed to take developments like the news that Accretive is under investigation by Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson into account when it comes to dispersing the funds. He also says he was not aware of the company's practices -- which allegedly include stationing bill collectors at patients' bedsides -- until recent publicity about Swanson's lawsuit against the company.

"Unless you have time to dig into it yourself, it doesn't come out," Waguespack said.

For those that don't get it the very people who are telling the truth about things like this are being attacked .. dismissed .. and made to seem mean when they bring out the truth.. maybe it would be of help to watch/listen to those that the politicians do NOT want you to listen to and gain some insight to what is really going on..

If anyone were connected with a company that intimidates sick people in hospital beds, it'd be a bastard like Emanuel.

He's talking about raising the property tax here by 150%.

No, he's intimidating the citizens of Chicago by terrorizing them with the THREAT of raising taxes 150%. That way, they'll be on his side and want to decimate our pensions.

"[Accretive has] other areas of business that optimizes collections, but very little contact with actual patients."

05/09/2012 01:01:00 PM

"On April 24, 2012, the Minnesota AG released a six-volume report detailing Accretive Health's aggressive debt collection practices, including demanding payment from patients who were currently seeking medical care in hospitals. The next day, an article published by The New York Times discussed the Minnesota AG's report. On these revelations, Accretive Health shares declined $7.74 per share or nearly 42%, to close at $10.75 per share on April 25, 2012."

The story about the ill relative going to Resurrection Hospital and being intimidated by fucking uncaring Zombie insurance collector really pissed me off. I would have thrown that insensitive Biatch right out of the ER. But this is what is going on today. Even if you owe any of these greedy bastards a dollar they come after you like crazy. And right in the middle of all this corrupt shit we find the Racoon. Speaks volumes doesn't it.

Minnesota is a liberal state that actually tries to enforce the law. Rahm is trying to impede Minnesota. We will not tolerate that. He may be king in shitcago, but not up here.

Six Volumes of digging by AG Swanson. Rahm must be worried the real people in Minnesoota will dig up something on his friends at Accretive.

Huh?

That's OK, just make it up as you go along.

Pecks like a chicken, and has about the same brain capacity.

A chicken's not malicious, though.

"Atta boy Rahm...go count your $18M so legitimately earned from Wasserstein Perella & Company."

--5/09/2012 07:28:00 PM

"Emanuel...went on to make more than $18 million in just two-and-a-half years, turning many of his contacts in his substantial political Rolodex into paying clients and directing his negotiating prowess and trademark intensity to mergers and acquisitions. He also benefited from the opportune sale of Wasserstein Perella to a German bank, helping him to an unusually large payout.

"The period before he was elected to a House seat from Illinois is a little-known episode of Mr. Emanuel’s biography...Emanuel built up strong ties with an industry now at the heart of the economic crisis...

"After Mr. Emanuel left banking to run for Congress, members of the securities and investment industry became his biggest backers, donating more than $1.5 million to his campaigns dating back to 2002..."
